Chapter 79: Do Not Offend
Zhou Ran returned home after a social event. As soon as he entered the door, he received a message and picked up his car keys and went out.
The hotel was only two blocks away, and it didn't take long for him to reach the hotel lobby. He took a quick glance and immediately found the person he was looking for. She sat on the sofa in the lounge area, staring at her phone in a dejected manner, like a homeless girl.
"Let's go." He walked over and picked up the bulging backpack she placed beside her. It was quite heavy.
Yan Nian looked up, not expecting him to come so quickly, and stood up to follow him.
Zhou Ran parked his car at the hotel entrance. He put his bag on the back seat and asked, "Why are you checking out now? Did you agree on it?"
Yan Nian replied: "No."
After getting in the car, Yan Nian thought for a moment and said to Zhou Ran, "My mother won't sign, so my father has moved to the dormitory assigned by the school."
Zhou Ran asked: "What's the reason?"
Yan Nian was stunned for a moment, then said calmly, "My father has someone else outside, but he and my mother discussed divorce when I was in high school."
Zhou Ran paused as she was pulling the shift lever. Families like hers were quite common. Many couples waited until their children took the college entrance exams and became adults before getting divorced.
But she didn't expect to encounter it. Zhou Ran frowned and asked, "Then why did it wait until now?"
Yan Nian pinched her fingers and said, "It was because of me. When filling out my college application after the college entrance examination results came out, I lied to them. They actually wanted me to go to Lingyun University of Finance and Economics. Maybe they thought I was rebellious and needed guidance, so they didn't divorce me. I chose a path that they didn't think was promising."
It was the first time Zhou Ran heard her talk about this. He didn't leave in a hurry. Instead, he turned around and watched her pinching her fingers nervously.
Whenever she mentioned her parents, she would always show her uneasiness in these subtle movements.
He remembered Yan Nian saying that her parents didn't like the major she chose.
I originally thought that Yan Nian wanted to expand her horizons in the field she was good at, and the conflict arose because her parents wanted her to try new things, so I didn't think about it in other ways.
At least, it was a good decision for Yan Nian to choose English as her major. At that time, she had already shone brightly and could give directions to foreigners in a fluent foreign language.
I just didn't expect that she would describe the choice she made many years ago in such a terrible way today.
There were less than two weeks left in the holiday that year. Before Yan Nian returned to Lingyun, he promised to invite her to dinner at Cheng Xiao's restaurant to meet his best friend.
As a result, I didn't see him for several days and there was no reply to my messages.
After waiting for two days, I sent him a message: [Sorry, I've returned to Lingyun. I'll come back to play with you next time.]
Zhou Ran always thought that she was a girl who was extremely well-loved by her family. When they first met, the awkwardness, mystery and distance she showed towards him were all due to her good upbringing.
He still had a bit of youthfulness in him and felt that she was a very beautiful person who should not be offended casually.
Now that I know more or less about her family situation, I'm not so sure what this seemingly perfect girl has experienced since she was a child.
What happened when she left without saying goodbye and returned to Lingyun that year?
Zhou Ran reached out and gently held her fingers. It was not appropriate to ask something now.
He said to her gently, "There may be other reasons why they have come this far. It's not just your fault. All choices deserve respect, including yours. Don't define yourself lightly."
"Yeah." Yan Nian was gradually comforted by him. Her eyes trembled slightly as she looked at the man in front of her. The mood that had been suppressed for a day relaxed a lot.
Zhou Ran withdrew his hand and started the car. All along the way, there was only the sound of traffic and no one spoke.
Zhou Ran sent her to the gate of the community, took out a backpack from the back seat and handed it to her: "Go back!"
Yan Nian didn't answer, but half raised her head to look at his smooth jawline.
After that kiss, they no longer needed to control their emotions. Yan Nian was still immersed in the emotion just now. She raised her hands and hugged Zhou Ran's waist tightly, burying her face in his strong chest, listening to his heartbeat.
Zhou Ran was caught off guard by her initiative. He froze for a moment, holding his bag, and said with a hint of amusement, "During your internship, you've taken advantage of everything you should have."
She wanted to take it many years ago.
Yan Nian's soft voice came from his chest: "Why didn't you say you were taking advantage when you kissed me?"
He's learned to strike first. Zhou Ran raised his lips and resisted the urge to shove the man into the car. "You've made a profit, haven't you?"
"..." Yan Nian felt like she was going crazy. She wanted to make this person hers right now. She said in a soft voice, "Zhou Ran, I still want to kiss you."
Yan Nian didn't wait for his reaction after she finished speaking. She loosened her arms around his waist slightly, not daring to look him in the eyes. She stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the lips unscrupulously: "See you tomorrow!"
Zhou Ran shrugged and watched her take the bag.
Just let her run away.
Tsk, he wondered if Yan Nian had had a boyfriend over the years, as she was so good at flirting.
