There weren't many people in Zhoujia Town at night. Most of the shops on the street were closed, except for the taverns where people were drinking and the people who were returning home late from work.
The carriage finally stopped at a riverbank that flows into the Yangtze River on the way from Zhoujia Town to Fucheng.
"Mom! Don't do anything foolish! Uncle Xin is here! Uncle Xin is here!" Jiang Shuyu shouted as soon as she got out of the car.
"Yu'er, Brother Xin, don't come any closer, don't worry about me! I have no face to live in this world anymore! Waaaaah..." A mournful voice rang out.
Lu Zheng patted the goosebumps off his hands.
Is this person really the same age as Aunt Lian?
"If you had no face to live after all this time, you would have jumped off long ago!" Gu Hui said indifferently.
"That's right, I guess she's afraid she'll dirty the river!" Gu Si said.
Lu Zheng turned to look at the eldest sister, and thought, "Well, they really inherited their uncle's genes!"
"Isn't she waiting for my father?" Gu Nian said with a smile.
"Bad woman! Hmph!" Gu Xin rubbed her wrist, her big eyes glaring at the riverbank.
Lu Zheng then looked at the two sisters from the second wife's family.
Second Uncle will surely pass the imperial examination this time and go to the capital soon, so that these four sisters can stir up the waters of the noble ladies' circle in the capital!
“Aunt Lian, let’s get off the car and walk over there. Without the lights on, they won’t be able to see us.” Lu Zheng found a favorable position.
“Yes, bring an oil lamp. It will still need to be lit up later. If I don’t show up, the play will have no soul!” Cai Lian said.
"Brilliant!" Lu Zheng exclaimed in admiration.
So Lu Zheng removed the carriage lights, tied up the horses, and led the way.
He quickly arrived at his spot, a perfect vantage point for watching the show.
Jiang Shuyu's maid carried a lantern, Gu Shouxin walked slowly, while Jiang Shuyu seemed quite anxious.
"His acting is terrible. If you're going to put on a show, you have to do it properly, right?" Cai Lian commented disdainfully.
"Absolutely! Look at that mother and daughter, they're so into their roles!" Gu Nian said.
"Aunt Lian, do you really want Second Uncle to panic and rush over to give her a big hug, then pick her up horizontally?" Lu Zheng joked.
"You brat!" Cai Lian smacked Lu Zheng on the head in annoyance.
"Stop messing around!" Gu Xin kicked Lu Zheng's leg.
Gu Nian: ...Thank goodness, I was thinking of going along with Hu's plan too.
"Brother Xin, you still came! But you shouldn't have come, you know?" Xie Jiaoniang said, clutching her heart.
"I really want to give her a Xizi heartbreak!" Gu Nian said.
"Oh, I shouldn't have come. I'll go back now!" Gu Shouxin said, turning to leave.
Xie Jiaoniang and Jiang Shuyu paused for a moment.
Old ginger is spicier. Xie Jiaoniang realized what was going on and turned to walk into the river: "Yes! Cai Shi is right. I deserve to die. I'm married and Xin Ge still has his eye on me! But from beginning to end, the person I wanted to marry was Xin Ge! You are so unfair. You separated Xin Ge and me. I'd rather be dead than live and be humiliated by someone like Cai Shi!"
"Mother! No! Mother! Don't die! If you're going to die, take me with you! I can't live alone!" Jiang Shuyu said this, but instead of pulling her mother away, she turned to pull Gu Shouxin. She knelt down and pleaded, "Uncle Xin, please, save my mother! My mother always thinks of you! Uncle Xin, please don't be cruel! If it weren't for Grandma Gu, you would have been with my mother long ago. Uncle Xin, I want to be your daughter too! Uncle Xin!"
