"Mr. Wei, Kui Dongqiang is coming down."
The lady at the front desk received the news and notified Wei Shaoyan immediately.
Wei Shaoyan nodded and thanked him, then turned around and sighed when he saw Qin Sheng closing his eyes to rest.
"Don't feel uncomfortable. This is how it is in this business. We have no reputation and no investment, so it's common for us to wait for others."
He understood Qin Sheng's character. He was a man with no patience and a bad temper.
Although he has changed a lot recently, Wei Shaoyan always believes that human nature is deeply rooted and it is harder to change it than moving mountains.
But Qin Sheng shook his head and said, "I'm just sleepy, you're thinking too much."
"Yeah?"
"Yes." Qin Sheng half-closed his eyes playfully, "I'm not that delicate."
"It's great that you think so."
As he was speaking, he suddenly heard footsteps in the distance, followed by a passionate and apologetic voice.
"Hello, Director Wei. I'm so sorry. I never bring my phone with me when I work out. I thought it would take you quite a while, but you arrived so quickly. I'm so sorry."
Before Wei Shaoyan could react, Kui Dongqiang had already grabbed his hand.
"Who is this?"
Kui Dongqiang's eyes suddenly glanced to the left, and Wei Shaoyan hurriedly explained,
"This is my deputy, his last name is Qin."
"It's Mr. Qin, hello."
He politely shook hands with Qin Sheng. Kui Dongqiang and his agent sat on his right. He didn't beat around the bush and simply got straight to the point.
"Mr. Wei, I heard your crew is going to shoot a sitcom, right? Could you please let me have a look at the script?"
"Sure." Wei Shaoyan immediately took out the script from his briefcase and handed it over.
Kui Dongqiang took the script and read it carefully. He graduated from a professional school, and when Wei Shaoyan contacted Sister Jing before, he had pointed out the role of "Bai Zhantang", so after flipping through a few pages, he roughly understood the positioning of this role and the direction of the play.
He is nothing more than a "King of Thieves" who is highly skilled in martial arts but a bit timid and is eager to retire.
It's quite good, and the plot is interesting.
But a good script is far from enough. As a fairly experienced actor, Kui Dongqiang clearly understands that to make a good drama, the script alone is not enough. What is more important are the director's guidance, post-production editing, and many other factors.
In fact, this is easy to understand. If a good script can define the quality of a drama, then the movies and TV series adapted from popular novels in the past should all be masterpieces. However, the reality is often not as simple as expected.
Kui Dongqiang had never heard of the director of this play. He guessed that he was just a grassroots director who emerged from some bushes, so he urgently needed to compensate for this part of the risk financially.
It was obvious that the two had already prepared their remarks, so after Kui Dongqiang put down the script, the agent took one look at his face and interrupted,
"I believe Director Wei is aware of Dongqiang's situation. This next project is extremely important to him. It will be a watershed moment for Dongqiang. If it fails, he'll have no place in the industry from now on. If it succeeds, he can completely shed the 'poison' label. Director Wei should understand, right?"
"I understand that." Wei Shaoyan nodded solemnly and said seriously, "Please rest assured. Although our team hasn't produced any outstanding works yet, the director of the crew is my college classmate. I know him very well. He is not only approachable, but also talented and has strong professional guidance capabilities. The script you are reading now was written entirely by him..."
Looking at Wei Shaoyan who was praising him fiercely, Qin Sheng grinned slightly and wanted to laugh secretly.
Approachable?
Talented?
Well, I was right—
"Since Director Wei understands, and Dongqiang is quite interested in this script, let's discuss the remuneration package."
"Okay." Wei Shaoyan nodded calmly.
Qin Sheng looked at Kui Dongqiang with a playful look at this time. As someone who had seen countless people, he naturally saw through the purpose of these two people's double act. They just wanted to gain more benefits for themselves.
There is nothing wrong with trying to gain more benefits for oneself, but if they ask for too much, Qin Sheng will not have the patience to waste time with them.
"Our crew is willing to offer Mr. Kui 50,000 per episode. I wonder..."
However, before Wei Shaoyan could finish, his agent interrupted him with a cold face and shook his head.
"Mr. Wei, although Dongqiang has been in a bad situation recently, you are well aware of his abilities, so such a low salary is absolutely unacceptable."
"So what do you think the remuneration should be?"
Wei Shaoyan simply threw the burden over, let them name the price, and he would take the initiative.
The agent and Kui Dongqiang looked at each other, then pursed their lips as if thinking deeply.
"Hmm...how about this," she said with a formal smile. "Director Wei, we know this is a low-budget sitcom, so naturally, we can't ask for too much. I think a salary of 200,000 per episode is the lowest we can ask for. After all, this is our utmost sincerity. If Dongqiang didn't particularly like this script, we would never accept such a low price."
At 200,000 per episode, the entire series should be around 40 episodes if there are no problems with the post-production review. This means that Kui Dongqiang's salary alone is not enough to cover the entire crew's expenses.
