Chapter 89 Inconvenient Places

Thinking about this made Gu Shouxin feel somewhat uneasy.

He did indeed live the life of a peasant in his previous life. In peasant families, after using the outhouse, they would use toilet sticks.

After he entered the palace, he stopped using that thing.

After he became the Grand Master of the Palace, he became even less adept at using cloth, silk, and satin, and sometimes paper.

These are not things that ordinary families can afford; in Sanchakou Village, nobody can afford them.

He looked at Gu Nian with some surprise. Could it be that his eldest daughter could make paper?

Papermaking is no simple task; otherwise, so many people wouldn't be unable to afford to go to school.

Just as he was about to ask, there was a knock on the door.

"They're here so soon?" Gu Shouxin muttered to himself as he got up to open the door.

As it turned out, it wasn't someone from the Zhou family who came, but rather Manager Cheng from the county town's restaurant.

Manager Cheng came in person.

A coachman, a waiter, and Manager Cheng were the three people who came.

Upon hearing that the family was having breakfast, Manager Cheng followed them into the kitchen.

"Oh, it's Manager Cheng! Have you eaten yet?" Cai Xiaolian stood up to greet him, her face bearing the professional smile of a businesswoman.

“I’ve eaten. Madam Cai and the two young ladies, don’t worry about me. You can continue eating. I’ve just brought some milk for Miss Gu!” Manager Cheng said with a smile.

He already knew Cai Xiaolian's surname yesterday, so he stopped calling her "Mrs. Gu".

"Milk, do you have milk? Is it fresh?" Gu Nian asked.

"Yes, they're fresh. There were some calves on the owner's estate, so I took some people to pick them up this morning. I don't know if that'll be enough," said Manager Cheng.

"Manager Cheng, please sit down and have some! My daughter Niannian's cooking is quite good." Gu Shouxin invited Manager Cheng to eat with him.

Unable to refuse such hospitality, even though it was just steamed buns, porridge, and cucumbers, perhaps because of the leftover chili peppers and cake from yesterday, Manager Cheng actually sat down and ate with them.

The steamed buns were filled with radish and pork, and seasoned with ginger, scallions, and other spices, making them very delicious.

Manager Cheng was able to eat three even after having breakfast.

After breakfast, Cai Xiaolian washed the dishes with Gu Xin, while Gu Shouxin and Gu Nian took Manager Cheng to check on the milk.

"You had just left yesterday when the owner came over with his grandsons. The young master and young lady of the grandsons really liked the cake. I was thinking that Miss Gu said it would taste even better with milk added. So, the owner asked me to come over this morning," Manager Cheng explained.

“That’s true. The milk is fresh, and because it’s fresh, it won’t last long, so it has to be made fresh,” Gu Nian said.

"Why don't you make some for us to try, Miss Gu? The owner said that as long as the taste isn't worse than yesterday's, we'll buy them all. Is that convenient?" Manager Cheng asked with a smile.

Gu Nian looked at Gu Shouxin.

"Brother Gu, Miss Gu, I'm going to Zhoujia Town soon. You two can stay here and work. I should be back soon with everything I need to do. I'll take it with me then." Manager Cheng was very sensible; this was someone else's money-making business, and he couldn't just sit there watching it. Besides, he had other things to do anyway.

“Okay! You can pick it up after noon!” Gu Nian nodded.

"That would be great. I won't bother you any longer, farewell!" Manager Cheng said and left.

The father and daughter saw the person off, and as they passed the vegetable garden, Manager Cheng glanced into the garden.
