Chapter 51: Visitors from the City

As soon as Zhu Youliang arrived at the town entrance, he saw his third grandfather, his grandfather's younger brother, driving an ox cart under the shade of a tree. The third grandfather was his grandfather's younger brother, and he would help drive the cart when he had free time.

"Third Uncle," Zhu Youliang called over, opening the cigarettes he'd just bought and handing them over. He didn't smoke, so he'd used Wu Dahai's, and that's why he'd bought a few extra packs. He'd been anticipating the results, so he'd been carrying some money with him whenever he went out, thinking he'd buy a few packs of cigarettes. You couldn't just smile when someone congratulated you.

Zhu Lao San slowly turned around and saw Zhu Youliang. He smiled and said, "Youliang, huh? What's that in your arms?"

Zhu Youliang waited for him to take the cigarette before placing the fan on the oxcart. "This is an electric fan. I previously modified one for the machinery factory, and now that it's finished, they've given me one as a gift." While electric fans were manufactured domestically, the Sanshui County Machinery Factory didn't have its own production line, requiring them to purchase one separately. While he was modifying the fan, he also proposed a modification plan for the existing production line. That's why the machinery factory rewarded him with 700 yuan; if he had simply modified the fan, they wouldn't have given him so much. As for how he knew about the existing production line, it was because of a document from the Agricultural Machinery Station. He had no idea why the document was there; he'd found it in the station's library. Fearing trouble, he didn't mention it to Wu Dahai, but included it in the proposal he presented to Director Liu.

"I knew you were a capable person." Master Zhu San said with a smile.

"Third uncle, you have a keen eye." Zhu Youliang said as he got on the ox cart.

As they were talking, Ergou and a fellow villager came out of the nearby rice mill, each carrying a large bag of rice on their backs. "Youliang, are you going home?" Ergou looked curiously at Zhu Youliang sitting on the ox cart.

Zhu Youliang stood up and asked them to load the rice onto the oxcart. "Well, I got into university, so I quit my job at the agricultural machinery station," Zhu Youliang said as he helped him unload the rice from his back.

"What? You got into college? What college? Why did you quit your job? You can give the job to your elder brother!" Ergou said excitedly.

Third Grandpa even got out of the car, his hands trembling as he said, "Oh my God, my Zhu family finally has a capable person."

"Northwestern Polytechnical University. I'm not a formal employee, so I can't give it to you." Zhu Youliang shook his head.

"If you can't give it to me, then just give it to me. You've become successful now, and it won't be difficult to find a job for your elder brother in the future. Brother, don't forget me when you become rich. We have been brothers since we wore split pants." Ergou nagging.

"And me, and me too! When we had food, we used to go to Houmiao Village and steal peaches," Li Yuan laughed. "It's a pity the ancestral hall is gone. Otherwise, we would have to report such a happy event to our ancestors. It would have brought honor to our family," Third Grandfather added.

Ergou advised him, "Third Grandpa, don't talk about this outside. This year's Qingming Festival is over, but there's still next year."

"Yes, yes, yes." After saying this, Mr. Zhu Sanye looked around carefully. He felt relieved when he didn't see anyone else.

"Let's go home quickly. Maybe everyone doesn't know about this yet. Come on, Youliang, get in the car quickly." Li Yuan said and asked Zhu Youliang to get off.

Zhu Youliang looked at the two large bags of rice on the ox cart, then looked at the old ox, and finally tied the electric fan to the ox cart. He decided to walk back with Li Yuan and Ergou.

When we were almost at Zhujiaba, we saw a red banner from a distance, with a lot of people standing under it.

"Look at the food. What's written on the red scroll? Hey, look, isn't that your wife?" Ergou pointed at the red scroll.

Zhu Youliang took a quick look before saying, "It's too far away to see clearly. Oh, I forgot to tell you that Yuanyuan also got into university."

"What? Your wife has also been admitted to university. The Zhu family is so proud of themselves." Zhu Lao San pulled the rope hard and the ox cart stopped immediately.

"Do you hear the sound of gongs and drums?" Li Yuan said as he looked back. He saw a car on the road behind him, with a tractor behind it. Standing on the tractor was the gong and drum team. "Hey, look."

"Is this some important person coming? He has food. Do you think he is here to congratulate you on getting into university?" Ergou said blankly.

"That's possible." Zhu Youliang said a little confusedly. He always thought that getting into university was a very common thing. When he got into a doctorate before, he just went to a restaurant with Liang Yuan to have a couple of drinks.

Li Yuan said enviously, "When I get home, I'll let my eldest son go to school. There's food. Do you have any secrets to studying?"

Ergou turned around and looked at Zhu Youliang when he heard this. "And me, I have to send my second son to school too. He's quite clever, and he's a bit smart like me."

Third Grandpa also said: "When I get back, I will talk to your brothers and tell them to let those who can study to study. No matter how hard it is, they still have to study."

Zhu Youliang said under great pressure: "There's no secret to studying. It's just like farming, it requires hard work. I do have some study methods I can share. I've also taken a lot of reading notes. If you need them, I can let the kids borrow them."

The three of them nodded in unison: "Okay, okay, when we get back we'll call the children to your house and you can tell them about it."

Soon, the car behind caught up.

Third Grandpa hurriedly drove the oxcart to the side of the road to let the car and tractor pass. As they passed, they noticed two red banners hanging from the tractor as well. None of the three could read the words, so they all looked at Zhu Youliang. Zhu Youliang read, "Warm congratulations to Comrade Zhu Youliang for achieving the eighth-place finish in H Province and the first in the city in the college entrance examination."
