Chapter 26
The escalators crisscrossed, and after standing on one, he reached the next floor. Then, he took the seemingly endless escalator up floor by floor. Xiaoming didn't want to go any further. He looked up and saw that it was the 9th floor.
Why does this look like a classroom in a teaching building? Are they about to start a class? I walked into a lecture hall, where a few people were sitting sparsely. I didn't recognize any of them; they were probably having a general education class.
After visiting a few more classrooms, Xiaoming thought, "I don't want to go to class, I should go downstairs." So he headed towards the stairwell.
However, there was only a slide in the stairwell; the escalator had disappeared. Xiaoming sat on the slide and slid down, spinning all the way down. When he stood on the ground, he saw his luggage on the conveyor belt, pulled it up, and started looking at the flight information on the big screen.
The train arrived at the station, and Xiaoming took out his phone to find his ticket information.
Following the crowd to the platform, train after train passed by, but Xiaoming still couldn't find his train number.
She crossed the platform and saw a row of parked buses ahead. She boarded the bus back to town, and the scenery rushing past was both strange and familiar. The bus slowly drove along the undulating road.
As the car drove along, it began to climb the hill, getting higher and higher until it reached the air.
Wings sprouted from the side of the bus, and the road below turned into a layer of white clouds.
After flying for a while, a towering mountain appeared at the edge of the field of vision. The long-winged bus turned into an airplane and crashed into the mountain without slowing down at all.
In a moment of panic, Xiaoming suddenly grabbed the steering wheel and pulled it upwards with all her might. [Lift! Lift it up now!]
This was the dream with the fastest scene changes that Jiang Lan had ever experienced, so she had not encountered anything strange.
The beginning was fine, except for the most exciting part, which was sliding down the 9th floor on a transparent slide. It wasn't until the constant changes in transportation, until the plane took off into the sky, that Jiang Lan felt it was a challenge.
If the scene successfully transitions to the ground, all is well. But if something goes wrong in the air, there's nothing you can do but wait to die.
As luck would have it, the bad news came true. When the passengers saw the towering mountain that suddenly appeared, they screamed in terror.
The reason is simple: this plane has no cockpit, no pilots, and the front of the plane is just a transparent glass panel shaped like a bus, giving an unobstructed view of the plane's surroundings.
There were very few empty seats on the plane, which meant there were probably more than two hundred people in this space.
Miraculously, an oxygen mask was deployed to each seat, and the seatbelts were fastened securely. Several people on the verge of a breakdown screamed and yanked at their seatbelts: "Let go of me! Let go of me!"
At this moment, the middle-aged man next to Jiang Lan shouted loudly, "Quiet! Everyone calm down! I am an airplane pilot. Please fasten your oxygen masks, put your hands behind your heads, bend over with your knees close to your knees, and push your feet firmly against the ground! If you make a scene now, you will surely die!"
As soon as Jiang Lan put on her oxygen mask following the instructions, she saw a seat shrouded in gray fog appear at the very front of the plane, followed by a car steering wheel in front of that fogged seat.
The captain, having fastened his oxygen mask, muttered, "What is this? Are we Muggles entering a magic academy?"
Then an even more surreal scene unfolded: the gray, foggy figure began to pull the steering wheel upwards, causing the plane's nose to lift and its altitude to increase.
Jiang Lan gripped the seatbelt, her back pressed tightly against the seat due to the plane's tilt. The previously noisy crowd quieted down, each holding their breath as they watched the gray, misty figure in the cockpit piloting the plane like a driver.
Then an even more outrageous scene unfolded: the captain next to him muttered, "I didn't know a car steering wheel could be pulled up this high. You can pull it up while sitting, squatting on the seat, or even standing up if that's not enough."
In such a serious situation, Jiang Lan almost laughed at the captain's words.
But soon, his smile vanished as he lay almost flat on his seat, which meant the plane was almost perpendicular to the ground. Even in a dream, was it really okay for a plane to fly like that?
The captain next to him seemed completely disoriented, muttering to himself as he tried to regain his senses: "Has this pilot watched too many plane crash movies? But even in plane crash movies, there shouldn't be such outrageous actions, right? Where am I? Who am I? Am I still a human being?"
The plane flew vertically upwards for a while, and the scenery outside the plane window gradually changed into a normal flight scene. However, the clouds below the plane disappeared, and the ground turned green.
The oxygen mask disappeared, and a sigh of relief came from his ear. Jiang Lan also breathed a sigh of relief. This was the first time he had encountered such a helpless situation where he was completely at the mercy of fate. It would be a lie to say that he was not nervous.
But they breathed a sigh of relief too soon, because a plane was flying right in front of them.
The passenger on the other side of Jiang Lan finally broke down. She grabbed Jiang Lan's arm and cried out, "What the hell is this? Is it ever going to be this torturous? When will this end?!"
As the plane rapidly approached, some people couldn't help but cover their faces, unable to bear watching.
The captain, his eyes fixed on the front, asked Jiang Lan, "Brother, what kind of crazy tricks do you think the big shot in the cockpit will pull?"
Jiang Lan frowned, but before she could say anything, she saw the gray-mist figure frantically turn the steering wheel and stomp on something. The plane drifted and twisted to the side, avoiding a head-on collision.
Instantly, shouts of "Holy crap!" rose and fell.
"What?! A brake, accelerator, and clutch have sprouted from under his feet?" The captain turned to Jiang Lan in disbelief. "Bro, did you see what the boss did? This is fucking outrageous! This is ridiculously outrageous!"
Xiao Ming boasted about his driving skills with a hint of pride: "Awesome!"
After thinking about it, I felt something was off. But what exactly was wrong?
