Chapter 209 Habitual

"These are loofahs. We didn't build them a trellis or put up any poles, so they're all on the ground now. And these are green beans and cowpeas too. Hmm, tomatoes, that's right, I'm not mistaken. Wow, there are even strawberries and cabbages! Wow! A big watermelon! Lu Zheng is really something!" Gu Nian shone the oil lamp on each of them, she was overjoyed, and for the first time she felt that this male lead was actually quite useful.

These are all foods she likes to eat; in fact, there's practically nothing she doesn't like to eat.

She had no memory of it, and after asking Cai Xiaolian and Gu Shouxin, she confirmed that there were few vegetables and fruits here, which made her a little depressed!

As a result, someone came to our door.

"Xinxin, come on, have a tomato. This is the sweet and sour tomato that your sister said you can stir-fry with eggs. It's delicious." Gu Nian put the oil lamp on the ground and picked a tomato for Gu Xin.

Gu Xin took it, wiped it on her clothes, and took a bite: "Wow, it's really delicious! But sister, what did you just say about Lu Zheng?"

The trio paused in their movements.

Gu Nian reacted quickly and calmly said, "That's right, this road in Houyangou is really nice! Hehe."

"Oh!" Gu Xin nodded without thinking much about it. Looking at where the oil lamp had been placed, she pointed to the round watermelon with green skin and black stripes and asked, "Sister, is that the sweet watermelon you were talking about?"

"Mmm." Gu Nian nodded.

"Then what's this pretty red thing?" Gu Xin walked over and asked, pointing at the strawberry.

“This grows in the grass, it’s called a strawberry,” Gu Nian said.

"Alright, let's go get the things and take these down!" It's cold outside, and the wind is strong in Houyangou. Gu Shouxin was worried that everyone would catch a cold from the wind.

So the family of four went to get some things to pick these vegetables.

We picked a whole basin of strawberries, a whole basket of cowpeas and green beans, and a whole basket of loofahs and tomatoes.

We left the cabbages and watermelons in the field, but we still picked one watermelon to take back to the house to eat.

It's best not to eat too much watermelon in the dead of winter, as it's a cooling food and eating too much can upset your stomach.

"Niannian, since you recognize these foods, you must know how they're grown, right? I know that beans and melons have seeds, but what are the seeds for cabbage?" Cai Xiaolian had never farmed before and had no idea.

“This vegetable needs to flower, just like rapeseed. We collect the seeds when it flowers,” Gu Nian said.

"I know, I know! Isn't it the same as cabbage? Grandma even taught me how to collect cabbage seeds!" Gu Xin said excitedly, then looked at Cai Xiaolian with a puzzled expression, "Mom, we collected the cabbage seeds in our field together before!"

"Ah? Oh, I was looking at this wrapped-up thing and thought it wouldn't bloom. Oh, so that's how it is. Haha, hehe..." Cai Xiaolian mentally slapped herself. She had been trying to keep her little girl from finding out, but she had actually gotten confused about this.

Gu Xin didn't think much of it and focused on watching the drama unfold.

"Dad, Mom, Xinxin, what should we do with these vegetables and fruits? Should we plant them right away?" Gu Nian asked, changing the subject.

She's now made it a habit to bring Gu Xin along when discussing things.

Gu Xin shook her head and looked at her parents.

“Logically speaking, most crops are planted in spring and harvested in autumn. Our land is a bit different from other lands. Why don’t we plant it like sweet potatoes and corn, and wait until next spring to plant them? We can save these at home to get more seeds,” Gu Shouxin suggested.
