Chapter 49: One Set

Chapter 49: One Set

Zhou Ran raised his chin and said, "Go open the door."

Yan Nian stood up with the help of the short phone, walked to the entrance and opened the door.

The first thing that hit me was the strong smell of perfume, followed by a woman's voice: "Happy birthday, baby."

The woman in a black V-neck tight skirt held a cake in her left hand and posed with her right hand against the door frame.

With a soft waist and brightly made-up face, she looks like a little elf that just jumped down from the stage.

Yan Nian had seen this woman before. It was she who appeared at the door of the translation team in the company that day, holding Zhou Ran's hand.

So, of the two people Zhou Ran mentioned, is the other one her?

The woman was surprised to see Yan Nian. She glared at him and immediately stood up straight. She looked past her into the room and asked, "Who are you?"

Zhou Ran appeared behind him, frowned when he saw Song Weiwei, and asked in a cold tone, "How did you find yourself here?"

Yan Nian looked up at him, it seemed not to be the case. She was like an outsider, listening to their conversation blankly.

Song Weiwei held up the cake in her hand and blinked her big eyes as she said, "Happy birthday to you. I went to Zhuyin Garden to look for you, but you weren't there, so I had no choice but to come here."

When she came in, the security guard called Zhou Ran to verify, but she came in so easily.

Song Weiwei tried to squeeze in beside Yan Nian, but Zhou Ran stepped forward and pulled Yan Nian behind him, putting his hand on the door frame: "You are not welcome here, go back."

Song Weiwei's eyes switched between the two of them, and she asked him, "Is this your girlfriend?"

Zhou Ran looked at her coldly, as if he didn't want to say a word.

Song Weiwei spoke quickly: "Why didn't you tell me earlier? You made me waste so much time worrying about this. Okay, I haven't even had a sip of water since I came here. Just let me in, have a drink and leave."

As he said that, he started to pry Zhou Ran's hands apart.

Zhou Ran remained unmoved, looking down at her and saying, "Compared to the benefits you'll get, your efforts are worthless."

Then he continued word by word, "From now on, here in Haiyue, you are blacklisted. Do you understand? Go back."

After saying that, he took advantage of her stunned moment and locked the person outside.

Song Weiwei was turned away and cried outside, "Zhou Ran, you bastard! I'm going to report you for having a girlfriend."

Yan Nian: “…”

Zhou Ran was very angry and automatically blocked her voice. He walked to the sofa, picked up his phone and called the property management.

Yan Nian heard a bang at the door.

Song Weiwei threw the cake at the door and walked away whining.

Zhou Ran questioned the property management in a sullen tone. The other party kept apologizing, so he just hung up.

The property management called again, but he ignored it and just pressed the mute button.

After this little episode, the atmosphere became a little weird.

Yan Nian also became much more sober and realized that it was indeed quite late and it would be inappropriate to stay here any longer.

She walked to the sofa and said to him, "Then I'll leave too."

Zhou Ran looked at her for a few seconds, wanting to explain something. Finally, he handed her a bottle of room-temperature mineral water he had just taken from the table. "Here."

Yan Nian wasn't thirsty right now, and it would be inconvenient to carry it with her when she went out: "No, I'm not thirsty."

Zhou Ran's face darkened suddenly. The woman ruined the atmosphere as soon as she came, and he even refused to drink the water.

He put the water heavily on the table: "Then I'll give it to you."

Yan Nian's shoulders trembled, and she looked up at his dark face. How could she dare to ask him to send her off at this time? She said softly, "No need to send me off."

Zhou Ran just looked at her with his eyelids drooping. Every time he did this, Yan Nian felt that he was harboring some emotions and wanted to verbally attack her.

Yan Nian asked at this time: "If you really want to be worried, you can give me the car keys and I will pick you up for work tomorrow?"

After she finished speaking, she felt a little regretful, thinking that Zhou Ran would ask with disdain, "I am worried about you?"

Then she is really going to die here.

I don't know if he would agree, but I just want to give it a try.

Zhou Ran's brows relaxed, and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

Just send her by car, she doesn't have to go in person.

One set after another.

Yan Nian was a little nervous and subconsciously thought about what he would say next.

"Okay." Zhou Ran smiled, "The key is at the entrance, go get it yourself."

Unexpectedly, Yan Nian breathed a sigh of relief and said with a curved lip, "Okay."

When he turned around, he smiled.

"Wait." Zhou Ran called her.

Yan Nian stopped smiling and turned around: "What's wrong?"

Zhou Ran looked at the trash can on the ground and said, "Take this with you. I'll take you downstairs."

