Chapter 2685 Strange

The room was simply furnished, with only a bed and a washstand with two basins on it.

Gu Xin went over to take a look. There were bloodstains on the wooden washstand, the basin was upside down, and there were also bloodstains on the bottom of the basin.

Besides that, there was only a square table and four long benches in the room, all of which were stained with blood to varying degrees, including on the windows and walls.

Gu Xin looked at the bloodstains on the ground again. There were obvious drag marks. Then she looked at the original location of the deceased, which was marked with a rope by Lord Xu. It was obvious that the murderer had deliberately moved the body to the bed.

There were two coachmen, one attendant, and one servant, a total of four people. Judging from the position of the rope markings, they were standing close together.

The dormitory is so big, there's plenty of space. Mid-Autumn Festival has passed, it's already September, and Hongyuan Temple is up in the mountains, so it gets very cold at night.

However, there were enough blankets on the bed, so it was impossible for four people to get so close together.

Generally speaking, men sleep in a single bed, unlike young girls who tend to sleep side by side. Of course, it's possible that all four of these men are restless sleepers.

"Lord Xu, have you taken a quick look at where their fatal wounds are?" Gu Xin asked.

"Your Highness, all four of them died from cuts to the neck, bleeding profusely. Apart from a few minor bumps and bruises, there were no other injuries on their bodies," Lord Xu said, then seemed to hesitate, as if he wanted to say something more.

"Lord Xu, please speak frankly." Gu Xin noticed his hesitation, raised an eyebrow, and said.

"Yes, Princess." Lord Xu cupped his hands and said with a troubled expression, "When they came in, all four of them were dead with their eyes wide open. However, two of them were terrified, while the other two were smiling."

"Smiling?" Gu Xin was also a little surprised.

"That's right, they were smiling. The two coachmen's smiles were particularly eerie. But Lord Wang's attendant and servant were terrified. I had their eyes closed, but I don't know if their expressions have changed after a day," Lord Xu said.

"Okay, I understand." Gu Xin nodded.

Gu Xin walked around the room, looking everywhere she could. It was an ordinary room, and apart from bloodstains and the deceased's everyday belongings, there was nothing else she found.

Gu Xin had someone guard the room, and then called Lord Xu to the next room.

The next room was where Wang Pangzi's son Hao Ge'er's wet nurse and three maids lived.

This room was furnished the same as the previous one: a large communal sleeping area, a square table and long benches, plus a washstand.

However, there was no smell of blood in the room; instead, there was a pleasant fragrance. The maids also had more luggage than the servants, suggesting they were carrying some of their master's belongings.

The fragrance is not strong; it's just ordinary incense, light and not pungent at all.

The room was clean and tidy, with the windows slightly ajar. If it weren't for the marks made by Master Xu with rope indicating the dead body, one would never have imagined that a murder had occurred here.

Not all four were lying on the bed; two of them were slumped over the table. Gu Xin looked at the marked rope, wondering what their position was like. Lord Xu then explained, "Your Highness, these are two maids, seemingly taking a nap at the table. When I brought people here, I couldn't tell they were in trouble; I just thought they had passed out."
