Gu En came alone, and soon after, Bai Yi arrived with Du San Niang.
"Oh! Did you dress up specially for today, Bai Yi?" Gu Nian teased, looking at Bai Yi's smart and well-groomed appearance.
It's not that people in white don't look energetic usually, it's just that they look particularly energetic today.
"Second Miss, please stop teasing me. Haven't I always been like this?" The man in white made no attempt to hide his joy, letting it flow freely so that everyone around him could feel it.
He had been following Lu Zheng for several years. Although he initially stayed in the capital, he later had more contact with the Gu siblings. The Gu siblings didn't treat him as a subordinate, but as a brother.
So I sometimes crack jokes.
"White-robed lady, who is this?" Gu Hui looked at Du San Niang with a gaze that was not offensive and asked with a smile.
“Young lady, this is Du San Niang. I met her at the innkeeper’s house when we passed through Qi’an Town on our way back from Taizhou.” The woman in white introduced.
Then he turned to look at Du San Niang and introduced her: "San Niang, this is the eldest daughter of the Gu family, this is the second daughter, you know the third daughter, the fifth daughter, Miss Xue'er, and the sixth young master, Princess Mingyue of the Goddess Kingdom!"
The white-robed man's voice was gentle; when had the Gu siblings ever heard him speak in such a tender tone?
Du San Niang greeted the guests with grace and poise, then introduced herself: "Ladies, Mr. Gu Liu, I am Du Ying, the third child in my family. You can call me Du San Niang. I used to run an inn in Qi'an Town, and now I plan to come to the capital to develop my career. I hope you will take good care of me in the future."
Gu Hui asked, "Is Boss Du planning to continue running the inn in the capital?"
Du Sanniang shook her head: "To be honest, I don't plan to open the inn anymore. After all, someone is managing the Qi'an Inn. I mentioned to the Third Miss that I wanted to open a flower shop. The Third Miss also said that your father, the Marquis of Shannong, could provide me with flowers, and that Madam Gu could reserve a shop for me in the commercial street. After finishing up the inn business, I went back to my parents' home and then rushed over. I was just afraid that if I was too late, the shop would be gone."
Towards the end, Du San Niang's tone became somewhat joking.
The atmosphere immediately became more harmonious.
The cook from the kitchen came over and said that everything was ready, so Zheng Qiu asked everyone to sit and chat in the living room while she went to the kitchen to get busy.
Gu En, Gu Ren, and Xiao Mingyue went along with them.
"Brother Renren, do you know how to start a fire?" Xiaomingyue couldn't help but ask as she watched Gu Ren run to the stove.
She had known Gu Ren since she was a child, and had never seen him light a fire.
"Of course. Mingyue, let me tell you, if I had been born a decade or two earlier, Huo Junhao wouldn't have been hailed as a child prodigy," Gu Ren said proudly.
They even insisted on kicking Du San Niang's cook aside.
Neither of the two cooks dared to leave; they stood by and watched the two children.
Gu En also advised, "Brothers, don't mind them. My younger brother was able to climb onto the woodpile to sleep when he was only one year old. He loves playing with fire."
Little Mingyue's eyes lit up, and she immediately asked, "Fourth Brother, why does Brother Renren climb onto the woodpile to sleep? Isn't he able to walk when he's only one year old? Why does he still need to climb?"
Gu Ren pulled Xiao Mingyue's little hand and sat her down: "Don't pay attention to him, he's talking nonsense. I wasn't going to sleep, I was going to my second uncle's house to play with my second and third sisters."
