In Zhujiaba, just as Laoliu and his wife left, Huangmei and his wife moved in with their son. When asked by villagers, they said it was to take care of the child. When asked why they didn't take the child to the old house, they said there wasn't enough room. Huangmei got angry, and the matter was over. The happiest person was Zhu Yourong; now that her parents were living there, she didn't have to return to the old house to get married.
But on the night Huang Mei moved in, Zhu Xingtong found the old couple and handed them a passbook.
"Did your father ask you to give it to us?" Huang Mei said as she opened the folder, glanced at the number, and immediately closed it again.
Old Zhu, who was at the back and couldn't see clearly, complained, "Old woman, what are you doing? I haven't seen it yet."
Huang Mei stuffed the banknote into his arms, then lowered her head and asked Zhu Xingtong, "A-Tong, you didn't tell anyone about the money in this passbook, did you? The same goes for Lao Liu. How can you give such an important thing to a child? What if it gets lost?"
Old Zhu said, "Look how scared you are. You can just replace it if you lose it. You don't have the password. Besides, Lao Liu doesn't have much money left..." As he spoke, he was stunned. It was clearly written on the passbook: five hundred yuan.
Zhu Xingtong shook his head and took out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it over. "This is the password. Dad said that we are growing up, so you should not be too frugal. If you run out of money, go to town to get it."
Huang Mei snatched the note away, mumbling, "Tong, if grandma knows about this, she'll definitely not let you and Tongtong down. But don't tell anyone about the passbook, especially the password. Not even Tongtong, understand?"
Zhu Xingtong nodded and went back to his room.
After she left, Huang Mei finally opened the note. The numbers looked familiar; they were Lao Liu and Liang Yuan's birthdays. She glanced at it once and tore it up, not even giving Lao Zhu the birthday. Finally, feeling uneasy, she tossed the note into the stove. Now completely relieved, she returned to the house and began looking for a place to store the passbook.
Old Zhu said on the side: "Don't you think about where this money comes from?"
Huang Mei said matter-of-factly, "Of course it was given by the machinery factory. Old Six only said a few hundred at the time, and I thought it would be two hundred at most. Who knew it would be so much? No wonder they were so generous. Humph, Old Six trusted us, so he gave us the family fortune. You mustn't tell anyone." Then she felt proud again, seeing how promising and thoughtful her son was. Song Hehua still felt that they had been at a disadvantage, not realizing there was such a thing.
The next morning, Huang Mei took Atong and Tongtong to school. Sanya and Siya, too young, didn't go. Because Zhu Youliang and Liang Yuan had donated money to the school, the two children's tuition was waived, but registration was still required. Most importantly, Atong wanted to skip to fifth grade, which required an exam. Huang Mei was confident about this. She felt that since the six children were both intelligent, it made no sense for Atong to be stupid.
Perhaps inspired by the fact that Zhu Youliang and Liang Yuan were admitted to key universities, those who did not care much about their children's education before began to pay attention to it and sent their children to school. Therefore, Daqian Primary School was particularly lively this year.
In addition, the commune allocated additional funds to build two new classrooms. Not only was a new teacher selected from among the educated youth, but two young new teachers were also sent. With five teachers, Daqian Elementary School finally had a proper structure. To ensure the school started in time, the young and old members of Daqian Commune worked tirelessly, building the two rooms in just over a week.
As the principal, Sun Zhengyi was busy early in the morning. He even drafted Wan Fang into the school to help. However, upon hearing that Huang Mei had arrived, he temporarily handed over his responsibilities to the new teacher, Xiao Li, and came over with a few test papers and a list of names.
He first gave the test paper to Zhu Xingtong and asked her to sit at the table next to him to write. Then he handed the list in his hand to Huang Mei.
Huang Mei took a quick look and saw only seventeen or eighteen names written on it. She could barely recognize a few characters, so she only glanced at it and looked at Masayoshi Son with some doubt.
Sun Zhengyi immediately explained that the girls on this list were all sponsored by Liang Yuan and that he and Chen Youguo had carefully selected them. Since Liang Yuan was not around, he let her take a look.
Huang Mei calculated in her mind that the tuition fee of five yuan for half a semester was about right. But she said that she didn't need to look at it, as she and Lao Liu's family all trusted him very much.
Sun Zhengyi nodded and said he had other things to do and left. Not long after he left, the new teacher Xiao Li came over and sat in front of Zhu Xingtong to supervise the exam.
Huang Mei was standing there feeling bored, so she said she was going out for a walk. As soon as she walked out of the principal's office, the parents of the girl sponsored by Liang Yuan recognized her and called their child over to thank her. She said it was her duty, but she was very happy in her heart. When she got outside, parents from the next brigade came to her and asked her how she raised a college student. She was very familiar with this question. She had been asked many times since Zhu Youliang was admitted to the university, so she immediately started talking about it, and soon many parents gathered around her. It was not until Zhu Xingtong came to her after the exam that she stopped talking with some reluctance, and took Zhu Xingtong to find Tongtong. It turned out that Tongtong saw Dunzi as soon as he entered the school. Since they were both in the first grade, Huang Mei asked him to follow Zhu Youtian.
Zhu Xiangxiang was also there. She was in the third grade this year. As soon as she saw Zhu Xingtong, she hurriedly asked, "A-Tong, I heard you're going to the fifth grade?"
"Yeah." Zhu Xingtong nodded.
Huang Mei then remembered that Zhu Xingtong should be taking the exam in the classroom, and hurriedly asked, "Tong, why did you come out so soon? Don't you know how to do it? It's okay, you're the same age as Tong, you can still keep an eye on him."
