Shu Yan finished the bowl of porridge and ate most of the dishes on the table before feeling half full.
She couldn't help but frown, feeling that this shouldn't be happening.
She suddenly looked at her hands, her gaze momentarily blank.
She slowly raised her hand, looking incredulously at the chubby dimples on the back of her hand. These were the kind of dimples that only chubby little children had.
She raised her other hand, and upon closer inspection, were these two fair, plump hands really hers?
Where are her delicate hands?
She couldn't help but pinch her waist, then breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, her waist wasn't as fleshy as her hands, though it was still quite fleshy.
She didn't care that Gu Xin and Dong Xue were beside her; she bent down slightly and pinched the flesh on her leg.
Then the arms, then the face.
She understood.
She's gained weight.
She must have eaten very well over the past ten years. Anyway, what she just ate was the amount she used to eat three meals a day, and she still felt hungry.
Gu Xin and Dong Xue didn't understand what she was doing at first, but now Gu Xin understands a little.
When Fatty Wang talked about his cousin before, he didn't mention her height or weight. The main reason was that when Fatty Wang last saw his cousin, he was not even ten years old, and Shu Yan was probably only eleven or twelve. Now, more than ten years have passed, and Fatty Wang has changed. It's impossible for Shu Yan not to have changed. So Fatty Wang didn't mention her weight, only saying that the silly girl looked like his aunt.
Looking at it now, Gu Xin realized that Shu Yan had noticed she had gained weight.
So she couldn't help but remind her, "Miss Shu, ten years have passed. You've not only gained weight, but you must have grown taller too. I've grown quite a bit taller in the nearly three years since I turned fifteen."
Shu Yan was taken aback, then asked, "Miss Gu, could you please stand up? I want to see if I've grown taller."
Gu Xin agreed, and she stood up as instructed.
Shu Yan also stood up, looked at the height of the door, then at Gu Xin and then at Dong Xue, before walking to Gu Xin's side.
She discovered that she was actually the same height as Miss Gu.
Gu San's height was quite tall compared to other girls she had met; she had actually grown taller.
She said happily, "After I turned twelve, I stopped growing taller, and compared to my cousins, I was really too small. Once, I overheard a distant relative telling my mother that I looked unwell, and that my hands looked like the chicken feet of the chickens on her farm, and that my mother should give me some nourishing food. As a result, my hands became plump and white, and I grew taller. Now my mother definitely won't worry about me anymore..."
She paused at this point.
She forgot that Miss Gu had just told her that her mother had died after she disappeared, depressed and withdrawn.
Gu Xin reached out and took her hand, patting her gently: "Miss Shu, your aunt will be happy. Look, you've grown taller and gained weight over the past ten years. Maybe it's because your aunt is protecting you from the shadows!"
Shu Yan burst into tears.
Although Shu Yan's face was chubby, it looked particularly young. In addition, with a strip of cloth wrapped around her forehead, she looked especially pitiful when she cried.
She had gained weight, but not in a chubby way. She was just the right size, neither too thin nor too fat, and looked like a very energetic and adorable chubby little girl.
