Grandma Gu stayed to chat with Grandma Xiao, while Gu Shouxin took his wife and children back home.
When they got into the carriage, Gu Shouxin would hold her hand, and once they were on the carriage, he would help her into the carriage.
Cai Xiaolian felt embarrassed: "Aunt Xiao said it's nothing, don't be so nervous."
Gu Shouxin shook his head: "No, no, I'll help you wherever you go from now on. The people from Qingzhou will arrive in a few days, and I'll get four people to take care of you. Also, what do you want to eat? People say that pregnant women crave sour foods, so I'll send someone to train them for you!"
Cai Xiaolian held Gu Shouxin's hand; this considerate man was rightfully hers!
The two were enjoying their time together, completely forgetting that there were five daughters outside!
Gu Hui said something to the driver, and the driver drove away.
After traveling quite a distance, Cai Xiaolian and Gu Shouxin realized that none of the maids from their household had boarded the carriage yet. They asked the driver and learned that the girls wanted to wander around the city.
Because of Uncle Gu's obsessive-compulsive disorder, the Gu family's daughters were arranged from tallest to shortest. With the sudden addition of Princess Jinghe, who was often with Gu Hui, she stood next to Gu Hui.
She was slightly shorter than Gu Hui. Anyway, the girls couldn't see their own formation; they would only find out when they got home.
"Big sister, aren't we going back together? I want to stay with Mom!" Gu Xin asked.
“Xinxin, there’s no room for us when we go back! Look at Dad, he practically wants to keep Mom safe from bumping into anything. In the next few months, we’ll see a different kind of Lord Gu!” Gu Nian said with a smile.
“Yes, yes! I’ve never seen my second uncle like this before!” Gu Si tilted her head, and couldn’t help but laugh as she thought of Gu Shouxin’s appearance earlier.
“Isn’t that right? That’s why we sisters only go out together in the city every few days. We’ve been here for a month and haven’t gone out together at all!” Princess Jinghe said.
The minority obeys the majority. Although Gu Xin really wanted to go home and stay with her mother, everyone said they wanted to have fun. She also remembered that her father could indeed take good care of her mother, so she went out with them.
Kuncheng has a small population, but it is quite large.
If you want to explore it all, you can't walk around it all in a day.
Grandma Xiao lived in the military dependents' area, which was not far from the county government. The sisters in the area were familiar with each other. In the Peng family's area, besides the Peng family's residence, there was only a restaurant. Because of their relationship with the Peng family, the Gu sisters often went there.
There was one more district that they weren't familiar with, which was the residential area of the people in the southeast district.
The sisters then followed the street next to the county government office toward that district.
As Gu Xin walked, she kept thinking about the location of the public latrine they had decided on on the blueprints.
In this area, near the East-West Avenue, there's a row of shops and a wet market. It's only the second day of the Lunar New Year, and all the shops are closed. The wet market is also deserted, making it look rather quiet.
Further in, you'll find the residential area of Kuncheng.
The houses are all made of wood and look very old.
Walking south from the shop, you see rows of residential areas, with no businesses operating there anymore.
The city wall on the east side was built all the way to the Kun River, so the people didn't dig wells and had to fetch water from the Kun River.
There wasn't much to see in the old houses, and the sisters walked until they reached the banks of the Kun River.
Gu Nian pointed to a unique, independent building not far away: "Hey, isn't that the only brothel in Kuncheng called Jieyou Pavilion?"
