Chapter 51 The Well

Gu Xin followed Gu Shouxin's movements haphazardly, her movements were not standard, but she still broke out in a sweat.

Gu Nian joined in during this time. Gu Shouxin noticed that his eldest daughter's posture was quite standard. Good, with more practice, she wouldn't be easily bullied in the future. As for his younger daughter, she was still young. After practicing for four or five years, she should be able to protect herself.

"You three, come and wash up! You're all sweating. You'll catch a cold if the wind blows!" Cai Xiaolian didn't like to move, so she went to boil some water. Seeing that the group had stopped, she told them to wipe their sweat.

"Xiaolian, Xinxin and I will tidy up the garden and sow the seeds in a little while. You and Niannian can work on making the spicy cabbage and radish you were talking about. Tonight I'll try whipping the egg whites and see if we can take this cake to town to sell tomorrow," Gu Shouxin said after washing his face and hands with hot water.

"Dad, get up early tomorrow morning! Steaming the cake won't take long. I'll get up soon, make breakfast, and once it's steamed, we can take it to town. It's just that walking will take a lot of time. Should we borrow Grandpa and Grandma's oxcart?" Gu Nian asked.

Gu Shouxin thought for a moment, nodded, and said, "Let's borrow it for the next few days. If it sells well, we'll buy one ourselves. It will be more convenient for us to travel in the future."

"Dad, should we buy a cow?" Gu Xin asked, forgetting to wipe her face. "I heard a cow is very expensive. Can we earn money to pay off our debts before buying one?"

“Okay, we’ll buy it after we’ve earned enough money to pay off our debts. We’ll borrow Grandpa and Grandma’s oxcart for the next few days,” Gu Shouxin nodded.

Cai Xiaolian thought to herself: "..."

This is spoiling their daughter way too much!

He clearly had money, but just to put his daughter at ease, he agreed to it?

"Dad, you're so great!" Gu Xin chuckled foolishly.

Breakfast was the radish and pork filling steamed last night, along with a bowl of millet porridge, and a cucumber salad sprinkled with chili.

The millet was brought back by Gu Shouxin last night, along with some red dates, goji berries, and brown sugar, which Gu Nian also added.

After breakfast, Gu Xin went to feed the chickens. She prepared the chicken feed, scooped some water, and then put a jade bead in.

My sister wants to sell cakes, so the chickens at home need to lay more eggs every day.

After feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs from the coop, Gu Xin took a small hoe and worked with Gu Shouxin to tidy up the vegetable garden.

Gu Nian and Cai Xiaolian were washing cabbages and cutting radishes in the kitchen.

With the whole family working together, they got the job done in one morning.

After lunch, Gu Shouxin asked Gu Xin what vegetables she wanted to plant in the field. Their vegetable garden was only half an acre, not very big. Gu Shouxin had just divided the vegetable garden into five plots.

We only had a few kinds of vegetables at home, and in the end we planted radishes, cabbages, cucumbers, pumpkins, and peppers.

The chili peppers are made according to Gu Nian's requirements; even if they produce scrap chili peppers, they can still make money by selling them!

In the afternoon, Gu Shouxin and Gu Xin sowed the seeds, while Gu Nian and Cai Xiaolian put the chopped radishes in the yard to dry.

Gu Xin was hesitating, wondering whether to pour a basin of foot-washing water directly into her heart, or what.

But a basin of foot-washing water can't water the whole vegetable garden!

"Dad, the water tank is empty. Fetch some water from the well!" Cai Xiaolian called out from the kitchen.

Gu Xin's eyes lit up. That's right, a well!
