At the Gu family's place, Gu Nian stir-fried a plate of pickled chili potato slices for lunch, which immediately won over the entire family of four.
"Dad, Mom, this is so delicious! When are we going to plant more? We want to plant more!" Gu Xin loved the pickled pepper potato chips so much that she couldn't wait to ask after finishing her meal.
"Let's go check on the seeds in a bit; we didn't have time to examine them closely yesterday!" Cai Xiaolian said.
Cai Xiaolian was born into a wealthy family in her previous life, and she married into a family of equal social standing. However, her family went bankrupt, and after her divorce, she started her own business from scratch.
She knew absolutely nothing about farming, but she was very confident, since there was a PhD in biology in her family.
Growing potatoes seems like child's play.
"Mom, can we plant some in the vegetable garden first? Things planted in the garden will ripen in three to five days. If we store more, we can eat them for a long, long time! Didn't Young Master Zhou say yesterday that these three things can be stored for a long time?" Gu Xin suggested.
Upon hearing her mention Young Master Zhou, the three time-traveling individuals all glanced at her.
"What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?" Gu Xin was bewildered by the three people's gazes.
"No, no. We just think Xinxin is so smart! She actually thought of that. Okay, we'll plant it in the vegetable garden in a bit." Gu Shouxin shook his head and smiled.
Cai Xiaolian thought to herself: "..."
Does this have anything to do with intelligence?
After lunch, the family of four began selecting seeds.
Gu Xin was particularly enthusiastic. After the seeds were selected, she volunteered to plant them with Gu Nian, leaving her parents to do other things.
Gu Shouxin and Cai Xiaolian did indeed have other things to do.
Gu Shouxin was going upstairs to tidy up, and Cai Xiaolian was going to Gu Nian's room to set up a small laboratory.
Their house was surrounded by earthen walls, with a tiled roof and wooden planks underneath, parallel to the ground.
This created a space between the tiles and the wooden planks for storage. The entrance to this space was outside Cai Xiaolian and Gu Shouxin's room, accessible by a wooden ladder.
Most houses in Sanchakou Village have this kind of house structure.
The mud-walled houses were poorly lit; Gu Nian needed a laboratory, while Gu Shouxin needed a study.
Cai Xiaolian walked around Gu Nian's room for a while and finally decided to give up the idea.
She went outside, walked around, and finally decided to build a room in a corner of Houyanggou as Gu Nian's laboratory.
As for Gu Shouxin's study, there was nothing she could do but make do with it in the main room or somewhere else.
After a busy afternoon, the whole family was exhausted, and the house looked completely different.
The spider webs in the corner were gone, and the kitchen was spotless. Cai Xiaolian had already planned out Gu Nian's laboratory and was just waiting to get some planks from Uncle Gu to build it.
In the evening, after dinner, the four of them sat by the fire to warm themselves and chat.
"Father, Mother, Sister, I planned out my daily routine last night before I went to sleep," Gu Xin said excitedly.
"Oh? Our Xin Xin is so young and already has plans for life? Tell us about it?" The three time travelers looked at Gu Xin.
“Regardless of whether it’s sunny or rainy, I get up at 5 a.m. every morning and practice martial arts for an hour. Then I learn to recognize and write characters with my father for an hour in the morning. I also help my sister. In the afternoon, I go to dig for wild vegetables and gather firewood, and then follow the instructions of my parents and sister. When my mother goes to sell things, she must take me with her! I want to learn how to sell things,” Gu Xin said.
