Chapter 655 You Can Do It

Lu Zheng looked at the sky; it was indeed going to rain.

Helpless, he slung his basket over his shoulder, got up, and went back.

He figured if he moved faster, Xin Xin would spend less time venturing into the woods!

After a long day, this is when he is most energetic.

Not only did Gu Xin realize it was going to rain, but Cai Xiaolian did too; the sky was almost instantly covered with dark clouds.

Lu Zheng piled the corn in the warehouse and, without even having time to drink water, came over to call for help.

"Aunt Lian, you and the Meng family women gather up the things drying on the threshing floor. I'll call Huihui and Niannian to go to the fields to move some corn. It looks like it'll start raining again in about half an hour," Lu Zheng said.

“Let’s go together! Let Yiping and Yi’an come and collect the things drying in the courtyard,” said Madam Meng.

"Alright, there's some cutting in that field, so you guys wear straw hats. I'm off now." Lu Zheng carried his basket on his back and went to the field again.

Soon, only Gu Hui and Gu Nian came to the field.

Cai Xiaolian meant that the three women and four maids from the Meng family should help collect the things drying on the threshing floor, and finish quickly so they could go back.

We can still get to the village before the rain gets too heavy.

...

Gu Nian joined in moving the corn, and Gu Hui and Lu Zheng loaded it into baskets and carried it back. They had already carried several baskets.

Soon after, thunder started to rumble, and it was quite loud.

The group quickened their pace.

It started to rain when all the corn had been moved down.

It wasn't the kind of rain that makes a lot of noise but doesn't get much rain; it was a really heavy rain, with huge drops that felt like small pebbles on your hand.

The wind made the surrounding woods whistle and howl.

"Come on, fill this back too, everyone fill it up, we'll carry it all back at once!" Zhang called to the children.

She's an unreliable person, but out of a farmer's nature, she's very attentive to the land.

She'd even tasted this pile of corn; it was delicious. This is for seed, so it can't be ruined by the rain.

The thunder was loud, and the wind was blowing a bit.

Gu Xin's straw hat was blown away, and Gu Si's was blown away too.

Seeing this, Lu Zheng quickly put his straw hat on Gu Xin's head and tied it in a knot at her chin.

Zhang pulled Gu En along in front, her son had never worked in the fields before.

Lu Zheng lifted the large baskets on Gu Hui and Gu Nian's backs again, letting them go first. Gu Si walked behind the two sisters.

Gu Xin, carrying a small bamboo basket, wasn't carrying much weight. She walked ahead of Lu Zheng, but while going down a slope, she stepped on a stone and fell down the embankment beside her.

Lu Zheng grabbed her by the basket on her back and lifted her up.

Lu Zheng reached out to take Gu Xin's hand: "Come on, hold my hand!"

Gu Xin took Lu Zheng's hand and walked carefully behind him.

Thunder continued to rumble in the sky. As darkness fell, the wind blew, bringing a refreshing coolness. The rain poured down, and the dry path quickly turned into a muddy mess.

If it weren't for the corn on his back, Lu Zheng would have loved to put Gu Xin in his own basket and carry her on his back.

His heart skipped a beat when Xin Xin slipped; the ledge next to her was quite high.

Fortunately, once she reached flat ground, Gu Xin didn't slip again.

Even after arriving at the old house, Lu Zheng was still holding Gu Xin's hand. Xin Xin probably didn't think much of it, but he couldn't help but think about it; he was reluctant to let go of those little hands.

After piling the corn into the warehouse, Lu Zheng lifted Gu Xin's basket and emptied the corn out.

Gu Xin looked at Lu Zheng with a happy smile: "Brother Yuanyuan, that was close! If you hadn't pulled me back, I would have been disfigured, hehehe."

Lu Zheng tapped her on the head: "You! You're always disobedient. From now on, if it's going to rain, bring me a raincoat and go home. You need to know that the crops in the fields are not as important as you."

Gu Xin shook her head: "Farmers can feed people, but I can't."

Lu Zheng: "You can do it. Okay, go back and wash up. Your hair got wet, and your shoes are soaked too. Go back and change!"

Gu Xin nodded: "Yuanyuan, you should go too, don't catch a cold!"
