Chapter 21 Busy Seizing the Title

Chuanwen, on the other hand, felt as if his Ren and Du meridians had been opened, experiencing a sudden enlightenment. So, that wretched Princess Chaoyang was obsessed with looks, and the only thing that could cure her love-struck brain was disfigurement. Princess Baohui also stumbled upon this by accident, lashing Zhou Yong's face twice with her whip.

It's understandable that the Princess of Chaoyang fell in love with Zhang Qing at first sight later on. Chuanwen is thoroughly enjoying the gossip.

While the group of young ladies were chatting happily, Qiuye, the head maidservant of Madam Wang, came to invite Chuanyu, saying that the madam had a headache and wanted Chuanyu to go and take a look.

Chuanyu knew what her mother was up to in the blink of an eye. Chuanwen had offended Princess Baohui before, and now Princess Baohui was troubled by Zhou Yong's matter. Her mother was afraid that she would be attacked indiscriminately by Princess Baohui, so she did not want her to be close to Chuanwen. This headache was probably fake.

Despite her thoughts, she had no choice but to get up and leave to save face for her mother.

Before leaving, Qiuye reminded Chuanyu's close friends about Chuanwen offending Princess Baohui. The girls had heard about it and felt quite sorry for Chuanwen. Turning to look at Chuanwen, who was badly injured, and especially seeing her happily munching on a candied hawthorn without realizing the seriousness of the situation, they felt even more sorry for her...

Although I dare not offend Princess Bao Hui, I will keep the innocent and lovely Wen sister company this once.

"Second Miss, people from the Princess's residence have arrived. Master is leading them towards this courtyard!"

A young maidservant rushed in.

Chuan Yu frowned deeply and shielded Chuan Wen behind her.

The girls glanced at Qiu Ye's smug expression, then looked at Chuan Wen, and silently took a step back, their eyes filled with sorrow: Sister Wen, we support you emotionally.

Chuanwen cursed under his breath for being disloyal and wanted to run away, but when he looked at his foot, which was bound in a splint, he decided to hurry up and eat a couple more candied hawthorns. Maybe he wouldn't be able to eat them anymore. Or rather, maybe there wouldn't be a "later."

"Wenwen, Princess Baohui has sent you a lot of things!"

Marquis Changxing arrived with a loud laugh, followed by a group of people carrying boxes and chests, all cheerfully delivering the documents to the courtyard of Chuanwen.

What, what's going on?

Before anyone could react, the leader of that group began reading out the list of gifts:

"A pair of gold-inlaid jade ruyi scepters!"

"Twelve strings of South China Sea pearls!"

"Eight pairs of exquisite agate locks from the Western Regions!"

......

With each gift read aloud, everyone swallowed hard. South China Sea pearls were a rare delicacy, with only a small basket produced each year, all of which were offered as tribute to the palace. Princess Baohui presented twelve strings of them at once!

And then there's the agate from the Western Regions. With the recent unrest in the Western Regions, this agate has become even more precious. Princess Baohui is so generous, giving away eight pairs at once!

Everyone couldn't help but look at Chuanwen, asking, "May I ask this fairy sister, how did you win Princess Baohui's favor?"

Equally bewildered, Chuanwen wrote: "...Look at me, I don't know either..."

Everyone was stunned. It wasn't until the long list of gifts was finished that everyone came to their senses.

Chuanyu blinked and stammered as he asked Marquis Changxing, "Grandfather, why...did Princess Baohui send so many things to Sister Wen?"

While directing people to carry the items to the storeroom in the courtyard, Marquis Changxing replied to Chuanyu with a smile, "Princess Baohui said that she and our Wenwen hit it off immediately and felt very close, so she sent these to express her feelings."

Marquis Changxing was overjoyed; these were all Princess Baohui's gifts of gratitude. Although these things were all for Chuanwen and he wouldn't receive any of them, Marquis Changxing was still very happy.

How many people in the entire capital could Princess Bao Hui possibly approve of? Yet she gave Chuanwen of their family such a huge advantage. How prestigious that must be! Besides, Chuanwen helped their Marquis's mansion turn Princess Bao Hui from an enemy into a friend—isn't that something to be happy about? Hahaha.

"Feeling like old friends at first sight?"

"Very friendly?"

Chuan Yu's group of girlfriends were all staring blankly at each other. Even Chuan Wen was stunned. Looking at Princess Bao Hui's gritted teeth at the banquet, it didn't seem like they hit it off with each other at first sight, but rather like she wanted to devour her.

[Could it be that Princess Bao Hui... is ill?]

No, she's not sick. Marquis Changxing couldn't stop smiling and comforted Chuanwen, telling her to accept the gift without worry.

Chuanwen took a bite of a hawthorn. Well, although she didn't know what had gotten into Princess Baohui, she reluctantly accepted it.

"Sis, pick whatever you want."

Chuanwen glanced at Chuanyu, the only one who hadn't retreated but had instead protected him from behind, and then looked at the disloyal fellows. The group shrank back. Well, they couldn't be blamed; Princess Baohui's reputation was just too intimidating.

Although Chuanyu was pleasantly surprised that Chuanwen would let her choose whatever she wanted, she didn't take a single item. Her storeroom already had enough, and she hoped that Chuanwen's storeroom would be fuller. However, Chuanwen still managed to stuff a box of South China Sea pearls into her hands.

After Chuanyu returned with Qiuye carrying a box of pearls, Wangshi smashed two teacups in anger, and her health, which had just started to improve, collapsed on the couch in a fit of rage.

That evening, Chuanwen finally managed to catch a glimpse of her parents, who were always nowhere to be seen. It was understandable that her brother had been sent to school with Chuanze by her adoptive grandfather, but what was her parents up to, who were always nowhere to be seen?

When Chuanrui and Xu Yan, who hadn't been home all day, saw their precious daughter with bandages wrapped around her hands and feet, they were both heartbroken and furious. How could their daughter have become like this after only one day away from home!

"You weren't home for a day?" Chuanwen looked at the two of them, extending his right hand, which wasn't bandaged, to count and help them remember. The two of them immediately felt guilty.

“Daughter, your father and I have been quite busy these past few days and haven’t been watching you closely enough, which is why you got hurt. It’s all our fault. But we thought that even though Marquis Changxing and the others treated us well, they could take good care of you even without your parents. Who knew they would take such good care of you like this? Don’t worry, your father and mother will definitely get justice for you!”

As Xu Yan continued explaining, she started to walk outside, looking like she was about to start a fight.

Chuanwen chuckled coldly, "Mother, don't even think about getting away with this."

Xu Yan, who was about to make a quick getaway, paused, sighing inwardly that it wasn't good for her daughter to be too smart. Then she was met with disdain from her own overly clever daughter.

"You two are unfamiliar with the capital city. You'll have to ask for directions to the market if you want to go anywhere. What could you possibly be busy with?"

Just as Xu Yan and Chuan Rui were about to explain, they overheard Chuan Wen's inner thoughts: "Could it be that my parents are really plotting to seize the title behind my back?"

Chuanrui almost coughed, and quickly explained, "Daughter, your mother and I are really busy?"

Busy seizing titles?

"I'm really busy with important matters..."

[Is the real business to confiscate the title?]

"That's the one..."

[Revoking the title?]

"Strip him of his title..."

[It really was a case of seizing the title!]

Chuanwen expressed his disappointment and frustration with his father.

Chuan Rui was stunned: ...What did I just say?

Xu Yan also looked at her husband, and the three of them stared at each other, the room falling silent for a moment.

The maid who had been eavesdropping outside the window quietly retreated and quickly ran to report to Madam Wang.
