Chapter 54: The Argument Collapses

Chapter 54: The Argument Collapses

As long as you have the ability, you can work anywhere.

This was probably the first time Yan Nian heard Xu Yiqing say such imprudent words.

Xu Yiqing has her irrational breakdown moments, but aside from all this, he can be said to be extremely cautious with her.

She was afraid that if she took one wrong step, her life would change drastically.

She was well-behaved and sensible in her childhood, but her grades declined when she entered adolescence. Xu Yiqing took a full three years off to accompany her through junior high school.

During her three years of high school and two years in key classes, she never caused Xu Yiqing much worry.

It was not until he secretly filled out his college application without telling his family that Xu Yiqing began to have frequent breakdowns.

Before joining Boya, Xu Yiqing used his connections to find her many jobs, some of which were unrelated to her major, but only Boya matched her major.

She still remembered what Xu Yiqing had said, "Your father and I carefully selected this job. You don't like dealing with people, so this is just what you want."

Now she is suddenly asked to quit her job and move to the north, which she cannot accept.

Yan Nian asked solemnly, "Can I ask why?"

Xu Yiqing stared at her in confusion.

Yan Nian twisted her fingers nervously: "Why do you have to transfer jobs?"

Xu Yiqing's pupils moved, and fatigue appeared in her eyes. She raised her hand to rub her temples and said in an unquestionable tone, "There's no reason. If you want to work for these two months, you can continue to work. If you don't want to work, you can quit and come back to rest. It's not that Mom can't support you."

After saying that, Xu Yiqing stood up, picked up the water glass on the low table, and took a sip while his thoughts drifted away.

Yan Nian just thought it was ridiculous. Xu Yiqing still liked to control her as always, and it hadn't changed at all.

She looked up at Xu Yiqing and said tentatively, "I don't want to move there."

Xu Yiqing glanced at her and put down the cup heavily: "Then what do you want to do?"

Yan Nian's shoulders trembled, and he said softly, "I don't want to give up my current job halfway."

Xu Yiqing said in an unhappy tone: "You've only been doing this for two months, why are you giving up halfway?"

It seemed as if he looked down on her efforts over the past two months.

Yan Nian was a little confused and said, "But this is work. You said that you should finish what you have started."

She didn't know what offended Xu Yiqing, but he ignored her and said firmly, "You're using my words to pressure me now? You gave up halfway when you chose the school. If you really wanted to do something well, you wouldn't be so disobedient."

Xu Yiqing's words completely negated all her efforts over the years. Yan Nian also collapsed at this moment: "So, I have no decision-making power over myself. Whatever you say is what it is..."

Xu Yiqing interrupted her, "Yes, that's right. Everything I've done for you is for your own good, not to harm you. This includes your studies and your work. I've paid attention to every single one of them. I want you to avoid taking detours. Do you understand?"

Yan Nian said in a bad tone: "But I don't want to be like this. The more you act like this, the more useless I feel."

Xu Yiqing said, "Your greatest use is being obedient. You don't need outsiders to judge you."

Yan Nian simply couldn't communicate with her: "But I have my own thoughts and my own preferences, and you haven't even asked me..."

Xu Yiqing asked sternly, "Can liking someone be eaten? In terms of food, clothing, and daily necessities, how have I not satisfied you?"

Yan Nian said weakly: "You are misinterpreting what I meant. This is not what I meant."

Xu Yiqing: "Is this important?"

Isn’t this important?

Yan Nian counterattacked, "It's very important. From childhood to adulthood, in order to make you smile, I listened to you and guaranteed to do everything you assigned to me to perfection. I just wanted you to be happy, not to be constantly questioned by you."

Xu Yiqing moved closer to her from the middle of the sofa with a look of surprise on his face. The anger in his eyes seemed to drown her. "What's wrong with you tonight? How could you talk to me like that? Mom just wanted you to move in with me, so why did you become like this after returning to Lindu? Who taught you to refute me? Huh?"

Yan Nian avoided Xu Yiqing's sharp gaze and didn't want to continue arguing.

In the end, she had no choice but to compromise.

"Look at me?" Xu Yiqing seemed to have reached the limit of his patience with her avoidance and shouted, "Look at me?"

Yan Nian turned around and faced Xu Yiqing's face, which was about to lose its mind.

The situation seemed to be repeating itself.

Yan Nian's nerves were tense.

Xu Yiqing said with a broken heart, "Why are you becoming more disobedient as you grow older? Huh?"

Yan Nian drooped his shoulders, turned his head and looked away, almost suffocating: "You have never believed in me once."

Xu Yiqing's emotions were about to lose control, and he stared at her intently: "Then teach me how I can trust you."

At this time, there was a noise at the door. It was the sound of Yan Qilin coming back.

Yan Nian looked towards the entrance corridor, his eyes like a pool of stagnant water.

When Xu Yiqing heard the sound of slippers, he took a deep breath, glared at her, stood up, walked towards the bedroom and slammed the door.

Yan Qilin came in and glanced towards the bedroom. Noticing something was wrong with her, he went over and patted her shoulder, then asked in a tired voice, "What's wrong? Did your mother scold you?"

Yan Nian tried her best to suppress the tears that were about to fall, and shook her head absentmindedly: "Dad, please persuade her. I don't want to move away."

Yan Qilin withdrew his hand from her shoulder, sat down in the seat where Xu Yiqing had just sat, took off his glasses and rubbed his worried brows.

Yan Nian's gaze slowly moved towards him.

It seemed that he had no choice.

Nothing you say will change any decision Xu Yiqing has made.

She had begged her father so much back then, but it was of no avail.

His intervention would only make Xu Yiqing even more devastated.

It seemed that by helping her, her father isolated Xu Yiqing.

"I'll go back to my room first. Good night, Dad." Yan Nian picked up her bag, stood up dejectedly and walked into the room.

He gently turned off the light in the living room, leaving the room dim. He walked to the bed with the dim light coming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, slumped down on the floor, curled up his legs, and buried his face in his knees.

She suddenly wanted to hear Zhou Ran's voice.

I want to ask him if he still has rainbows.

Yan Nian softly pulled over the bag she had thrown on the ground and took out her cell phone from it.

Aimlessly browsing the people in the WeChat address book.

She breathed a sigh of relief and clicked on Zhou Ran’s WeChat account, which he hadn’t used for a long time.

I mustered up the courage to edit the text, deleting and reducing it, for fear of seeing a red exclamation mark pop up after sending it out.

[Zhou Ran, do you still have rainbows there? If so, could you share some with me?]

The message was sent successfully, but surprisingly, he didn't delete her from this account.

The Moments is a cold horizontal line. I should have deleted all the updates and abandoned the account long ago.
