Chapter 91 Jealousy

Zhu Xingtong returned to school on the weekend afternoon.

Just as she was in the evening study session, the study committee member came over and said that the head teacher asked them to go to the office. There was also a boy in the class who had very good academic performance. The two of them were walking in front, talking and laughing, and she followed behind. She had not made many friends in school since she was in junior high school. She had always been a loner, and she was happy to be alone. It was not for any other reason, but simply because she was impatient to deal with all kinds of little tricks. Maybe they thought she was young and easy to fool. She always had some little tricks, which were harmless but annoying. Because of this, she got the nickname of a nerd. Except when the test results came out, she had almost no presence in the class. Because of this, and because she always occupied the first place, after the suspense was gone, everyone turned their attention to the second place. Despite this, the teachers still liked her very much, almost treating her as a mascot.

Soon, they arrived at the head teacher's office. Seeing them come in, Chen Zhongguo said, "I called you here to tell you that National Day is coming soon, and the county is planning to hold an essay competition with the theme of "Singing the Motherland". Each class can select a few essays to participate in the school competition. You all write good essays, so I plan to focus on tutoring you. Here are a few essay books. Take them back and take a look. Write a first draft for me to see. Of course, I will also talk about this in class later, so don't think that your manuscripts will be accepted. Of course, the best ones will be selected and submitted." After that, he handed each of the essay books on the table a copy.

When the book was handed to Zhu Xingtong, she said directly: "Teacher, you know that my writing skills are just average, so I'd better not participate." She was really not good at writing, and it was basically all about technique and no emotion.

Chen Zhongguo nodded. He had called Zhu Xingtong over simply because her grades were so good, so he naturally thought of her first. But judging by her writing, hers was only above average.

"Okay, you guys go back to the classroom. Huang Ling, you and Zhang Jian can ask me any questions you have." Chen Zhongguo waved at them.

On the way back, she walked behind as usual. Huang Ling and Zhang Jian were discussing the entry point for the composition, because the scope given by the teacher was too broad.

Suddenly, Huang Ling turned around and asked Zhu Xingtong, "A-Tong, are you very strong?" Last weekend, when Zhu Xingtong's parents picked her up at the school gate, she had seen how incredibly strong she was, carrying two adults by herself. Although Zhu Xingtong was young, she was still about 160cm tall, but she was so thin and quiet that they all thought she was "Lin Daiyu."

"It's okay." Zhu Xingtong assessed his own strength.

Zhang Jian couldn't help but say, "You call that average? I can't even take care of my parents at the same time." He is tall and strong, and the class likes to ask him to help with moving heavy things.

Seeing Zhu Xingtong remained silent, Huang Ling assumed she didn't like being told she was strong, since she was a girl after all. So she changed the subject and said, "Tong, why don't you enter the essay competition? It's such a great opportunity! Maybe you could get published in the county newspaper."

"I don't like writing essays." Zhu Xingtong told the truth.

Zhang Jian nodded and said, "I don't like writing essays either, but my mom is a Chinese teacher and has been forcing me to write since I was a kid. I'm almost sick of writing."

Huang Ling said, "You're just pretending. You don't like writing essays, but you can write so well? Your essay scores are always higher than mine."

Zhang Jian said playfully, "You're really good at it. Before I met Atong, I always ranked first in math. Now I can only make a name for myself with my Chinese grades."

Huang Ling nodded: "Yes, Atong is a genius, he deserves to be in the junior class, ordinary people like me are simply far behind him." After the two of them finished talking, they stood by each other.

Zhu Xingtong was not modest and nodded, saying, "I'm sorry for the trouble."

Huang Ling smiled bitterly and said, "It's really difficult for us. You don't know how much we envy you. We wish we had books in our hands all the time, but you don't even take notes, yet you still crush us."

Zhang Jian also complained bitterly, "I used to think I was smart, but after meeting you, I realized there are always people better than you."

"Alas, there is no comparison." Huang Ling said again.

Zhu Xingtong comforted them, "Just get used to it. When you go to college, you'll be able to escape my clutches."

Zhang Jian chuckled when he heard that. "Maybe I'm a bit masochistic, but I actually want to go to the same university as you. It must be really cool to see other talented people being dethroned by you."

"Hey, Atong, I think you are easy to talk to?" Huang Ling suddenly said.

Zhu Xingtong nodded without saying anything, because they had arrived at the teaching building and everyone else was studying in the classroom.

When she entered Class 11 and found a seat, Yao Xin, who was sitting next to her, said, "Why are you back so soon? Didn't the teacher give you some special lessons?"

"Do you think I need special treatment?" Zhu Xingtong looked at her in surprise.

"Who knows? You don't know. They all say that you don't study hard on the surface, but I don't know how hard you study behind the scenes." Yao Xin had an expression that said I know everything.

"Oh." Zhu Xingtong nodded.

Seeing her lack of reaction, Yao Xin couldn't help but speak out her true feelings, "They all think you're just pretending, that's why they don't want to play with you. Look at you, you don't have any friends in class, how pathetic! So what if you're a good student?"

"It's fine if thinking this way can bring you some comfort." Zhu Xingtong said indifferently.

"Do you think we are jealous of you?" Yao Xin couldn't help asking.

"I don't care." Zhu Xingtong said and turned to look out the window.

Seeing this, Yao Xin said, "You must be terribly upset, right? Why are you pretending? You're just a country bumpkin."

Zhu Xingtong suddenly turned his head, looked at her and said, "That burning feeling of jealousy is really unpleasant, isn't it?"

"I'm not jealous of you." Yao Xin naturally denied it.

Zhu Xingtong smiled and continued to turn his head to look out the window.

When he looked up, he saw Chen Zhongguo coming into the classroom, and then he picked up a book on the table and started reading.

Yao Xin pouted when she saw this, but didn't say anything more. Instead, she turned around and spoke to Liang Yan behind her, "Liang Yan, are you jealous of her? She said we're all jealous of her. She didn't consider that if someone doesn't like her, it might be someone else's problem, but if everyone doesn't want to play with her, it must be her problem."

Before Liang Yan could say anything, her deskmate Li Cheng said, "Are you getting bullied at home again? Why are you bullying your classmates?"

"What did you say? Which eye of yours saw me bullying her? I'm fine at home. Why did I get upset?" Yao Xin said with a guilty conscience.

"Okay. Xin'er, why are you arguing with him? He is young, so he will think that we are bullying him." Liang Yan advised.

"The teacher is here." Li Cheng said suddenly.

Several people sat down immediately, and the classroom finally returned to silence.
