This book originated from an idea that suddenly popped into my mind:
"At the awards ceremony, the best actress ran away without accepting her award, just to go home and celebrate her husband's birthday."
A year ago, based on this idea, I wrote several openings, but I was not satisfied with any of them.
Until one day, I wrote the first chapter in one go: Singing Your Song on the Rooftop.
This is the beginning of the book that everyone later saw.
Fortunately, my editor Qilin approved the manuscript in less than two minutes.
I still remember that the first chapter of this book was released at 8:08 on June 8, 2020.
This is such an auspicious time.
This book also exceeded my expectations. I originally thought that it would be enough to write the perfect image of an oriental woman in my mind. As for the results, as long as I could make a living, that would be enough.
But unexpectedly, the results were better than I expected.
I never even thought that one day I would be able to write a novel of more than two million words.
I just don’t know if readers are satisfied with the image of Lin Yao?
In short, I tried my best.
Around chapter 300, I started to think about trying to describe group portraits.
I want to make each main supporting character more three-dimensional, rather than just a functional made-up character.
This also led to a big disagreement among many people about this book at the time:
Some people think that the supporting roles have too many scenes and steal the show from the main characters, while others think that the supporting roles are very interesting.
However, I still persisted in this attempt. Looking back now, there are still a few pretty good characters.
For example, Mo Yan who has a plan for everything, Fang Fang who is an all-purpose tool, the everlasting scumbag Xiong, Liu Dui Dui who went from being a green tea girl to a model worker, Da Wanwan, and Chen Qiao who is wondering why you haven't died yet.
Of course, there are also some characters that I didn’t have time to describe more, or that I was unable to describe better because of my lack of writing skills.
For example, Zhang Zhiqin, Li Linghua, Zhang Xin, Yang Jiaxin, Zhou Xiyang and so on.
Fortunately, at least through this book, I have found a path that suits me - writing characters.
I believe that friends who have been following the book for a long time have the same feeling. I am better at writing characters than writing stories.
This results in the book not being detailed enough in terms of plot, especially in many details.
This is the question I address in my new book.
