Smith went up and studied the tractor for a while before starting it. With a mere "thump, thump," the tractor began to move. Because the area was narrow and not a field, the farm machinery couldn't be fully utilized. He couldn't practice every function, so he simplified the operation, observing the lift and the sound, paying attention to the smoke density, and estimating the power, to verify that it was as described in the brochure.
If nothing else, the infinitely variable speed technology alone impressed him. This technology had only recently become available and had yet to be widely adopted. If he could purchase a large number of tractors with similar features at a low price, he could capture the market more quickly. Furthermore, this tractor had a new feature: it could quickly adjust tire pressure. When hauling cargo, the tire pressure could be increased for faster speeds and fuel savings. For ploughing, the tire pressure could be lowered to improve traction and prevent overcompaction.
With this thought, he exited the cab, surveyed the accompanying agricultural implements, nodded, and turned to Zhu Youliang, saying, "Zhu, I'm very interested in your all-purpose agricultural tractor. Actually, he wanted to mention that he wanted to purchase the continuously variable transmission technology directly, as it was applicable to more than just agricultural tractors. Upon hearing this, Zhu Youliang had an idea. He asked if he had any friends in the retail industry who might have some small items. He then had Secretary Zhang take out his large bag and show him the headdress inside. Smith only remarked that the headdress was novel, but clearly wasn't interested. So he called over Vivian, the only woman in his entourage, and asked her to see if she liked any.
