Lu Zheng was practicing his sword in the courtyard. When he came out to talk to Gu Shouxin, he took out a handkerchief to wipe the blade of his sword. While wiping it, he asked, "Second Uncle, doesn't that old man look like he's about to die? But if you look closely, he's quite energetic."
Gu Shouxin: "What? Is it a relative of yours?"
Lu Zheng: "Your relative!"
Gu Shouxin was taken aback and glanced towards the village entrance.
Lu Zheng said, "Second Uncle, Aunt Lian and the others ran into that old man when they brought you back from the county town. They didn't pay any attention to him, but asked me to bring him some water. Coincidentally, I've met that old man before. His surname is Qin. He came looking for relatives."
Gu Shouxin narrowed his eyes and looked at Lu Zheng: "You mean, he's the old man from the Cai family who went there to reunite with their relatives?"
Lu Zheng nodded: "That's right, Second Uncle, don't worry about it anymore, go back quickly! I've already told Gu Nian what I needed to say. That Old Master Qin is staying with my great-uncle, and he's always with someone by his side, so don't worry!"
Gu Shouxin rolled his eyes at him: "I'm not worried. I'm just afraid that if he dies at the entrance of our village, it will affect the feng shui of our village and bring bad luck!"
Lu Zheng: "If I really die, you want me to carry me away?"
Gu Shouxin nodded: "Of course, do you expect me, a scholar, to do such heavy work? Alright, let's go!"
Lu Zheng: ...
...
When he passed by the old house and saw that the lights were off, Gu Shouxin went straight home.
As he walked to the door of the old house, he could hear his wife and daughters laughing and talking inside. It seemed that while he was away, they had planted all the seeds that the Zhou family had brought back. He was truly grateful for their hard work.
He extinguished the torch and leaped directly onto the courtyard wall.
To everyone's surprise, as soon as he stood up, he was pointed at by two bamboo poles.
"Daughter, it's me!" Gu Shouxin never imagined that his daughter would mistake him for a thief, and helplessly raised his hand.
"Oh dear, who is it? It's so late at night, I can't see clearly!" Cai Xiaolian had already heard the voice clearly and was still teasing her.
"Mom, your voice sounds a bit like Dad's! Is it possible that some bad guy has imitated Dad's voice to try and kidnap us?" Gu Xin said with a smile.
“Yes, Xin Xin is getting smarter and smarter. It’s entirely possible!” Gu Nian also said.
Gu Shouxin rubbed his forehead, then jumped over the wall.
"Oh! It really is Dad! Dad, you have to climb over the wall to get home?" Gu Xin ran up to Gu Shouxin with a smile.
“I heard your voices as soon as I got here, so I came in! Xin Xin actually mistook her father for a thief, she deserves a beating!” Gu Shouxin bent two fingers and tapped Gu Xin’s head.
"Father, Mother and sister think so too." Gu Xin rubbed the spot where she had been hit and immediately revealed her accomplices.
"I know!" Gu Shouxin tapped Gu Nian again, then raised his hand to tap Cai Xiaolian.
Cai Xiaolian tilted her head slightly, curled the corners of her mouth, and winked at Gu Shouxin.
Gu Shouxin: ...It feels like you're trying to make me commit a crime!
"Dad, you have to treat them equally! You can't just scold me and my sister. We both listen to Mom." Gu Nian chimed in.
“Yes, Dad! It can’t be unfair!” Gu Xin chimed in.
"Oh, right, I just remembered, I ran into an old man at the village entrance. He looked half-dead. I ignored him and was going to ask Zhou Yuan to check on him, but Zhou Yuan said you guys had encountered him before." Gu Shouxin put his hands down behind his back and then changed the subject.
“Yes, yes! Dad, you also asked Yuanyuan to go see it! We did too!” Gu Xin nodded repeatedly.
Gu Nian: Silly little sister, you got completely distracted by the topic right away.
