"You even know this?" Gu Shouxin raised an eyebrow. The young man's skills are impressive!
“Uncle Gu, I happened to go to Sanchakou Village this morning, specifically to look for you. If you hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known I’d already found someone!” Lu Zheng said helplessly, not responding in the direction Gu Shouxin had expected, and recounted the events of the morning.
"Oh?" Gu Shouxin asked, puzzled.
"It's like this, Uncle Gu. My great-uncle has his eye on a piece of land, right behind your house, about an acre. He originally sent his steward to talk to you, Uncle Gu, but I happened to be free, so I went along. But you weren't home, Uncle Gu. So I came to the county to visit, and that's when I ran into you again," Lu Zheng explained.
Although it sounds too coincidental, there was no other way; he had to stay by Xin'er's side.
“Land? As far as I know, there’s only one family with the surname Zhou in Zhoujia Town. If a town is named after this surname, then this family must be short of land?” Gu Shouxin observed Lu Zheng, trying to glean some clues from his expression.
“Uncle Gu, my great-uncle is indeed a good landowner. But he's the kind of person who always consults a sorcerer before doing anything. The sorcerer said that if my great-uncle wants to grow the crops he has in large quantities, he has to do it on the land next to your house. He said it's all about the right time, the right place, and the right people,” Lu Zheng explained.
What he said wasn't wrong. It wasn't a secret that Master Zhou believed in sorcerers; it was just that Lu Zheng had bribed the sorcerer to say those words.
"Do we need to ask a sorcerer where to plant crops?" Gu Shouxin was inevitably surprised, after all, he had never heard of such a thing in the dynasty he lived in.
Lu Zheng nodded and said nothing more.
“I’m sorry, Young Master Zhou, but I can’t make that decision. Although my mother has separated me from my family, the land hasn’t been divided. You’ll still have to discuss this with my parents, Master Zhou,” Gu Shouxin said after thinking for a moment.
"It's also the butler's fault for not clarifying things beforehand. He thought you had separated the family and everything was divided up," Lu Zheng said.
The two chatted for a few more minutes before the waiter started serving the dishes.
Then Cai Xiaolian and her two daughters also returned.
I also brought a plate of stir-fried pickled chili peppers.
"Everything's served, let's eat! Young Master Zhou, try some of the fresh dishes our family has prepared. You're from Yuzhou Prefecture, so you should be able to handle spicy food." After Cai Xiaolian sat down, she started arranging for everyone to eat.
Lu Zheng sniffed; the smell was wonderful, making his mouth water. But looking at the bright red plate, even with the green scallions and white garlic bits as garnish, Lu Zheng felt a little scared.
He can't handle spicy food.
His taste, like his palate, is rather bland.
But then, Lu Zheng saw his Xin'er scoop a spoonful of that chili paste into her bowl and eat it with white rice.
The same applies to the other three members of the Gu family.
Lu Zheng: "..."
Xin'er doesn't eat spicy food.
"Young Master Zhou, please eat! It's really delicious." Cai Xiaolian strongly recommended it when she saw that Lu Zheng wasn't touching the chili peppers.
"Hey, what's this dish? It smells so good! What's it called? None of the dishes the waiter recommended to me are like this!" At this moment, a well-dressed, pot-bellied middle-aged man at the next table couldn't help but ask.
"Oh, this is something we brought from home. We borrowed the kitchen to stir-fry it. We love the taste; it goes really well with rice!" Gu Shouxin swallowed the food in his mouth and then explained.