Yan Nian: “…”

Zhou Ran followed her as she changed her shoes. "You're such a directionally challenged person that you can't even find a parking lot. How can you possibly find your car?"

Yan Nian took his car keys and almost kicked the cake thrown by Song Weiwei when he opened the door.

She took the initiative to pick it up and said to the person behind her, "I'll throw it away."

Zhou Ran laughed out loud: "Yeah."

After going to the first floor and throwing the garbage into the garbage room, Yan Nian returned to the elevator.

There was an elevator coming down but he didn't press it and waited for the next one.

However, neither of them remembered to press the button, and they kept waiting for several times. Yan Nian only realized it when the elevator went up.

They waited here foolishly for a long time.

Zhou Ran, who had the same idea as her, reached out to press the button when she raised her hand.

The two hands touched each other accidentally, but no one pressed down and they just pulled back.

Zhou Ran simply put his hands in his pockets, looking relaxed and unconcerned.

Yan Nian raised his hand to press again.

"The car is there." After Zhou Ran took her to find the car, he said nothing and left with a proud look on his face.

Yan Nian thought that no matter what, he would say something like "Be careful" or "Drive slowly, don't damage the car."

As a result, he just left.

Only after his figure disappeared at the entrance of the corridor did Yan Nian unlock the car and get in.

Because her thoughts followed someone into the elevator, she realized her bag was still slung across her right side when she was fastening her seat belt.

I took off my bag and remembered that I hadn't looked at my phone for a long time.

So I took out my phone, and the moment the screen lit up, there were already 16 missed calls stacked on it.

All of them were calls from Xu Yiqing.

Yan Nian's breathing stagnated. He held the phone for a while and clicked to call back.

Xu Yiqing picked up the phone immediately and began to ask, "Where are you?"

Yan Nian sighed softly: "Outside."

There seemed to be a car horn sound coming from Xu Yiqing's direction, so he must be driving.

Xu Yiqing asked, "Why haven't you gone home yet? I heard from my aunt that you went out to play with a little girl."

Yan Nian heard her tone and knew that she hadn't arrived home yet. He breathed a sigh of relief: "Well, I went shopping with her this afternoon. After dinner, we wandered around for a while. Now we are ready to go back."

Xu Yiqing was concentrating on driving: "Oh! I just arrived in the city too, then I'll pick you up."

Yan Nian was upset, but she said calmly, "I've already got a taxi. Please drive safely."

Xu Yiqing hadn't even thought of hanging up yet, her tone a bit helpless and accusing: "Turn on your phone's ringtone, or switch it to vibrate mode. Every time I call you, it's like you're out of service. It's driving me crazy."

Yan Nian didn't respond. Xu Yiqing's voice was particularly abrupt in the quiet carriage. Her heart was beating a little faster and her ears were buzzing.

"If there's nothing else, I'll hang up. My phone is running out of battery." Yan Nian said and hung up the phone directly.

Suddenly it was quiet and she leaned on the steering wheel to cushion the impact.

She has had this symptom for many years and it is the only thing she has difficulty overcoming.

I have tried, but ultimately failed.

She couldn't remember exactly when it started.

As far as she could remember, the home phone seemed to be ringing frequently.

Gradually.

The original voice began to linger in her ears: "Niannian, I have to go out to work and can't be with you every day, but I will miss you often. Can I call you?"

The young girl was still scribbling on the stool with a pen: "Okay."

"See the phone on the table?"

"I see."

"Good boy, when the phone rings, it means Mommy misses you. Remember to answer it, okay?"

"Okay, I'll remember that."

But I don’t know when, the voice on the phone was no longer gentle, but turned into a random check without any bottom line.

I remember the cook often running out of the kitchen and saying, "Yan Nian, your mother's calling. Come and answer it."

She often walked reluctantly to the phone with a Happy English Learning Book in her hand, as if this was the only way to prove that she was working hard every day, and the aunt next to her would praise her so that the person on the phone could hear it.

However, she often heard questions like:

How many words did you memorize today?

Have you finished the math homework assigned this morning?

Have you written in your diary?

Do you practice calligraphy on time?

Finally evolved into:

Where are you?

What are you doing?

Why don’t you go home yet?

Did you secretly go out to play without telling me?

I don't allow you to associate with him. He is a bad person, do you know that?

I will never hurt you.

It's all for your own good, why don't you understand?

In the end, she went from being a flatterer without any bottom line to a rebellious and disobedient person.

No matter how hard you try, you will never reach the required level.

But when she relaxes, she becomes the worst person.

Ever since she got a cell phone, she thought she would be free. She could answer any call she wanted and ignore any call she didn't want.

The opposite happened.

The trivial details of the past have already planted an indelible shadow in my heart.
