The emperor saw the messenger turn back to look for their carriage, and while searching, he scolded them, "[Both of them are so old, what were they doing speeding! Now look what's happened, they've killed someone, they have to pay compensation! Wait! Could they be short of money and want to borrow from me? But I don't have any money either... Sigh, if I'd known, I wouldn't have taken this road...]"
However, after looking around, they couldn't find the two's carriage. Turning back, they saw that the two looked a little stiff. They wondered if they knew it was shameful to borrow money from a young girl.
The emperor could no longer bear it, so he coughed and changed the subject, asking her where she was going.
"I'm going to see my friend."
These days, Chuanwen goes to see Ergou every noon. At first, Ergou tried to hide it from her, but after Chuanwen found out, Ergou became more open about it.
What are you all doing here?
Seeing that the emperor was dressed in plain clothes, Chuanwen did not address him as emperor.
Shen Congliang briefly recounted what had just happened, and emphasized to Chuanwen the plaque of the Tian family medical clinic and the middle-aged man who claimed to be the successor of the medical sage.
Chuanwen looked over, his big eyes filled with doubt.
Are the descendants of the legendary physician now commonplace?
She met one a few days ago too.
However, Chuanwen noticed the person on the ground and immediately recognized him as Qi Feng.
She had been visiting Tian Wanyin frequently these past few days because of Er Gou's illness, and had become familiar with Qi Feng. So when she saw Qi Feng in such a miserable state, she was shocked.
Fortunately, Wei Xiang arrived with Tian Wanyin at this moment. When Tian Wanyin saw that Qi Feng's chest was covered in blood, she was also shocked and quickly went over to take his pulse.
After taking his pulse, Tian Wanyin noticed a silver needle in his hair. She frowned deeply, though she was furious and wanted to question who had misused the acupuncture. But with Qi Feng's life hanging by a thread, she had no choice but to suppress her anger and begin acupuncture to save him.
However, Qi Feng's condition was very bad, and she had to take a risky gamble. She needed to be fully focused when administering acupuncture, but the crowded and noisy streets were not the right environment for saving a life.
She glanced around and saw the clinic, but before she could even ask to use the place, the middle-aged man quickly refused, "Go somewhere else for treatment, don't die in my clinic!"
Upon hearing this, Tian Wanyin frowned. "You also run a clinic. Doctors should have a compassionate heart. Are you just going to watch a person die here?"
"Yes, aren't you the successor of the Medical Sage? How come you have no medical ethics at all?"
The onlookers looked at the middle-aged man with some disappointment and began to speak up for Tian Wanyin. After all, it was a human life at stake. She was just borrowing the place, so why was she making such a fuss?
The middle-aged man, sweating slightly from being supported, could only explain with difficulty, "This person is beyond saving. What if they go in and kill him, and then blame it on us? We're new here, and we're most afraid of news of people dying from our treatments. Wouldn't that make our clinic go out of business?"
The onlookers looked at each other and lowered their voices, realizing that what the other person was considering made sense.
The emperor said, "Why don't we all go in together? With everyone watching, even if she's bad at treating someone and they die, we won't blame you."
The onlookers nodded, "Don't worry, Dr. Tian, we'll keep an eye on them!"
"Yes, we can all be your witnesses!"
The group chatted amongst themselves, and the middle-aged man's mind raced. It seemed that if he didn't want to ruin his reputation, he really had to borrow this place.
He glanced again at the man on the ground, his eyes tightly shut. The man's face was already black, and he was barely breathing; it seemed there was no way to save him. He then agreed, cupping his hands to the crowd and saying, "Saving lives is a doctor's duty, and I can't bear to see this young man die at such a young age. However, we also need to survive. I hope everyone can be my witness. If this man dies after we go in, please don't say it was our clinic that killed him."
"Don't worry, Dr. Tian!"
"We will certainly bear witness for you!"
The middle-aged man's shrewd eyes flashed. Seeing everyone's support, he felt less conflicted and even cheered up. He thought that this misfortune might actually bring him good fortune and help him build a reputation.
Yin Shuang and several onlookers carried Qi Feng into the clinic. Tian Wanyin also noticed that the crowd had called the middle-aged man the successor of the medical sage. Although she was puzzled, saving lives was the priority, so she didn't care. After entering the clinic, she began to administer acupuncture to save Qi Feng. Yin Shuang stood guard on the side to prevent them from disturbing him.
The hall was crowded with people, but only the emperor, Shen Congliang, Chuanwen, and the middle-aged man were seated; the others dared not sit.
Because the emperor and his entourage were dressed in ways that clearly distinguished them from ordinary people, especially with Wei Xiang standing behind the emperor carrying a sword, who was obviously wealthy and noble.
Ordinary people naturally have a sense of awe towards the wealthy and powerful, and therefore dare not sit on equal footing with them.
The middle-aged man, however, was dissatisfied with the emperor sitting in the main seat. Although these people were all rich and powerful, he was not without a background since he dared to open a clinic in the capital. He was afraid of these people.
When Shen Congliang first revealed his identity as the General of the Golden Guard, the middle-aged man was skeptical, because neither of them had ridden in a carriage or sedan chair. What general goes on business on foot?
Moreover, Shen Congliang wanted to send his attendant to call for help, but was stopped. This increased the middle-aged man's disbelief; he was probably just trying to scare him. The man stopped him from calling for help because he was afraid of being exposed.
"Are you a descendant of the Medical Sage?"
As the middle-aged man was lost in his thoughts, a voice suddenly rang out. He looked up and saw the little girl who had stepped down from the carriage.