The passengers realized something was wrong. When they passed another plane, the plane's wing was fine, but now that they were far apart, the plane seemed to only then realize what was happening, and the wing broke off in a delayed manner.
After a loud bang, thick smoke billowed out of the window, accompanied by flames.
The plane began to tilt, its altitude rapidly decreasing as it plummeted towards the ground. Xiaoming pulled the steering wheel upwards with all his might while slamming on the brakes.
Screams and curses erupted from the cabin once again.
Jiang Lan knew that the dream weaver couldn't hear the voices of other people in the dream, otherwise she might have turned into a Gatling gun and shot them all if she heard these curses.
The hazy ground began to clear, revealing a long runway. Everyone felt a strong forward thrust, followed by a violent jolt. A loud screech of the aircraft rubbing against the road surface came from below, and thick black smoke billowed up.
After taxiing for a while, the plane slowly came to a stop, and the seatbelts finally disappeared.
Before the seated person could recover, a gray figure lifted the chair, smashed the glass in front of them, squeezed through the gap, and jumped out.
Jiang Lan's expression changed upon seeing this, and she shouted, "Quick, smash the window and jump! Hurry!"
The captain grabbed Jiang Lan: "It's so high, how are you going to jump?!"
"Have you seen the movies? This is what happens when the plane is about to explode! If the pilot can jump, then we can jump too. Every second counts, jump now!"
Upon hearing that the plane was about to explode, everyone smashed the windows with their seats and jumped out. Strangely enough, the seats, which were originally fixed to the fuselage, separated and transformed into ordinary wooden chairs with backrests.
The passengers floated to the ground and, without a moment of surprise, hurriedly ran in the direction the pilot had left.
She hadn't run far when a violent explosion came from behind her. Those who were slower were thrown to the ground by the shockwave. Jiang Lan covered her ears, which were ringing instantly, and turned to look back. A blaze of fire shot into the sky.
Although last night was exciting, apart from a few people who were injured by the shockwave or fell to the ground and were injured, there were no fatalities, so Jiang Lan was in a pretty good mood when she woke up this morning.
After heating up breakfast, I went to wake Xiaoming up and then pressed him down and kissed him a few times.
After Xiaoming finished washing up and came out, he kept shaking his arm. I asked him, "What happened to your hand?"
"My arm must have been exposed to the cold last night, it's a bit sore now."
"Eat breakfast first, and then I'll rub some medicated oil on it for you."
Xiaoming didn't tell Jiang Lan the real reason his hand was sore; she probably dreamt last night that she turned the steering wheel too hard and strained a muscle.
She has a habit of never telling anyone about her dreams or what she dreams about.
When she started kindergarten, her parents were away doing business and couldn't take care of the family. Since Zhou Zaiming was in middle school, they simply sent her to live with her grandmother. She lived with her grandmother for six years before returning to town in the third grade.
Grandma Zhou was an old woman with bound feet, and she was a bit eccentric. In her daily life, she would tell Xiaoming all sorts of folk taboos. One night, Xiaoming had a dream, and when he woke up early, he excitedly told the old lady about it. The old lady looked at him seriously and said, "Don't tell anyone what you dreamed about. It's not good to tell anyone, not only for yourself, but also for the person who hears it."
When Xiaoming was a child, Grandma Zhou was a somewhat mysterious old lady. In addition, the old lady doted on Xiaoming, and Xiaoming regarded her words as gospel. From then on, she never told anyone about her dream.
Jiang Lan drove to the parking lot downstairs from the company building. Before getting out of the car, she dialed Li Zhiqiang's number. After telling him in detail about her dream from the previous night, Jiang Lan went to the office at the appointed time.
After gathering the data and preparing her proposal, Jiang Lan approached Liu Zhen and requested a transfer.
“I was just about to talk to you about the recent work adjustments. There’s a lot of business right now, so we need to hire a lot of people. Don’t mention any transfers. I’ve got the staff. You can delegate the specific project implementation to your subordinates. You just need to be the general manager. We all started from the bottom. Do you think I don’t know what kind of company employees hate the most? From now on, except for special circumstances, try not to work overtime. If we don’t work overtime, why are you still making a fuss about transfers?”
"Also, the company is expanding and there aren't enough people here. I plan to relocate the whole company to the factory. It's a standalone factory with enough space, and it's not far from here, so it won't affect everyone's commute."
After Liu Zhen finished speaking, he handed Jiang Lan a bright red invitation card: "I'm having my wedding on May Day. I might go back to my hometown from time to time in the next two months. Please take on more of the work related to the company relocation and recruitment."
Jiang Lan nodded. He knew before the New Year that Liu Zhen was getting married. The relocation and recruitment were handled by a manager. He just needed to oversee and make the final decision. With people under his command, things would be easier.
How is the company's financial situation?
"I'm planning to hold off on distributing last year's dividends for now. I need to discuss it with the other shareholders. Do you have any objections?"
"I have no objection. Just notify the shareholders' meeting to be held, and the resolution will be passed."
After finishing the business, Liu Zhen relaxed: "I knew you were rich, so you can't be stingy with my wedding."
Jiang Lan leaned back in her chair, pressing the spring-loaded pen cap repeatedly: "No problem, I'll get it back soon anyway, it's just an advance."
"You've only been talking for a short time, and you've already made a decision? You didn't already have a name for the child before you even won him over, did you?"
"Oh."
"By the way, you really can't be my best man?"
"No way. Don't tell me you don't know that best men and bridesmaids cause trouble."
"President Lan, it really doesn't have to be like this. I know you attract many suitors, but you can just bring Xiaoming along."
Jiang Lan simply kept refusing. He was almost dumped by Xiao Ming after a dinner party last year, and he still feels lingering fear.
