At the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion, Lu Zheng was listening to his subordinates talk about the post station.
The post station was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Rites. He was not a member of the Ministry of Rites, nor did he have military power like Xue Qianyu, so he did not know about it immediately.
His men knew, but they felt there was no need to say it immediately, since it was almost time for him to wake up.
After listening to this, Lu Zheng ate something and prepared to head towards the post station, but then He Gang arrived with his men.
"This humble servant greets General Lu!" The two met at the gate, and He Gang bowed.
"He Gang, shouldn't you be at the South City Inn? Is Xin Xin looking for me?" Lu Zheng asked.
"Reporting to the General, the Third Miss has sent me to the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion to take the suspect, the Fourth Miss Lu, to the post station," He Gang replied.
He didn't dare say that the Third Miss hadn't asked me to look for you too, so he could only state his purpose directly.
Lu Zheng didn't think he was being presumptuous at all. He turned around and instructed the gatekeeper to take He Gang and the others to find Lu Ni.
He went to the palace first.
He wasn't worried that He Gang and He Qiang wouldn't be able to take Lu Ni away. Now, his family was basically no longer on the side of the Lin family, and his father would never protect his children in this kind of situation.
"Oh dear, Lu Er, you've arrived! Come quickly, come quickly, tell me what's going on." Upon hearing the report that Lu Zheng had arrived, the emperor ordered Eunuch Fu to bring him in.
During the three-day competition, the emperor gave all his ministers a holiday, exempting them from the morning court session. So he didn't get up as early as usual today, waiting to see how everyone's intelligence would be tested. But before he could even have breakfast, he heard that something had happened at the post station: the princess of the Southern Lin Kingdom had died.
The emperor was so angry that he ate three fewer crystal dumplings than usual, and then went to the imperial study in a depressed mood.
Sure enough, a group of ministers were waiting outside, and when they heard that Lu Zheng was there, the emperor immediately summoned him in.
He had no desire to listen to the nonsense of those old ministers.
"Your subject Lu Zheng pays his respects to Your Majesty!" Lu Zheng bowed respectfully.
"No need for formalities!" After the emperor and his entourage finished their greetings, they asked, "What's the situation at the South City Post Station? And why is Princess Nanlin gone?"
"Your Majesty, I only learned of this matter when I woke up this morning. Lord Gu and Princess Xinxin have already gone to the post station in the south of the city. When I went out, I happened to run into the yamen runners from the Dali Temple who came to my house to take away the suspect. I have not yet gone to the post station; I went to the palace first," Lu Zheng said truthfully.
"What?" The emperor's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets in shock. He quickly composed himself. "Ahem, no, um, why are the people from the Dali Temple arresting a suspect at the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion? Who is this suspect?"
The emperor mentally reviewed the members of the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion. Although this family wasn't exactly good people, they couldn't possibly be connected to Princess Nanlin, could they? And they were even suspects.
"Your Majesty, the officials from the Court of Judicial Review arrested Lu Si and Lu Ni. I have not yet inquired about the specifics. The Minister of Rites should be aware of this," Lu Zheng said.
"Look at you, they're practically at your doorstep, about to arrest your sister, and you don't even bother to ask what's going on?" the emperor said with obvious disgust. Then, without waiting for Lu Zheng's reply, he ordered Eunuch Fu, "Go, summon the Minister of Rites and the Chief Justice of the Court of Judicial Review to me."
Eunuch Fu instructed one of his eunuchs to summon the Minister of Rites and Lord Qin.
The two men entered together, and after paying their respects, the emperor immediately asked them to explain their situation.
Lord Qin knows more, so he will speak.
