Chapter 312 The Banquet (Part 5)

"It was Dr. Li we invited."

Qin Yuan's words reassured Granny Zhao.

Once Zhao Mama calmed down, she felt like crying again. She grabbed Madam Xu and cried out, "Madam, Sixth Madam was so angry with Madam Xu that she vomited blood. Madam Xu said she came to see Sixth Madam about her illness, but she didn't want Sixth Madam to live."

Qin Yuan: "..."

Madam Xu struggled and screamed, spreading her arms and fighting back fiercely, cursing, "You dog servant who spouts nonsense, how dare you smear me like this! I came to see my nun out of kindness, but who knew that she would vomit blood because of your few words. Now you're blaming me in front of Madam. I don't care about my reputation anymore, I'm going to tear you apart and get to the bottom of this."

Granny Zhao didn't care about any of that and just held onto her tightly.

"This old servant no longer cares about rank or status. I've been working hard these past few days to keep it from my master, just because I was afraid he was sick and couldn't handle the anger. Now you've come here specifically to upset me. What's the point of hiding it anymore? Let's just be frank and tear everything apart in front of the madam and the marquis."

This incident immediately diminished Madam Xu's arrogance. She exclaimed, "Don't slander an innocent person! I came here today to kindly visit the nun. Who knew she would vomit blood? If I had known, I wouldn't have said a word. You servant, how do you serve people?"

I was so stunned by the red leaves and the red cotton trees.

Qin Yuan said, "I'll go check on my sixth sister-in-law first."

She didn't bother to mediate the fight, but went around to the inner room, lifted the curtain, and saw Madam Gu lying straight on the canopy bed, her face as pale as paper.

The fruit plate and cups on the bedside table were all overturned, and fruits and snacks were scattered all over the floor. The embroidered stool and chair were also crooked.

Qin Yuan strode forward and quickly reached out to touch Madam Gu's pale face.

Seeing that Madam Gu was still breathing, she breathed a sigh of relief and quickly took Madam Gu's wrist to check her pulse.

By the time Hongye and the others arrived, Qin Yuan had already finished taking their pulses and instructed, "Quickly go and find some moxa sticks."

Hongmian quickly sought out a maid from Madam Gu's courtyard to find some mugwort sticks.

Qin Yuan took the hairpin off her hair and used it as a needle to poke Gu Liu's chest and ears a few times. She then said, "Bring some warm water to wipe Liu's hands and feet. Then, take an inch-long moxa stick, place a slice of ginger on it, and apply it to Liu's tiger's mouth and Taixi acupoints."

Inside the room, chaos reigned, while outside, Madam Xu and Granny Zhao continued their argument.

Qin Yuan frowned: "Tell them to keep their voices down. If the Sixth Madam hears this when she wakes up, she'll be even angrier."

Hongye hurriedly went out to deliver the message, and the noise outside immediately subsided.

Qin Yuan stood guard by the bedside, keeping a close eye on Madam Gu. Before long, Madam Gu let out a soft groan.

"Thankfully, my sixth sister-in-law is about to wake up."

Qin Yuan was relieved, and then hurriedly urged Hongye to go find Granny Zhao and ask for the calming incense pills to be lit quickly.

Soon after, the incense was lit, and the Sixth Madam's breathing gradually calmed down, and her slightly furrowed brows relaxed.

Hongye asked quietly, "Is Sixth Madam alright? She looks much better than before."

Qin Yuan said, "How can she be alright? Her illness can't be aroused; she can't handle extreme joy, anger, or fear. Luckily, I arrived in time, but she can only barely escape with her life. Where is Doctor Li?"

Hongmian quickly replied, "I've already arranged for someone to invite them. If all goes well, they should be here soon."

Qin Yuan glanced at Hong Mian, and Hong Ye said, "Why don't I go ahead and ask again?"

Qin Yuan nodded.

Hongye hurriedly ran out to find Gu Shiliu.

