Chapter 42 Respect

Two days later, Zhu Youliang got up early to go to work as usual. It was hot, and it would be cooler if he went out early.

He wasn't the only one there; a few other people could be seen scattered around the fields, some pulling weeds, some applying pesticides, and some herding cattle.

On the way to work, I usually didn't pass by the school. This morning, for some reason, I heard the sound of reading early in the morning. Remembering Liang Yuan's words from yesterday, I turned and headed to school. Zhujiaba belongs to Daqian Village. Because there are so many people with the surname Zhu, it's also called Zhujia Village. The village primary school is built on a small hill at the east end of the village. It was converted from a former land temple. The land temple was originally dilapidated, and although it was later repaired, it still had half of its roof missing. It was covered with reed mats covered with mud, and it leaked when it rained. It was fine when it rained lightly, but when it rained heavily, we had to take a break for fear that the temple would collapse.

As he got closer, Zhu Youliang could clearly see the person standing in the woods. He was a half-grown child. He was wearing a gray cloth vest and half-cut gray cloth trousers. He was barefoot and holding an old book. He was reciting a text aloud as he walked.

Zhu Youliang stepped forward curiously and asked, "Isn't it holiday now?"

The boy put away his books, revealing his yellow teeth. "It's vacation time, and Teacher Sun is giving us extra lessons. My foundation is weak, so I thought I'd come early so I can memorize more lessons."

"So that's how it is. Which team are you from? Why haven't I seen you before?" Zhu Youliang nodded and asked.

"From Team 4. I know you. You are Zhu Laoliu, the one who repaired the tractor and entered the agricultural machinery station. My mother let me continue my studies after hearing about you. I was supposed to go home to work in the first half of the year." The young man looked at Zhu Youliang with gratitude.

Zhu Youliang said with some surprise, "Then you must study hard. By the way, what's your name? Judging from your appearance, you should be in junior high school."

"My name is Wang Can, and everyone calls me Huoshan. I'm in the first grade of junior high school and will be in the second grade in the second half of the year. I missed a lot of classes in the first half of the year, and my mom asked me to come when she heard that Teacher Sun was giving free tutoring to everyone. Even though Teacher Sun only teaches in elementary school, he used to be a big professor and was taught by college students. My mom told me to learn from him," Wang Can said happily.

As we were talking, an old man came up from the small path next to us.

"Teacher Sun, my mother steamed some buns yesterday and asked me to bring one to you." Wang Can smiled at Zhu Youliang, then ran towards the old man with the cloth bag under his armpit.

"Didn't I tell you not to bring me food? Just eat it yourself." The old man said angrily.

"Teacher Sun, my mother said that if you don't want my food, you won't allow me to attend your class. My mother also said that we farmers don't take advantage of others for free, and we don't have the face to listen to you for free, so just keep it." Wang Can said as he stuffed the steamed bun in his hand into the old man's hand.

"Kid, didn't I tell you to eat it yourself? Why don't you just say that I ate it?" Sun Shouyi couldn't help but say.

Wang Can said, "Teacher Sun, you can't teach me to lie."

Sun Shouyi ignored him and continued walking up the mountain angrily.

Zhu Youliang recognized Wang Can as he ran over. Sun Shouyi had taught him before. The original owner was intelligent and initially favored by Sun Shouyi, who often gave him special treatment. Over time, Sun Shouyi discovered that the original owner was too utilitarian and could not help but give him several harsh words of advice. The original owner also had a stubborn temper and believed he was not wrong, gradually distancing himself from Old Man Sun. Seeing this, Old Man Sun felt disheartened, but he still taught him everything he needed to.

Seeing Sun Shouyi coming up, he hurried over to greet him, "Teacher Sun."

Wang Can said from the side: "Teacher Sun, he is Uncle Zhu Liu."

Sun Shouyi didn't even look at Zhu Youliang and walked straight past him.

Wang Can quickly made amends for him, saying, "Although Mr. Sun has a bad temper, he has a good heart and is truly knowledgeable. If he hadn't gone to my house to persuade my mother, I definitely wouldn't have been able to continue my studies."

Zhu Youliang smiled and said, "I know. Teacher Sun also taught me. But I was too young at the time and didn't understand his painstaking efforts. You must study hard and don't make Teacher Sun angry."

Although Sun Shouyi walked over, he listened to the two people talking and snorted softly when he heard what they said.

Wang Can rubbed his hands and said, "I know, I know, it's you that Teacher Sun told my mother about."

Zhu Youliang looked at the old man in front of him with his hands behind his back in some surprise, raised his head to look at the sky, and seeing that it was getting late, he had no choice but to shout to him: "Teacher Sun, I still have to go to work now, I will visit you at your house in the evening." It was said that old man Sun gave up going back to the city and had completely taken root here.

After that, he asked Wang Can to go to school, and he walked quickly towards the town. On the way, he met several people carrying backpacks to make up for their lessons. But he remembered what Sun Shouyi had said to the original owner earlier, and a sense of respect slowly rose in his heart.

As soon as they finished breakfast, Huang Mei sent Zhu Xiangxiang over and called Liang Yuan and Zhu Yourong over, saying that they would all have dinner at the old house today.

Liang Yuan agreed, and went to the old house with Zhu Yourong and the four children.

Before leaving, Zhu Yourong suddenly grabbed Liang Yuan and said, "Yuanyuan, I know you're smart. If I see Yang Guangzhong later, please help me look for him."

If Liang Yuan hadn't married her brother, she would have been very envious. She wouldn't have to do so much work every day, and she could still tie a man down.

Liang Yuan said, "Sister, everyone has different expectations of their partner, so naturally, they see things differently. You can ask yourself what you want. But since you asked, I'll say a few more words. What others think is not important; what matters is how you feel about it. For example, I think when judging a person, the most important thing is character; everything else is secondary. If a person has good character, even if you dislike each other in the future, you can still break up peacefully. Of course, whether you are compatible is also important."
