However, the emperor frowned. Wasn't this person sent outside by the crown prince to be treated by the Sage of Medicine? How did he end up here and get killed during treatment?
At the emperor's signal, Yin Shuang went over to check the man's breathing and found that there was still a faint breath left.
When the two apprentices saw someone approaching to check on the man, they pretended to be kind and advised, "You'd better stay away from him, lest he try to extort you again!"
The onlookers tried to persuade the group, but the emperor glanced at them, and their voices fell silent, sensing that the emperor's gaze was menacing.
The apprentice was a little guilty, but he still stubbornly scoffed and said that rich people are willing to act like fools these days!
The emperor and his entourage were all dressed in fine clothes, and two of them were carrying swords. This was why the apprentice didn't come over to chase them away. If they were dressed in ordinary clothes, the apprentice would have already shouted and driven them away.
Upon hearing someone call him a fool, the emperor's face immediately darkened!
Who dares to speak to him like that!
Even Chuanwen, that girl, only dared to curse him in her heart!
He's willing to spoil that girl, but he won't spoil these two shifty-eyed people in front of him!
The emperor couldn't easily reveal his identity in public, but Shen Congliang had no such reservations. How could he tolerate someone calling their ruler a fool? He immediately revealed his identity and ordered them imprisoned, accusing them of slandering and mocking important court officials!
He then instructed his attendant to notify the prefect to come and arrest the man!
The apprentice panicked immediately. He knew these people were not to be trifled with, but he didn't expect them to be this bad. He was stunned for a moment.
Seeing that the man was about to be arrested, the onlookers dared not utter a sound, lest they get into trouble.
The emperor was quite troubled. He gave Wei Xiang a look, signaling him to stop the attendant. After all, these two hadn't broken any laws, and they didn't know he was the emperor. He wasn't a tyrant; he couldn't just arrest them like that.
Of course, there had to be a reason to arrest someone. The emperor sent Wei Xiang to summon Tian Wanyin, but he still wanted to save the person on the ground.
However, when she looked back at Shen Congliang, she couldn't help but feel disgusted. Sigh, she would definitely not go out with Shen Congliang next time. He really is all brawn and no brains!
At this moment, a middle-aged man with a black beard came out of the clinic. As soon as he came out, he scolded the two apprentices, "Why are you taking so long to throw someone away! Are you trying to slack off!"
The two apprentices looked at him as if they had found their pillar of support, and hurried over to ask him to mediate. They really didn't mean to curse.
When the man heard that Shen Congliang was a general of the Imperial Guard, he glanced at him. Although he didn't know if it was true or not, he thought that there were many noble people in the capital, so it wasn't impossible to meet the real one.
The middle-aged man glared at the two apprentices, blaming them for causing him trouble. Turning to Shen Congliang, he put on a fawning smile and spoke kindly, his eyes gleaming with shrewdness. They were newcomers; it was best not to offend anyone.
The emperor, however, turned his attention to the unconscious man on the ground and asked him what had happened.
The middle-aged man and the apprentice said almost the same thing: this person insisted on being treated by them, and when their attempts to persuade him failed, he became so angry that he vomited blood and fell unconscious. Not wanting to cause trouble, they simply threw him out.
Under the sunlight, any metal reflects a luster. Suddenly, Yin Shuang's eyes caught a glimpse of something flashing in the person's hair. She parted the hair and saw a silver needle.
The middle-aged man's eyes flashed with panic when he saw this, but he quickly regained his composure and said that the man was probably a little crazy. When he saw that they refused to treat him, he saw the silver needles on the table and took them and stuck them into his head.
The emperor couldn't help but sneer and said, "He's already unconscious, so whatever you say goes."
The middle-aged man's smile faltered, and the emperor continued, "We recognize this man. He was being treated by the successor of the Medical Sage and he doesn't have any madness. I'm curious, though, why would he insist on coming to your newly opened clinic when he was doing well there?"
"The Sage of Medicine?"
The onlookers began to whisper among themselves. The story of the Sage of Medicine performing craniotomy and abdominal surgery to save a life was still told in teahouses, so everyone was familiar with the Sage of Medicine and was even quite curious and excited about his successor.
But the middle-aged man wasn't speechless at all when asked the question. Instead, he laughed, pointed to the plaque of their clinic for everyone to see, and then fixed his gaze on the emperor. "Successor of the Sage of Medicine? This esteemed gentleman should take a good look at my family's plaque. My family is the true successor of the Sage of Medicine!"
Following his finger, the group saw the large characters on the plaque: Tian's Medical Clinic!
The emperor was stunned. He had heard Chuanwen's words before. Apart from his daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Tian Xiliang's other family members had been killed by bandits! Moreover, his granddaughter only had one child, Tian Wanyin, after she married. When did a group of medical sage's successors suddenly appear?!
"Tian's Medical Clinic?"
One of the onlookers read it aloud, and everyone else's eyes lit up.
Another person excitedly said that his older brother had seen many doctors but couldn't get better. A few days ago, he saw that a clinic had opened here, so he decided to give it a try and came to see the doctor. As a result, the young doctor there actually cured him.
"No wonder! So my brother was cured by the successor of the Medical Sage!"
The man sighed, then looked at the middle-aged man with more respect and admiration.
Seeing the emperor's stunned expression, the middle-aged man smiled and asked him amidst the crowd's sighs and praises, "Your Excellency, were you referring to my family as the successor of the Medical Sage you just mentioned? However, my family has never treated your friend."
The emperor's face darkened as his tone became increasingly sarcastic. Shen Congliang was about to jump up and curse the middle-aged man for being an imposter when Chuanwen's inner thoughts were heard.