Hongmian helped the embroidered stool up and said softly, "Madam, why don't you sit down and rest for a while?"

Qin Yuan thought for a moment and said, "Forget it, let's go out. Let them clean up here first, so that when Doctor Li comes later, it will look presentable."

There's nothing more she can do for Madam Gu here, so she might as well go outside and see how those two are making a scene.

At this moment, Granny Zhao held onto Madam Xu tightly, saying repeatedly, "If anything happens to my master, I will only take your life in return. After all, I have been driven to the point of not wanting to live by your Xu family."

Madam Xu was terrified and her face turned ashen. She defended herself in a trembling voice, "How was I supposed to know that my sister-in-law's condition had deteriorated to this extent? You, as her servant, didn't say anything earlier. Now that you've caused trouble, you're acting all loyal. Who knows if you're just putting on an act for people to see?"

Granny Zhao is about to have another outburst.

The maids and servants nearby advised, "The madam has come out, so Zhao Mama, please let go. The mistress will take care of everything."

Upon hearing that Qin Yuan had arrived, Granny Zhao finally released her grip, her face full of anticipation, and asked, "Madam, how is the Sixth Madam...?"

Qin Yuan sighed and said, "Sixth Madam has recovered a bit. You know her illness can't withstand any agitation. We'll have to wait for Doctor Li to examine her to know if she's alright."

Zhao Mama sobbed in a low voice, her voice hoarse, "My lady is so pitiful. We were taking good care of her without offending anyone, but her sister-in-law from her maternal family came up to her and made her vomit blood. Her illness is becoming more and more difficult to treat. Please, Madam, do us a favor and seek justice for the Sixth Madam."

Qin Yuan turned to the maids and servants and ordered, "Why aren't you helping Madam Xu change her clothes and wash up again?"

Madam Xu was terribly disheveled and lost all her composure. She cried tremblingly, "I am so ashamed to face anyone now. Granny Zhao has gone too far in bullying me. I beg you, Madam, to give me justice."

Qin Yuan gently comforted her, "Why don't you wash up and change your clothes first, Madam Xu? And Zhao Mama, please tidy up as well. We can deal with it when the Marquis, Lord Xu, and Sixth Master arrive. I was only looking at Sixth Madam just now and I don't know what happened, so I can't make a judgment rashly. Madam Xu, please rest assured that if Zhao Mama is wrong, I will punish her properly."

There are many things hidden here, how can she make the decision? Only when everyone arrives can things be explained clearly.

After coaxing Madam Xu to go wash and change her clothes, Qin Yuan asked, "Granny Zhao, what exactly happened?"

With a mournful face, Granny Zhao said, "Sixth Madam was feeling better after taking Doctor Li's medicine, but unexpectedly, she relapsed after taking the head physician's medicine. However, Sixth Madam always felt that the head physician's medicine was more effective, so she continued to take it. These past two days, she has been feeling a bit tired and has been staying in the courtyard to rest. Who would have thought that Madam Xu would come looking for her, saying that she had come to check on Sixth Madam's condition."

Qin Yuan nodded.

She could roughly guess these things. The most important thing was what Madam Xu had said to Madam Liu that had provoked Madam Liu to the point of vomiting blood.

Granny Zhao continued, "Many stewards in the mansion contributed to the purchase of pepper. Now that the price of pepper has dropped sharply, they dare not approach the Sixth Madam, but instead come to this old servant. This old servant also invested some money, so I went to the Xu family, hoping to get my contribution back as soon as possible, so that I could keep as much as I could. But the Xu family ignored me. This old servant was forced into a corner, and there was nothing I could do."

"But Madam Six had invested a lot of money back then. When Madam Xu told her that the price of pepper outside was dropping and that it couldn't be sold, she complained that she shouldn't have listened to Madam Six and hoarded pepper. She implied that Madam Six should find a way to compensate them for their losses. Madam Six was so anxious that she vomited blood."
