Gu Nian ran all the way back to the old house, where Gu Xin was waiting for her at the door.
"Sister." Seeing Gu Nian run back, Gu Xin took a few steps forward.
"Hmph! You were quick to slip away with Sister Huihui just now, and now you're waiting for me at the door again?" Gu Nian pretended to be angry.
“My sister used to never let me listen when she talked to Brother Yun Gui,” Gu Xin explained.
"You can't do that anymore. From now on, you have to stay with me all the time when we're out. What if I get kidnapped by bad guys?" Gu Nian now knew the name of the burly man from earlier.
"Okay, hehe." Seeing that she wasn't angry, Gu Xin nodded happily and then reached out to hold Gu Nian's hand.
"Niannian, Yunnan and Guizhou are looking for you again?" As soon as she entered the door, she heard Grandma Gu calling her.
"Mm." Gu Nian nodded.
It seems the whole Gu family knows that this burly guy likes Gu Nian! Luckily, she spoke decisively just now.
"You accepted his things?" Grandma Gu asked, frowning.
"No, no." Gu Nian quickly shook her head. "Grandma, I won't accept things from other people in the future."
"It's good that you know!" Grandma Gu's brows relaxed slightly. "You're a young lady now, it's time to get married. Don't accept too many gifts from boys outside, and if you don't like a boy, don't give him any hope!"
Grandma Gu has never disciplined Gu Nian. She has always felt that this granddaughter is not close to her. In the past few days, seeing the changes in the second branch of the family, she couldn't bear to see her granddaughter being gossiped about because of her greed for small gains.
"Thank you for your guidance, Grandma. I was ignorant before, but I really won't do it again. I'm still young, so please give me more guidance in the future, so I won't go astray," Gu Nian said sincerely.
Grandma Gu looked like she'd seen a ghost.
When did this girl ever say such a long thing to her?
She looked so serious, just like when her second brother used to trick her into giving him money to buy alcohol.
"Your mother has already cut the meat, so go and make your lousy sausages!" Grandma Gu didn't say anything more and turned to go into the big house.
"Sister, so you don't like Brother Yungui?" Gu Xin asked in surprise after Grandma Gu left.
"Did I actually like him?" Gu Nian was taken aback. Given the original owner's personality, she wouldn't have liked a young man from the village.
"I don't know either. I just think you keep accepting gifts from Brother Yun Gui because you like him and want to marry him!" Gu Xin shook her head and explained.
"You little brat, what do you know about liking or disliking? Let me tell you, I don't have any thoughts about getting married right now. The person I want to marry hasn't appeared yet," Gu Nian said seriously.
"Oh, I know, I know, it's the top scholar brother that my sister mentioned before!" Gu Xin remembered what the family of four had said on the oxcart.
"Pfft!" Gu Hui was standing at the kitchen door with a bowl of water in her hand, and couldn't help but spray the water.
The two sisters looked towards the kitchen doorway.
Gu Hui said, "Gu Nian, you really have ambition!"
Gu Nian grinned and said, "Of course, people need to have goals in life!"
"Then I wish you all the best in achieving your dreams! However, I think your chances would be better if you could change your bad temper," Gu Hui teased.
"Thank you for reminding me, Sister Daya!" Gu Nian said with a smile.
Gu Hui glared at her, then took the bowl and went back inside.
"Sister, have you forgotten? Neither you nor your eldest cousin like people calling you 'Da Ya'. Why do you always call your eldest cousin 'Da Ya Jie'?" Gu Xin whispered a reminder.
"Because my older cousin looks really good when she glares at people! I like to see beautiful people and things!" Gu Nian said.
“Yes, my older cousin looks quite pretty when she glares at people,” Gu Xin agreed.
"Hahaha, let's go make something delicious." Gu Nian laughed heartily.
Gu Hui, who was holding a knife in the kitchen and preparing to cut meat, slashed down and cut directly onto the cutting board.
