With nothing to do in the afternoon, Zhu Youliang and Liang Yuan decided to visit Teacher Sun. They also bought some pens and notebooks for Teacher Sun to give to the girls they were supporting.
Before I even went out, I saw a little girl carrying a large basket of pig feed and walking quickly towards the backyard.
Liang Yuan found this strange and followed her. She walked straight to the pigpen, picked up a rusty kitchen knife, and quickly cut the pig grass in the basket. Then she dumped it all into the pigpen. After calling out to the pigs lying there, she picked up the basket and prepared to leave.
Liang Yuan walked over and asked, "Little girl, where are you from? Why don't I know you?"
The little girl was obviously startled. She slowly turned around and said, "My name is Baicai. I'm from the next bay. I know you. You are the one who sponsored our studies." After that, she bowed to Liang Yuan.
Liang Yuan, who was always eloquent, suddenly felt a little lost for words: "Oh, no, no."
Bai Cai showed his small yellow teeth and said, "Yes, my mother said that if you receive a favor from someone, you should find a way to repay them. Otherwise, it will be disheartening and no one will help you in the future."
Liang Yuan smiled and said, "So you help our family collect grass for the pigs?"
"Well, I'm still young and can't make any money, so I can only help to collect some grass for the pigs." Bai Cai said a little depressed.
"You've done great, and you've helped our boss." Liang Yuan walked over and touched her head.
"Really? But Grandma Huang said that someone in your family was collecting grass for pigs and wouldn't let me help, so I always came here secretly." Bai Cai raised his head and said.
"That's because Grandma Huang feels sorry for you because you're so young."
Bai Cai said proudly, "I'm very strong. I also cut grass for pigs at home every day. I can cut grass for you pigs without affecting my work at home."
"You are such a good child. But what I want to say is that I support your studies because I hope you study hard. If you want to repay me, you can spend the time you spend collecting grass for my family's pigs on studying. When you grow up and have the ability, you can help more children to study. This will be the greatest repayment to me." Liang Yuan said seriously.
Bai Cai was a little confused, but nodded. "My mom said you're a learned person, so what you said must be right. I'll listen to you. I remember everything you said just now."
"Oh, that's great. Come on, as a reward, I'll get you some candy." Liang Yuan took her hand and said.
Hearing about sugar, Bai Cai quickly waved his hands and said, "I don't like sugar."
"It's not good to lie." Liang Yuan said with a deliberately stern face.
Bai Cai could only say weakly, "I like to eat candy."
"That's right. Let me teach you one more thing. You cannot refuse a gift from an elder. Just take it." Liang Yuan said as she led her into the house and grabbed a handful of hard candies from the cupboard and gave them to her.
"Aunt, I don't need so much. I just need one." Bai Cai waved her hands desperately behind her.
"It's okay. Save it and eat it slowly. Auntie has plenty of candy at home." Liang Yuan stuffed the candy directly into her pocket, patted her shoulder and said, "Let's go home."
"Thank you, Auntie." Bai Cai bowed to her again before leaving.
Zhu Youliang, fearing to frighten the little girl, stayed out. After everyone left, he finally came out to ask Liang Yuan what was going on. After Liang Yuan finished, he couldn't help but sigh. People are always vastly different, no matter where they are. There are those who feel they deserve a favor, and there are those who, after receiving a favor, simply want to repay it. But meeting a little girl like Bai Cai is always a joy, even if they don't expect the children to repay them.
When we arrived at Mr. Sun's house, he was plowing the fields in front of his door. He had completely integrated into the countryside and, apart from the glasses on his eyes, he looked like an old farmer.
Liang Yuan said to him, "Teacher Sun, let Youliang do the plowing for you. If the teacher has work to do, the disciple should do the work, so he should do it."
Sun Zhengyi glanced at Zhu Youliang and said, "Why don't you ask him if he can plow the fields?"
Zhu Youliang patted his head and said, "I've never plowed before. Teacher Sun, can you teach me?"
Zhu Youliang handed the things in his hand to Liang Yuan, took off his Liberation shoes, and walked towards the field.
Liang Yuan was carrying her things as she headed towards the courtyard. Wan Fang, having heard the noise, had already come out to greet them. Following her was a little girl, about four or five years old, who must have been her granddaughter. She had fair skin, unlike the other children in the village.
"Aunt Fang, Youliang and I came to see you and Teacher Sun." Liang Yuan said with a smile.
"Thank you for thinking about me," Wan Fang said, patting the child beneath her. "Nian Nian, call me auntie."
"Hello, auntie." Nian Nian said with her head raised.
"Oh, you're so good." Liang Yuan touched her head.
"Remember to bring whatever you brought back when you go back later." Wan Fang said as she walked into the house.
"As the old saying goes, once a teacher, always a father. Teacher Sun has food in our family, so it would be awkward to be polite to him." Liang Yuan said as he followed her into the house.
"You're such a clever talker," Wan Fang said as she poured Liang Yuan a glass of water. "You sit down, I'll go get them to come up. There's no better time to plow the fields than now."
Liang Yuan held her back and said, "Don't worry, it would be good for Youliang to learn how to plow the fields. I just told him that when he gets old he'll go home and farm. He promised me that, but it turns out he can't even plow the fields. Today is a good opportunity for him to learn."
Wan Fang had no choice but to sit down after hearing this. She sat across from her and asked, "Where are A-Tong and Tong-Tong?"
"Let's go out and have fun. Aunt Wan, I bought the gold thread you mentioned last time. Take a look, is it this kind?" Liang Yuan said as he rummaged through the bag and took out a bag of embroidery thread.
Wan Fang took it out and looked at it in the sunlight, nodded and said, "It's this kind. It's hard to buy. When people get old, this is the only thought left. In fact, they can only embroider a few stitches a day. By the way, I embroidered a handkerchief these days. You can use it." Wan Fang said and went into the inner room. When she came out, she had a handkerchief embroidered with a jasmine flower in her hand.
Liang Yuan happily took it and said, "It's really beautiful. Thank you, Aunt Wan."
"What's there to thank me for? As long as you like it." Wan Fang sat down again and said.
As she was speaking, Wan Fang suddenly looked outside the yard.
"Shousheng, why don't you come in?"
Liang Yuan looked over and saw a barefoot boy standing outside the courtyard gate. He was holding a book with a torn cover, a notebook, and a pen.
"Grandma Wan, I'm here to hand in my homework." The boy said as he walked in.
"Let Xiaoyuan show you. Your teacher Sun is plowing the fields." Wan Fang said to Liang Yuan, "You show him. I'll take Nian Nian to the garden to pick some vegetables. We'll have dinner here tonight."
Liang Yuan was about to say that there was no need to bother going home to eat, but Wan Fang said, "If you don't eat here, I won't dare take the food you send me."
Liang Yuan smiled and had to lower her head to take the notebook and pen from Shousheng's hand and began to correct it carefully.
