The last message, asking when it would end, was sent an hour ago, and then no other messages came through.
Qiao Nansheng didn't know if he was still waiting for her downstairs or had already gone back.
I sent him a message, just to test the waters.
Xiao Qiao hasn't gotten any stronger today: I'm down here, are you still in the garage?
As soon as the message was sent, the note showed the words "The other party is speaking".
Qiao Nansheng glanced at the other people in the elevator, silently turned down the volume, and then held her phone to her ear to listen to the voice message.
Zhou Cheng said, "Yes, I'm still here. Just get out and walk to the left. I'll stay in the car."
The man's voice was deep, husky, and magnetic, as if he were speaking right next to her ear. For some reason, Qiao Nansheng's heart skipped a beat.
She took off her phone, her expression somewhat unnatural, and slowly replied with a "okay".
The elevator reached the first floor, and the doors slowly opened.
The others went out one after another, and Tang Xuerou followed. When she realized that Qiao Nansheng hadn't followed, she turned back to look at her and asked, "Aren't you coming?"
"Someone answered," Qiao Nansheng replied casually.
"Oh." Tang Xuerou nodded and was about to turn around and leave when she suddenly turned back: "Nan Sheng, look how late it is. I didn't drive here. Anyway, we're going the same way, can you give me a ride?"
This is not a question; it's a statement.
After Tang Xuerou finished speaking, she didn't give Qiao Nansheng a chance to refuse and squeezed into the elevator that was about to close.
“I haven’t agreed yet,” Qiao Nansheng said.
Tang Xuerou immediately put on a pitiful expression: "But it's raining outside, and I didn't bring an umbrella. Nan Sheng won't make me go to the station in the rain, will she?"
“We’re still good friends… Just let Sheng Zhuo give me a ride back, I can pay for the fare.” She said in a very aggrieved tone.
Qiao Nansheng didn't miss the gleam in her eyes when she mentioned the name "Sheng Zhuo," a hint of excitement in them.
It seems she had already guessed that the person who came to pick up Qiao Nansheng was not Sheng Zhuo, but Zhou Cheng, which is why she came back after getting off the elevator.
Unsure of what she intended to do, Qiao Nansheng glanced at Tang Xuerou discreetly for a few moments before finally giving a low "Mm": "Okay."
She wanted to see what tricks Tang Xuerou was up to.
The elevator arrived at the garage, and the two of them went out one after the other. Qiao Nansheng remembered the place Zhou Cheng had mentioned and walked towards it. Sure enough, she saw the car that usually picked her up and dropped her off parked there.
They went over together, the car window rolled down, and Zhou Cheng, wearing a mask, peeked out. When he saw Tang Xuerou, he frowned.
"Why is she here?" Zhou Cheng turned to look at Qiao Nansheng, his voice slightly displeased.
He never liked Tang Xuerou and was indifferent to her, especially after Qiao Nansheng talked nonsense while drunk last night, which made him continue to like Tang Xuerou... Zhou Cheng disliked Tang Xuerou even more.
He's seen it all before: a woman gets along well with her best friend but still has designs on her best friend's boyfriend. There are several examples of this in the entertainment industry, and he's also seen many cases where such things lead to arguments, fights, and even make the news.
Although Zhou Cheng wasn't gossipy, there were gossipy people around him. When they finished filming and were resting on set, Xiang Fei liked to chat with him about these things.
Furthermore, from the moment he first saw Tang Xuerou, he inexplicably disliked and resented her.
So when Zhou Cheng saw Qiao Nansheng bring Tang Xuerou along, he was in a bad mood. He remembered telling her before to have less contact with Tang Xuerou.
Qiao Nansheng noticed the displeasure in his voice, blinked, glanced back at Tang Xuerou, and then said with a smile, "It's raining outside, and she didn't bring an umbrella, so she came to hitch a ride. You can't just let a girl walk to the station in the rain, can you?"
She added a few words to what Tang Xuerou had said to her before, and told them to Zhou Cheng.
Then Zhou Cheng's face looked even worse than before.
Does it matter to him whether Tang Xuerou brought an umbrella or not, or whether she got wet in the rain?
He had a sour face, but because she was Qiao Nansheng's friend, he didn't say much. He glanced at Tang Xuerou, who looked embarrassed, and said in a light voice, "Well, let's get in the car and take her home first."
Qiao Nansheng naturally opened the back door and got in.
Tang Xuerou glanced at her, then at the passenger seat, a glint of light flashing in her eyes.
She opened the passenger door, but before she could get in, she heard Zhou Cheng say, "Sorry, only my wife can sit in the passenger seat. Please sit in the back."
"..."
Tang Xuerou's face immediately contorted.
After Zhou Cheng finished speaking, he didn't look at Tang Xuerou's expression, but turned to the woman in the back seat: "Sit in the front."
"It's safer in the back," Qiao Nansheng replied, without going to the front. "Let Xue Rou sit there if she wants. It's just one seat, it's not a big deal."
Zhou Cheng didn't say anything, he just stared at her.
A few seconds later, Qiao Nansheng gave up and went to sit in the front, while Tang Xuerou sat alone in the back.
The car drove out of the Huaying parking garage.
It was indeed raining heavily outside, with thunder and lightning. Every now and then, a few flashes of lightning streaked across the dark sky, the white light so bright it hurt the eyes.
Raindrops fell on the car window, making a crisp sound.
The car was too quiet, and no one spoke. Qiao Nansheng had been waiting for Tang Xuerou to cause trouble after getting in the car, but she didn't say anything. After getting in, she sat silently in the back seat and took out her phone to look at something.
Only after dropping Tang Xuerou off at her apartment building did she look up and say, "Oh, we're here."
She unbuckled her seatbelt and said with a gentle smile, "Thank you, Nan Sheng and Actor Zhou, for bringing me back. I'll head back now and treat you to a meal next time I have the chance to repay you."
Qiao Nansheng's eyes lit up when she heard the first sentence, thinking, "Finally, they've arrived!" But when she heard the last sentence, the light in her eyes dimmed. She shrugged, thinking, "I thought they had some tricks up their sleeves, but all they did was invite them to dinner."
She rubbed her ear and said nonchalantly, "No need, it's just on my way."
Tang Xuerou didn't say anything more. She opened the car door to get out, but the heavy rain outside blew in and soaked her clothes.
Tang Xuerou pulled her out foot back.
She turned to look at Zhou Cheng, her eyes filled with anticipation: "Actor Zhou, I saw an umbrella behind you. Could I borrow it? I'll take it to Nan Sheng when I go to the training room tomorrow."
Beneath the mask, Zhou Cheng's face was expressionless. He was about to refuse when he suddenly noticed Qiao Nansheng looking at him with an excited and expectant expression.
What's she so excited about?
Zhou Cheng was a little annoyed. He had originally wanted to refuse Tang Xuerou, but under Qiao Nansheng's intensely expectant gaze, he nodded and said, "Okay."
Tang Xuerou reached out and took the umbrella, happily opening it up.
"Thank you, Actor Zhou."
