Gu Nian looked at Meng Meng's fiancée sitting next to Gu Xin.
Meng Meng's fiancée's surname is Jiang and her given name is Yao. She has a delicate appearance and looks calm and composed. If she were out in the public eye, you would never guess that she came from a bandit's den.
Gu Nian looked at Jiang Yao's hands again. They were quite tender, not rough at all, and very fair, unlike the other four women and the two young girls who looked like they were used to manual labor.
Meng Meng treats his fiancée quite well, actually letting her do nothing. Look at the hands of those two young girls, they're clearly used to doing chores since they were little.
Jiang Yao noticed Gu Nian's scrutiny and frowned somewhat unhappily.
"My name is Gu Xin. What are your names?" Gu Xin asked, looking at the two girls who were about her age.
"Miss Xin, my name is Meng Yan, and Meng Meng is my older brother." One of the round-faced girls greeted Gu Xin with a smile. Her smile was a bit silly, and she looked quite like Meng Meng.
“Miss Xin, my name is Zheng Ling,” said another slightly thinner girl.
“Then I’ll call you Yan Yan and Ling Ling! You can call me Xin Xin! That’s how we address people in my family. This is my older sister Niannian, and the ones outside are my cousins Huihui and Sisi,” Gu Xin said with a smile.
"Okay, Xin Xin!" Meng Yan, like her brother, was quite outgoing and smiled even more warmly at Gu Xin.
Zheng Ling was a little shy and called out "Xin Xin" softly.
"She told you to call her that, so you just did it? Don't you have any manners? You've already been sold by Meng Meng, you've even signed indentures. These are the master's two young ladies, and you have no manners at all!" Jiang Yao scolded.
Her voice wasn't loud, and it was pleasant, but what she said didn't sound very good.
The shy Zheng Ling shrank back slightly.
Meng Yan pouted unhappily and looked at Jiang Yao: "Xin Xin told us to call her that, Sister Jiang Yao. If you don't want to come with us, then just leave! Besides my older brother, who else would want to keep you around!"
The four women were on Meng Yan's side and didn't like Jiang Yao either.
Jiang Yao glared at Meng Yan: "Do you think I want to stay? I just have nowhere else to go!"
Gu Nian: Is this girl brain-dead? She knows she signed a contract of servitude, yet she still dares to yell at her and Xin Xin?
"Alright, alright, all of you, stop arguing! This isn't a village, what kind of behavior is this! Whoever doesn't want to come can leave, and those who want to come should behave themselves." The eldest of the four women spoke up, then looked at Gu Nian, "Miss Nian, please forgive my rudeness. We've only just met, I'm so sorry!"
"It's alright." Gu Nian smiled and shook her head, saying, "I don't know how to address you ladies? Actually, we are just a country family. My father invited you here so that you could grow crops and take care of my estate. There's no need to be so formal."
“My surname is Meng, and I am the aunt of Meng Meng and Meng Yan. The three of them are my sworn sisters. People in the village call us First Aunt, Second Aunt, Third Aunt, and Fourth Aunt. I am the third one, and these are my eldest sister, second sister, and fourth sister! Miss Nian, please call me whatever you like!” Meng San Niang said readily.
“Then let’s shout along with everyone! Third Sister, do you all know kung fu? You all look great!” Gu Nian chatted with the people.
Gu Xin was talking quietly to the two girls she had just met, ignoring Jiang Yao, which infuriated her.
She wanted to lash out, but she was afraid of Meng San Niang and the others, and also a little afraid of Gu Nian, so she held it in, her little face turning red.
