Lord Xu was talking to the abbot when he saw his attendant bring in a familiar-looking person. He looked over and the more he looked, the more familiar the person seemed.
"Uncle Xu, Abbot, where is my father?" Fatty Wang asked as he approached.
"Is it for defending the city?" Lord Xu asked in surprise.
Just a couple of days ago, I heard Lord Wang bragging about his fat son. Or rather, for the past two months, Lord Wang has been showing off his son all the time, just like he used to scold him all the time.
This led to everyone in the Tongzhou government office knowing that Lord Wang's fat son had met Princess Xinxin and General Lu in Taizhou Prefecture and was now working with them—something many people could only dream of!
Two days ago, Lord Wang told Lord Xu that his chubby son was coming back. He said that he would take his family to Hongyuan Temple to offer incense on his day off to thank the Bodhisattva for blessing his good son so that he would finally find the right path and stop wasting his life.
Looking at it this way, just from his appearance, Lord Xu felt that Lord Wang should show off. He was a handsome young man, especially with his serious demeanor now.
“It’s me, Uncle Xu. I heard that Grandmother, Father, and Mother brought Qing’er and her child to Hongyuan Temple, so I came to pick them up,” Fatty Wang said.
Lord Xu was taken aback.
"Amitabha Buddha," the abbot said, pressing his palms together.
"Are they inside?" Fatty Wang didn't dare look into the courtyard, only at Lord Xu and the Abbot.
"Yes." Lord Xu nodded heavily and said, "Go in and take a look, but don't touch anything inside. This case is not simple."
"Oh, then I'll go in first." Fatty Wang's brain automatically ignored what Master Xu said next.
"Sigh!" Looking at Fatty Wang's retreating figure, Master Xu shook his head and sighed, "Master, look at this child..."
“Young Master Wang is destined to have a benefactor, and he will be able to pull through,” the abbot said.
Lord Xu didn't say anything more. After thinking for a moment, he went inside as well.
The yamen runners guarding the courtyard had already heard the conversation outside. Since they were all from the yamen, and Lord Xu was calling out to the city guard, saying "Your father," then this must be Lord Wang's son. So, no one stopped them.
When Fatty Wang arrived at the main room in the courtyard, he could see from afar that several platforms had been set up inside, each covered with a white cloth.
His steps were heavy, as if filled with lead, as he struggled to walk inside step by step.
The white cloth was still stained with dried blood. Fatty Wang had never felt so powerless before, not even when Bai Er forced him to run around the training ground with sandbags strapped all over his body.
With trembling hands, he lifted the white cloth in the very center.
When he saw Lord Wang's face, Fatty Wang could no longer hold back his tears, and then he lifted the white cloths next to him one by one.
The family of six, except for him, all lay quietly, their facial expressions not peaceful, as if they had experienced something terrible before they died.
Fatty Wang knelt between Lord Wang and Old Madam Wang, wanting to shout, but no sound came out. All the pent-up frustration gathered in his chest, making it hard for him to breathe.
"Grandmother, Father, Mother, Qing'er, Hao'er, I'm back! Wake up! I'm back! Wake up and look at me, please! Don't leave me alone, okay?" Fatty Wang said in a hoarse voice.
