Chapter 1252 Human Signs Found Again

Gu Xin pointed to a spot: "Bai Er, isn't that a figure? I saw him come out of the cave. Let's go, let's chase after him!"

Now, Bai Er could see clearly that it was indeed a person, but it was quite far away, and the horses in the forest weren't moving very smoothly.

But he didn't argue with Gu Xin. He rode with Gu Xin to the woods, then dismounted and chased after her.

An hour later, Gu Xin and Bai Er got lost in the woods and could no longer see anyone.

Gu Xin tossed a bamboo tube from her small bag to Bai Er.

This was her habit; she would carry two bamboo tubes with her when she went out, and she would fill them with water every night.

Bai Er took the drink, downed it in one gulp, wiped his mouth, and asked, "Third Miss, should we continue the pursuit? The deeper we go into this forest, the more likely that person has already escaped."

Gu Xin finished her water, took a deep breath, and said with some annoyance, "I made a mistake. I should have brought more people. If a few of them had gone around the mountain from the bottom, we might have run into them. When I turned around just now, that person did indeed come out of the cave."

Bai Er looked serious; this was indeed a big deal.

In Kunzhou, Lord Gu has been in office for over a year. Since January of last year, when his manpower gradually increased, he began to systematically send people to search the entire region. Every place inhabited by people was registered.

There was no one around this cave for 500 miles. The Third Sister saw people twice. Where did these people come from, and what was their purpose in being in this cave?

Unable to catch up, Gu Xin and Bai Er could only search for their way back.

The forest was overgrown with weeds, and apart from traces of animal activity, there was no obvious path. They had been chasing someone in the forest for an hour, and now the only way back was to follow the trail they had taken.

Fortunately, Gu Xin was careful and would make a mark every now and then so that she could accurately return to the place where they tied their horses.

Once out of the woods, Gu Xin looked up at the sky. It was almost noon, and the sun was shining brightly.

She looked at the cave again, pursed her lips, and said, "Bai Er, let's go see the cave one more time!"

Although they had thoroughly inspected the cave yesterday and found no danger, Bai Er was still a little uneasy because someone had just come out of it.

If the Third Sister gets hurt anywhere, he'll be in big trouble.

Gu Xin took a small bamboo tube out of her pocket and gave it to Bai Er: "This is an improvement on several of Grandma Xiao's poisons. With it in our hands, we won't be afraid of people or animals. We know exactly what that cave looks like; we stayed in there for so long yesterday."

Seeing that she had made up her mind, Bai Er didn't try to persuade her anymore.

The two placed the small bamboo tubes in the most convenient place for them. Bai Er walked in front with his sword, while Gu Xin walked behind with her dagger.

Since she was only taking Lu Zheng on a trip, all Gu Xin had on her was the dagger strapped to her ankle.

They entered the cave unharmed, but the two of them couldn't put their minds at ease.

The cave is completely different from yesterday.

Besides the water jar, the surrounding area was haphazardly covered with dry grass, or more accurately, wet grass, as if someone had played a prank by soaking the dry grass in the jar and then throwing it around.

Gu Xin thought for a moment and said, "Bai Er, you stay here at the cave entrance. I'll ride back and tell Uncle Peng to send his men over immediately. This scene makes me feel like someone is deliberately trying to hide something. They're in the shadows, while we're in the open. We're outnumbered, so we can't take any risks."
