For the next twenty days, Chuanwen was confined to the mansion to prepare for her marriage. Even though she didn't have to do anything, she had to listen.
For example, when the old lady of Changxing Marquis and Xu Yan were embroidering her wedding dress, she had to listen to the two of them nagging about the Three Obediences and Four Virtues. However, when they saw Chuanwen's expression of letting it go in one ear and out the other, they knew that it was pointless to talk about it.
For example, when preparing dowry items such as quilts, pots, and pans, most families would tell their daughters not to be afraid when they arrive at their husband's family home, as everything has been prepared for them, even the washbasin. This is the confidence their family gives them. However, in Chuanwen's case, it became, "Although our family is wealthy, you can't bully people when you go to their home. You must get along well with your brother, sister-in-law, and sister-in-law, and especially avoid causing trouble so they don't have to worry about you."
The post was somewhat speechless: "Me, an adult, causing trouble? Besides, haven't I always been quite well-behaved?"
From Chuanwen's perspective, she was indeed very well-behaved and never caused any trouble.
However, the old lady of the Marquis of Changxing and Xu Yan disagreed. They could only say that if it weren't for Chuanwen's amazing brain, their Marquis of Changxing's mansion might have been raided long ago!
When the two men gave him their earnest advice, Chuanwen would either say whatever they wanted and he would listen to what they said, or he would just silently eat sunflower seeds.
However, besides listening to the two of them chatter, Chuanwen also received a lot of good things. Her cheap grandmother gave her more than a dozen shops and estates, all of which were good shops and estates, as well as several pieces of jewelry that she treasured.
The old lady of Changxing Marquis was very good at managing her business. She owned many shops and estates, as well as many good things. She divided them into three parts: one part for Chuanwen, one part for Chuanyu, and the last part for herself to use in her old age. She would then divide it among the Chuanhai and Chuanrui families when she was no longer useful.
Besides what her grandmother gave her, Chuanwen also received a considerable amount of silver notes and land from Xu Yan. She could understand all of this, but she was somewhat surprised that Madam Wang would also provide her with a dowry.
"Keep it with you for protection. After all, you came from the Marquis's mansion. Otherwise, people will look down on you, and it will be the Marquis's mansion that loses face."
The words were harsh, but Chuanwen glanced at the several promising shop listings in his hand. "Uh... this is what they call giving a bribe and offending someone," he thought.
After giving the shop away, Wang regretted it as soon as she returned to her courtyard. Chuanwen was going to be married off, but Chuanwu was still alive. Wouldn't he have to share the family property with her son in the future? If only she had given Chuanwen less money earlier!
Wang sighed repeatedly. She had been in a good mood because Chuanwen was getting married, but now she was depressed and didn't eat much that night.
Lying in bed at night, I tried to comfort myself, sighing, "That kid Chuanwu has had a hard time too. He even got slept with by Tang Fengxing while trying to do some research. Nobody in the Marquis's mansion cares about him. He's pitiful. Let him divide the inheritance."
I kept telling myself that all night, and I felt much better the next day, so I went to Chuanyu Courtyard early in the morning.
Chuanwen is two years younger than her own daughter, and now that he's getting married, she's getting a little anxious and wants her daughter to get married soon too.
But when they arrived, they found their daughter was not there. They asked the maidservants in the courtyard, "Didn't Miss have breakfast before going to the girls' school? Why isn't she in the courtyard?"
She was afraid that if she arrived late, her daughter wouldn't be there, so she got up very early, but in the end, she still wasn't there.
"They said they went to the Second Miss's courtyard."
The maidservant respectfully reported back, and Madam Wang frowned. What was she doing in that maidservant's courtyard?
Just as they were about to leave, Chuanyu returned, and the two met at the courtyard gate.
"Mother, what brings you here so early in the morning?"
Chuanyu took Wang's arm, becoming even more affectionate than usual.
Wang looked at her daughter with a puzzled expression, only to see that her daughter seemed quite sentimental, probably because she had seen Chuanwen get married and had some feelings about it.
"What are you doing going to see that girl so early in the morning?"
When asked by Madam Wang, Chuanyu smiled and said, "Sister Wen loves to eat, drink, and go shopping. She can't afford to spend her in-laws' money, so I moved some of my storeroom to her."
Wang was furious when she heard this. She had finally managed to calm herself down, but Chuanyu had angered her so much that she was driven back to her senses.
"You...you gave it all to her, what are you going to do now!"
Wang's fingers trembled with anger.
Chuanyu quickly poured tea for Shunbei, saying, "Mother, I spend all my time at the girls' school, and I have nowhere to spend this money. I might as well give it to Sister Wen."
Speaking of this, Wang Shi was even angrier, pointing at Chuan Yu and stammering for a long time before finally managing to say a complete sentence, "Everyone else knows to eat, drink, and have fun every day, but you're busy like an idiot, never having a moment to rest. What are you trying to achieve!"
Although Wang did not interfere with Chuanyu's attending the girls' school, in her view, a woman should stay at home obediently to support her husband and raise her children, and enjoy herself when she had nothing to do.
But her daughter is like a simpleton, she doesn't know how to enjoy life as well as that peasant.
As for what he's after, Chuanyu isn't after anything in particular. It's just something he's interested in. He finds it very interesting, and it's a good thing that benefits the country and its people, so why not do it?
"Mother, are you receiving more invitations to banquets than before? And are there many elegant ladies coming to talk to you at the banquets?"
Chuanyu knew her mother's temperament, so she could only offer advice indirectly.
After she said that, Wang's arrogance subsided considerably, because it was indeed true, and she also knew that it was all thanks to her daughter.
Everyone knows that her daughter is in charge at the research institute, and that many things that have appeared in Beijing, including the railway and the electricity used, were developed by the research institute.
Although the Changxing Marquis's family used to do well in the capital, things are different now. Even the emperor values them highly, and many people are trying to curry favor with them.
Seeing that she wasn't so angry anymore, Chuanyu took her to eat.
