After breakfast, the family went out.
They declined the horse-drawn carriage and instead took the oxcart from the old house to the town. Hearing that the owner of the house was a woman and that they were going to the inner quarters, Grandma Gu tidied herself up and went out with them.

So the Gu family split into two groups: Gu Shouxin took Gu Xin to the study, while Cai Xiaolian took Grandma Gu and Gu Nian to the back of the county government office.
"Is Xin Xin worried that Daddy will go gambling again?" Gu Shouxin asked, holding Gu Xin's little hand, sounding somewhat hurt.
"No, no. I believe Father." Gu Xin quickly shook her head, then gave a big smile and said, "I was just worried that Father would be bored outside by himself, so I'm keeping Father company."
"That's wonderful, Xin Xin! Father is so happy. Don't worry, Xin Xin, with such a good daughter, Father really won't gamble anymore." Gu Shouxin didn't expose Gu Xin's lie, but simply assured her once again.
"Father, it was Xin Xin's fault. I shouldn't have doubted you." Gu Xin lowered her head, suddenly feeling guilty for doubting her father who had improved.
