The screen was put back up, and maids came to clean the room.
Because she was worried about Lu Ni, Lin ate breakfast in the morning and then kept trying to find a way to come to the embassy. She didn't have time to eat lunch. Fortunately, Lu Ni had someone prepare a meal for her.
Lin looked at Lu Ni suspiciously: "They didn't mistreat you at all?"
Lu Ni pouted: "Where wasn't she mistreated? She restricted my freedom! Mom, let me tell you, that Gu Xin is really insidious. It wasn't me who poisoned her in the first place..."
Lu Ni then recounted everything that had happened and what she had said since she arrived there that morning to Madam Lin.
Lin was utterly speechless.
Although she didn't want to admit that her daughter was her own, she had no choice but to acknowledge it; the girl was quite foolish.
They really couldn't beat Gu Xin and Lu Zheng.
Not wanting to discourage her daughter, and with the newly prepared lunch from the kitchen arriving, Mrs. Lin didn't say anything more.
She asked Lu Ni, "Should we invite Prince Tiantian to come eat with us? You probably didn't have a proper lunch because of all the trouble you caused earlier!"
Lu Ni's eyes widened in surprise: "Mother, what are you talking about? Don't you know what he just said about me? He actually invited me to eat with him?"
Ms. Lin: "I don't know! You didn't tell me either."
Lu Ni was startled to realize that she hadn't said anything yet, but how should she say it?
Is it true that Prince Tian Tian said she wasn't her father's biological daughter, but rather her mother's daughter with someone else? Wouldn't her mother be devastated?
How could her mother, who loved her father so much, tolerate such insults?
Lu Ni ultimately didn't say anything, only telling Lin Shi not to worry about Prince Tian Tian, and that the mother and daughter could eat on their own.
“Ni’er, should I go and talk to your brother? There’s nothing much going on here anyway, so I can ask him to send someone back to keep an eye on you. It’s much more convenient at home.” Madam Lin looked like a loving mother.
In the eyes of the yamen runners of the Dali Temple and the minor officials of the Ministry of Rites, this was not a stepmother who poisoned her legitimate son at all!
However, having witnessed the many secrets within the mansions, they knew that these were merely outward appearances, and that if these ladies wished, they could show you any side of the house you wanted.
So the two of them stood calmly by the screen, their eyes and minds focused on their own thoughts.
"Mom, he's not my brother! He's just trying to harm me with Gu Xin. They both knew I wasn't the murderer, so they deliberately found a pretext to lock me up here with Tianji, just to annoy me!" Lu Ni said, frowning.
“Don’t talk nonsense! That’s your brother! And what’s wrong with you, kid? How dare you give Prince Tiantian such a nickname?” Madam Lin said sternly.
"Anyway, I'm right. Oh, Mom, don't worry about it so much. You came to keep me company, not to lecture me. Otherwise, you can just go back!" Lu Ni's patience was terrible; she was spoiled rotten.
"You child, you're such a grown-up, why are you still throwing a tantrum?" Madam Lin was also a little angry.
Why doesn't this girl believe anything I say?
Didn't she used to clamor to marry someone powerful? With Lu Zheng around in Da Zhou, that's probably hopeless. But isn't there someone in this house who isn't from Da Zhou? Someone Lu Zheng can't control.
How can this child be so oblivious?
"Ni'er, can Prince Tiantian understand what we're saying?" Madam Lin asked calmly after pondering for a while.
