As soon as Fatty Wang entered the inn, he went straight to the landlady. He had forgotten about Zheng Qiu and was still thinking about what Bai Yi had said about the beautiful landlady.
"Sir, our landlady is taking a nap. Would you like to stay at the inn or have a meal?" The waiter stood up immediately upon hearing someone enter, his spirits instantly lifting.
"Lunch break, huh? That's great." Upon hearing this, Fatty Wang thought, "As long as he's here, that's fine. He can always keep an eye on him." He pointed to the people beside him. "Eight superior rooms. Feed the two horses some good fodder. Also, this young master will be using your kitchen tonight. He'll tell you what he needs in a bit, so you need to prepare it all. Understand?"
Fatty Wang took out a silver ingot.
"Alright, gentlemen, this way please!" The waiter quickly took them and led them upstairs, while another went to fetch the horses to the backyard.
Before leaving, Fatty Wang visited his aunt and uncle and received another sum of money. He was always generous and very happy to have met Gu Xin and the others, so he would never lag behind when it came to spending money.
"Let's skip the food and get some sleep. We can have some wine with Xiao Qiu's specialty dishes in the evening and chat for a while. I think it's quite cool in this inn," Gu Xin suggested.
We all ate something on the way here, so we're not hungry yet and everyone agrees.
The inn was fairly clean. Baiyi said that the landlady was extremely clean and would wash and change all the sheets and blankets after each guest left, regardless of whether it was sunny or rainy.
The proprietress was a divorced woman whose family was very wealthy; they were in the textile business in the Jiangnan region, so she was never short of textiles.
No guest who has ever stayed at her inn has ever complained about its hygiene.
There was only one inn in Qi'an Town, and it was very clean, so even though the landlady had a bad temper, guests usually chose to stay here.
Gu Xin lay on the bed and sniffed. Sure enough, it was different from other inns. The things on the bed smelled of grass and sunshine, so they must have been washed and dried properly.
She fell asleep soon after, and when she woke up again it was already dark.
She opened her eyes and saw Lu Zheng sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at her.
"You're awake, you little sleepyhead." Lu Zheng pinched Gu Xin's nose.
"Hmm, I'm awake. Yuan Yuan, why didn't you wake me up? What are you doing sitting here like an idiot? You didn't even turn on the light." Gu Xin sat up groggily.
"I've only been here a little while. I was worried you hadn't been sleeping well these past few days, so I thought I'd let you sleep a little longer!" Lu Zheng said.
"Xiao Qiu, is dinner ready? I'm starving after this nap." Gu Xin rubbed her stomach, which then rumbled in agreement.
"Alright, we've been waiting for you. I had Dongxue fetch you some water. Get up, wash up, and then we'll go downstairs to eat!" Lu Zheng took Gu Xin's hand, stood up, and then pulled her up as well.
He wrung out the handkerchief for Gu Xin, then wiped her face and hands.
Gu Xin was like a little child, letting him wash her however he wanted.
Then wait for him to comb his hair.
It took them about fifteen minutes to get ready before they went out together and went downstairs.
Hearing the commotion, Fatty Wang had already gone to the kitchen to let Zheng Qiu cook. He was starving and tired of snacks, so he had no interest in looking at the beautiful woman.
The proprietress of Qi'an Inn watched the two people coming down the stairs hand in hand from behind the counter, her eyes filled with amazement.
