Chapter 31 Heroes

The family took turns trying to explain to Chuanwen and Xu Yan, "You can't run away. What will happen to them if you run away?"

Wang was completely bewildered. So what if they ran away? What did it have to do with them?

Interrupting Marquis Changxing's long-winded speech, Lady Wang finally understood that the emperor wanted Chuanwen to enter the palace to be the little princess's study companion! Pfft! Lady Wang almost spat out a mouthful of blood!

What the heck! A messenger has been summoned to the palace to serve as a study companion!

Just as Wang was bottling up her anger, Chuan Hai was actually relieved that his wife had stayed up late, otherwise Chuan Wen would have escaped.

Wang, who deliberately stayed up all night waiting to catch the two of them: ..., a little dazed, um, can time be turned back? She must be sleeping like a log!

Chuanwen eventually entered the palace. Excluding the exaggerated analysis by Marquis Changxing and Chuanhai that defying the imperial decree was a capital offense and would result in being hunted to the ends of the earth, there was also the fact that Marquis Changxing had a sudden inspiration and mentioned Consort Zhao.

The Marquis of Changxing's original words were, "The little princess's mother, Consort Zhao, is a master of culinary arts!"

"Moreover, Consort Zhao loves to cook. She'll get angry with anyone who tries to stop her. She's also very easy to get along with. She even cooks for the palace maids. Every one of the maids and eunuchs praises her!"

However, the next day, in the palace, Chuanwen, holding the still-breastfeeding princess, looked somewhat bewildered at Consort Zhao, who was not far away, offering a plate of burnt food to a palace maid, who was getting impatient with her for refusing to eat...

Reading aloud together? Chuanwen's brow furrowed. Heh...heh...does your baby, who's still breastfeeding, need to learn to read?

A culinary expert? Chuanwen clenched his fists and chuckled...

Is it too late to play dead now...?

"Grandpa, I trusted you so much, and you actually fooled me!" Chuanwen immediately blacklisted Marquis Changxing, lamenting his carelessness. He should have carefully reviewed the script before entering the palace to see how good Consort Zhao's cooking skills really were.

Marquis Changxing, who was drinking tea in his mansion, felt a chill run down his spine. He thought of his granddaughter and felt guilty. "Granddaughter, it's not that your grandfather is lying to you, it's just that you've already shown your face to the emperor. You can't escape now. Alas."

Xu Yan continued to focus on her own business. As Marquis Changxing had said, the emperor wouldn't do anything to her daughter, so she didn't need to worry. The most important thing was to save up a dowry for her daughter.

In the past, people in the village didn't need much dowry when they got married, but that's not the case now. Her daughter is now a daughter of a wealthy family, and she needs to have a prestigious wedding.

Wang was bedridden again. She had originally intended to deal with that family, but ended up helping them instead. If she had known, she wouldn't have blocked them; she would have let them sneak away.

"You used to hang out with that mud-covered girl, didn't you? How come she went to the palace as a study companion, but they didn't get you in too!"

Seeing her daughter's nonchalant attitude infuriated Wang. Chuanyu remained silent, meekly serving Wang the medicine, which only fueled Wang's anger.

"Tell me, how did my competitive nature end up making you such a calm and even-tempered person!"

Chuanyu wasn't angry at Wang's accusations. She didn't want to go to the palace at all. There was no freedom in the palace, let alone leaving.

Outside the palace, there are still people she wants to see.

"Mother, take your medicine."

Chuanyu's nonchalant attitude only fueled Wang's anger. She picked up the bowl of dark medicine and downed it in one gulp. It was so bitter that her tongue curled up. Fortunately, Chuanyu quickly handed her a candied fruit.

Sigh, Madam Wang finally sighed. Her daughter was disappointing, so she, as the mother, had no choice but to make the arrangements.

"Tomorrow, Countess Heishi will be hosting a polo match. Winter is just around the corner, and this will be the last one. This time is different from usual; Countess Heishi has invited many talented young men from the capital. Dress up nicely for the occasion."

Upon hearing this, Chuanyu's eyes lit up with joy, but Wang Shi continued, "The Third Prince will be there too. Find an opportunity to talk to him. With your looks, he will definitely take notice of you."

The Crown Prince is currently ill and weak, and the only capable prince is the Third Prince. Perhaps the Third Prince will ascend the throne in the future, and if you marry him, you might even become the Empress.

The joy in Chuanyu's eyes instantly faded. "But, Mother, everyone's saying that the Third Prince..."

“That’s nonsense!” Madam Wang said firmly. Looking at her beautiful daughter, she felt a little guilty and said kindly, “I just wanted you to talk first. Nothing’s wrong with that. While you’re talking, you can observe and see if those rumors are true.”

Chuan Yu didn't want to think about it, and just mumbled an agreement. Anyway, so many people were thinking about the Third Prince, and she might not even have a chance to speak to him.

During the morning court session, civil and military officials lined up on both sides, while a pale-faced but handsome young man knelt in the center. Zhang Hui stood beside him, his powerful voice echoing throughout the hall.

"Your Majesty, I must impeach Zhang Qing, the magistrate of Gaoyi County, for returning to the capital without being summoned!"

The Emperor is having another headache. When will Minister Zhang ever get out of here?

Zhang Hui was still babbling on and on, while Zhang Qing's pale face turned even darker.

This was the first time she had seen her father in thirteen years, but she never expected to see him like this. Even though he didn't know her true identity, her father still disliked her just as much as he had thirteen years ago.

Zhang Qing chuckled inwardly, his expression turning cold. He bowed respectfully and said in an icy voice, "Your Majesty, I also wish to submit a memorial."

The emperor looked at Zhang Qing, wondering what Zhang Qing wanted to impeach. The other ministers also looked over, their pity for him mixed with their doubts.

Zhang Qing glanced coldly at Zhang Hui beside him, "I wish to impeach Prime Minister Zhang Hui!"
