Zheng Qiu bought tea, snacks, and fruits from well-established brands in Beijing, proving she was never stingy when it came to treating guests to meals.
"I heard that Xiao Qiu and our Xin Xin are from the same year. Xiao Qiu, what month were you born?" Gu Hui took a sip of tea and asked after Zheng Qiu sat down.
The other sisters of the Gu family: "..."
As expected of the eldest sister, she skipped the pleasantries and went straight to the point.
“Sister Hui, I was born in the twelfth lunar month, which happens to be the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month. I’m younger than Xin Xin,” Zheng Qiu answered truthfully.
"Oh, I see! You seem much more mature and composed than Xin Xin. Xin Xin is like a child who hasn't grown up," Gu Hui said with a smile.
Gu En was born in October, as were Gu En and Gu Ren from their first wife's family.
Gu En is less than two months older than Zheng Qiu, but Zheng Qiu does seem to be more mature than Gu En.
Gu En is a bit playful in front of her family, but she is quite composed in public. As for Zheng Qiu, she has probably gotten used to it over the years and is consistent inside and out.
"Sister Hui, you're joking. A person's personality is related to their upbringing and experiences. No two leaves are the same, and naturally, no two people are the same. Everyone is different. Just like you, Sister Hui, you must be the most mature among our peers!" Zheng Qiu said frankly.
“Yes, that’s right. A person’s personality is related to their upbringing and experiences. You didn’t meet Xin Xin before she went to the West. If you had, you would have seen an even sillier Gu San Niang,” Gu Hui said with a smile.
"Big sister! Why are you bringing up my shortcomings? I wasn't stupid before, I was naive and didn't think too much!" Gu Xin pretended to be angry.
“Yes, that’s right. If someone says you’re naive and kind, there’s a good chance they’re calling you stupid, or maybe they’re the stupid one.” Gu Hui nodded.
"Big sister, you..." Gu Xin smiled helplessly.
"By the way, Xiao Qiu, you've been a coroner for so many years, do you have any other hobbies besides that?" Gu Nian asked slowly after eating a pastry.
Zheng Qiu understood immediately. It seemed that her analysis last night was correct. These two older women were there to find wives for their brothers, and they were so open about it that she didn't find it offensive at all.
Because of Gu Xin, she probably wouldn't care what the Gu family members said or did.
“Sister Nian, I don’t have many hobbies. When I have free time, besides reading, I cook some delicious food,” Zheng Qiu said.
"What kind of books do you read?" Gu Nian asked again.
“I read everything, as long as I can get into it. Sometimes it’s for studying, sometimes it’s just to kill time. At first, it was purely to kill time, but later I found that it not only kills time, but I can also learn a lot, so reading has become a habit.” Zheng Qiu paused, then explained another hobby, “As for cooking, that’s all because of my godfather. He used to be quite lazy, but from the time I could hold a knife, he made me cook. Over time, I also came to like cooking. I want to try all kinds of flavors, but my favorite is the flavor from Dingzhou, which is quite spicy. Eating it makes me sweat and feel relaxed. Next is sweets. Making some pastries makes me feel much better when I’m feeling down.”
