"Didn't they say when he'll wake up?" Cheng Huaijin asked again.
"No." The maid shook her head.
At this moment, another of Gu Xin's maids came in carrying the medicine.
Cheng Huaijin stepped aside and watched them feed the medicine.
Giving medicine to someone who is unconscious is not easy, and Gu Yingxue seems to have no will to live. Almost half of the spoonful of medicine will leak out. Even if she doesn't sweat at night, I guess I'll have to change her clothes every day.
There were two bowls on the tray, both full.
Seeing that Gu Yingxue's neck was covered in medicine stains, Cheng Huaijin told the maid to go to the side and sat down at the head of the bed, seemingly intending to feed her himself.
"Prince, Miss Xue'er has a wound on her back, please don't touch her," the maid quickly stopped her.
Cheng Huaijin paused. Yes, this girl had taken a knife for him, and it had wounded her back.
“I won’t touch her back. I’ll hold her head, pry open her mouth, and you can feed her. That way, less will leak out,” Cheng Huaijin said.
After speaking, he moved his body a little further in, then carefully lifted Gu Yingxue's head with both hands, supported it with one hand, and turned his body slightly to the side so that the maid could feed him the medicine.
The maid tentatively fed him a spoonful, and sure enough, much less came out than when he was lying flat.
During this time, Gu Yingxue shouted again, waving her hand and knocking the spoon away. Cheng Huaijin then grabbed her hand with his other hand.
Soon, the medicine was finished, and Cheng Huaijin laid Gu Yingxue down.
When I tried to get up, I couldn't pull my hand back.
The two maids acted as if they hadn't seen anything and silently withdrew.
Cheng Huaijin frowned at Gu Yingxue: "Let go."
The pressure on my hand neither lessened nor increased; I simply held on firmly.
Cheng Huaijin used his other hand to pry open Gu Yingxue's hands one finger at a time, and then tried to put Gu Yingxue's hands under the blanket.
He hasn't been gentle since the accident at home; this is the first time he's been so careful, and his forehead is even sweating.
"Sister!" To his surprise, just as he was about to get up and hadn't even had a chance to breathe a sigh of relief, the person on the bed moved again, reaching out as if searching for something.
Cheng Huaijin even thought the girl was faking it; was it really such a coincidence?
He watched quietly as those withered hands waved, and only when he saw the woman on the bed with her brows furrowed did he remember that she was injured because of him.
He reached out and grabbed Gu Yingxue's hand.
Although Gu Yingxue kept calling out "sister" over and over again, she didn't move.
After a while, Gu Yingxue calmed down, her brows relaxed, and her breathing became even, as if she had fallen asleep.
Cheng Huaijin tried to pull his hand away, but it was no use; he had to bend it, so he just let him hold on.
He couldn't help but wonder how he would feel if Gu Yingxue had taken a knife for him that night and died.
Is it really a case of one life for another?
Her sister has too many entanglements with the Gu family.
He and Xiaoyu are twins. He has known his sister very well since childhood. Even after they were separated for a few years, after learning about his sister's life during those years, he knew what his sister was thinking.
Fearing that her adoptive parents would no longer love her, and eager to find her brother, she acted willfully and unintentionally harmed her adoptive mother's unborn child.
She must feel guilty. After going through so much, she met her adopted sister again. She probably wanted to return her sister to her adoptive parents safely.
Her younger sister felt guilty and wanted to die in his place.
