When the carriage arrived at the Peng residence, Gu Hui asked the driver, Lao Liu, to call for help to assist Peng Ze.
The old man with the limp at the gatehouse came over.
As a result, Gu Hui helped the old man down, but he lost his balance and swayed. Peng Ze almost fell to the ground. Gu Hui pulled him back, shook her head, and then picked Peng Ze up on her back.
"Sir, please lead the way. Where is his room? I'll take him straight in. He's a bit heavy," Gu Hui said.
The old man didn't recognize Gu Hui at first, thinking she was just a young master from one of the merchants' families.
When the Gu sisters came to the Peng family to wish them a Happy New Year yesterday, they were dressed very well and looked very pretty.
Peng Ze recognized Gu Hui at a glance; she was the girl he had been paying attention to recently.
"Alright, young master, thank you very much! I'm old now, not like I was when I was young. When I was young, I could carry one of Xiao Ze on each side!" The old man chuckled.
The people who worked for the Peng family were all elderly people who had been wounded on the battlefield and could no longer go to the battlefield. They had no children, so the Peng family arranged for them to do some light work to support them in their old age.
Many of them still worked in the manors, shops, and residences of the capital.
Gu Xin and the others didn't go inside; they waited outside.
The old man led Gu Hui all the way to Peng Ze's courtyard. He had a loud voice, and soon everyone in the Peng family knew that Peng Ze was drunk and unconscious, and had been carried back by someone.
Gu Hui entered Peng Ze's room, which was pretty much as she had imagined. The furnishings were simple, and most of the books on the bookshelf were military books, along with some weapons.
She put the person on the bed, clapped her hands, and that was it.
"What's going on?" At this moment, Madam Peng came in, glanced at the drunken Peng Ze, and then looked at Gu Hui. She didn't recognize Gu Hui at first glance.
"This humble servant, Gu Hui, greets General Yin!" Gu Hui immediately adopted the demeanor she displayed in the camp, bowing respectfully to her superior.
Madam Peng: "!"
Gu Hui?
Upon closer inspection, she recognized Gu Hui and her tone softened slightly: "We're not at the camp right now, Huihui, you can just call me Aunt Yin. What's going on between you and Xiaoze?"
Gu Hui readily agreed: "Aunt Yin, today my sisters and I were playing outside when we ran into General Ze, who was on his way to Jieyou Pavilion to arrest the water troops. So we asked him if he wanted to have dinner together, and he said yes. Then, while we were eating, he called for wine. And then we started drinking, and that's how he got into this."
Madam Peng: "...He's drinking alone? And where are you drinking? The restaurant next to the Peng residence hasn't opened recently!"
Gu Hui: "We drank it at Jieyou Pavilion. Ye Zhen, my second sister, and I drank with him."
Madam Peng: "Then he got drunk. What about your second sister and Ye Zhen? How much did they drink?"
Gu Hui: "I forgot how much I drank, but the waiter said their wine cellar was empty. My second sister and Ye Zhen are fine; they're waiting for me in the carriage outside."
Madam Peng wanted to cover her face.
A grown man got drunk drinking with three women, and this is her son, oh my goodness...
Madam Peng sent someone to watch over Peng Ze and personally escorted Gu Hui out.
As they were being escorted to the door, Madam Peng hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped herself.
Gu Hui said quite frankly, "Aunt Yin, please speak your mind. In public, I am your subordinate, and in private, the Peng and Gu families have a good relationship, and I greatly admire Aunt Yin."
Madam Peng smiled: "You're a good girl. I won't say any more. You've drunk so much, it's getting dark, take your sisters home!"
Gu Hui: "Okay, goodbye Aunt Yin!"
