Chapter 83 Paying the Price
The First People's Hospital of the city.
Yan Nian ran into the inpatient department panting.
Yan Qilin came forward immediately upon seeing her: "Nian Nian."
After not seeing each other for a long time, Yan Qilin's face was full of fatigue, and his eyes hidden behind the glasses were dull and lifeless.
Yan Nian gasped and asked, "What happened to grandma?"
Yan Qilin said helplessly, "Grandma found out about your mother and I getting divorced, and she fainted in a rage. She was brought here just in time, and she's fine now."
Yan Nian stared indifferently at the man in his fifties before him and asked cautiously, "Did you tell her?"
Yan Qilin didn't answer her question, but opened the door of the ward: "Grandma wants to see you, go in and see her!"
Yan Nian didn't ask any more questions. He calmed down his anxious mood and pushed the door open.
This is an independent ward with simple furnishings, including a small wooden low table and a small sofa for two people. The bed is next to the window, and the green curtain is half-drawn, so that the end of the bed can be seen.
Yan Nian walked over and gently lifted the curtain. Yao Lijun was leaning back on the hospital bed, staring at the night outside the window in a daze.
After not seeing her for just a week, the old lady, who was usually full of energy and vitality, looked haggard.
Yan Nian called out softly, "Grandma."
Yao Lijun heard the voice and turned around. After seeing her with her slightly cloudy and dazed eyes, she stretched out her hand and said in a hoarse voice, "Baby is here."
Yan Nian took her hand and sat down beside the bed, and asked softly, "Grandma, are you feeling unwell?"
Yao Lijun closed her eyes and shook her head, as if there was a knot in her chest. She asked weakly, "Such a big thing, why didn't you tell grandma?"
Yan Nian lowered her eyes and said, "Grandma, let them solve their own problems. We won't get involved, okay?"
Yao Lijun was a little emotional, pounding the quilt with one hand: "Half of my body is already buried in the ground. If no one hadn't come to my door, I wouldn't have known how much of a failure I was. I'm ashamed of you and your mother!"
Yan Nian heard something from her words, grabbed Yao Lijun's trembling hand, and comforted her: "Grandma, don't say that about yourself, it's not your fault."
Yao Lijun asked, "Have you been wronged?"
Yan Nian shook her head, not wanting to mention it again: "No, grandma, take good care of yourself. I'll be with you when you're discharged from the hospital, okay?"
Yao Lijun squeezed her hand tightly: "Okay, is your mother okay?"
Yan Nian was silent for a moment: "Well, she is at her uncle's house, don't worry!"
Yao Lijun patted her hands and said, "Okay, that's good. Don't worry, with Grandma here, she won't let anyone take advantage of you. You're the only granddaughter in our Yan family. If they want a divorce, I'll be the first to disagree. I think I'm still young and don't have the capital to waste."
Yan Nian listened with mixed feelings, did not refute her grandmother's words, and stopped talking.
Her intuitive judgment was that grandma didn't know their true situation yet.
After chatting for a while, Yan Nian comforted his grandmother and made her lie down.
Yao Lijun urged her: "Go back quickly, there are doctors watching you. Grandma just wanted to see if you were okay. You're fine now."
Yan Nian: "Grandma, then you have to promise me that you won't be so angry. I'll come and accompany you tomorrow."
Yao Lijun agreed: "Okay."
Yan Nian turned off the overhead light, leaving only the corridor light on, then gently opened the door and went out.
Yan Qilin was still waiting in the aisle outside. When he saw her come out, he immediately grabbed her arm and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
Yan Nian's cold eyes swept over his hand, and Yan Qilin noticed her gaze shifting away and stepped aside.
Yan Nian's eyes were gloomy. She did not answer his question, but said lightly: "Grandma is old."
Just these words made Yan Qilin feel ashamed: "Dad knows, it's my fault for not handling it well."
Yan Nian was furious, but she tried to calm down and asked, "When did she come to see grandma?"
Yan Qilin raised his head and exhaled: "This afternoon."
"What did she say to Grandma?"
Yan Qilin evaded the question, "She came with gifts, but your grandmother kicked her out before she even entered the house."
I'm afraid it's not that simple. Yan Nian chuckled: "Is she so impatient to admit her identity? Or is she getting anxious because she can't move into the new house?"
Yan Qilin frowned.
Yan Nian looked at her father in front of her. It seemed that he was not very happy because of his separation from Xu Yiqing. Instead, he had more white hair than before and his expression was more melancholy.
Yan Nian couldn't understand why.
Before this, she thought that as long as the two of them divorced and lived their own lives, it would be the best outcome, and she didn't want Yan Qilin to do anything for her.
Yan Nian leaned his back against the wall, lowered his head and asked, "Dad, how do you solve this problem?"
Her questions always made Yan Qilin feel awkward. After a long silence, Yan Qilin said, "I will explain everything to Grandma."
Yan Nian's eyes were filled with disappointment, and he asked, "Shouldn't you talk to that woman now?"
Grandma didn't agree with their divorce at all, and explaining it clearly would undoubtedly add fuel to the fire and would only irritate her.
Although Xu Yiqing had a twisted personality, she had never complained a word in front of Yao Lijun, and she only showed strength. She knew that Yao Lijun didn't like her temper, so she would avoid her if possible and would never do such a stupid thing.
Yan Qilin: "I will."
Yan Nian said, "If you feel embarrassed, I will go talk to her."
Yan Qilin hurriedly stopped him and said, "Give me some time. Your Aunt Wen doesn't know that things will turn out like this."
Hearing this, Yan Nian's heart completely sank.
She had been extremely repulsive to that woman from the very beginning, so much so that whenever Yan Qilin showed even the slightest bit of favoritism, she would become furious: "She doesn't know? You don't know either? Dad, are you mistaken? It's grandma who's in the hospital, not her."
The nurse came over and reminded: "This is a hospital, please speak softly."
After being reminded, both of them stopped talking and remained silent.
Yan Nian realized that continuing to indulge that woman would be a punishment for his family.
If she doesn't come to disgust them, she will come to disgust grandma.
"I'll make her pay the price." Yan Nian said this and left without looking back.
"Niannian, don't do anything stupid." Yan Qilin wanted to chase after her, but he was troubled by the people in the ward.
Yan Nian walked to the hospital's open-air parking lot with a restless heart, opened the car door and got in.
When I calmed down, my hands began to tremble uncontrollably. I didn't start the car, but leaned on the steering wheel for a while to relax.
After calming down, I took out my phone from my bag and saw several WeChat messages piled up on the screen.
Zhou Ran sent a voice message directly, his tone urgent: "What happened?"
Zhou Ran: "Are you at Huajiayuan now?"
Zhou Ran: [?]
Yan Nian's hands were still trembling as he replied, "I'm not at Huajiayuan right now. Grandma fainted in the hospital, and I came to see her."
Zhou Ran replied quickly: [How are you doing now?]
Yan Nian: [It's all right now. I'll come find you. We'll talk when we meet.]
Zhou Ran: [Okay, be careful.]
After sending the message, Yan Nian didn't leave in a hurry.
I retrieved a file from my favorites, opened it, found a phone number, and dialed it.
