Chapter Seventy-Nine: Lord Gu Invites Her to the Bamboo Forest

Qin Yuan asked, "What do you think of the cold noodles, my husband?"

Gu Jinghui said, "That's right."

Qin Yuan said, "This is what my family loves to make in the summer. What do you think, husband? How about we send some to the main room?"

Gu Jinghui felt a little annoyed: "I forgot that Mother also likes to try new things. Yuan'er is so thoughtful."

With a wife like this, what more could a husband ask for?

Why!

All that's missing is a few children surrounding them.

Lord Gu's gaze toward his young wife grew increasingly direct and passionate.

Qin Yuan instructed Cui Ming, "Have a maid send some cold noodles to the main room so that the old lady and Rong Mama can also try them. Just say that the Marquis ordered it."

Upon hearing this, Cuiming asked somewhat nervously, "Would the old lady approve of it?"

Lord Gu said, "My mother has always liked to try new things. Just send them over. There are many people in the main room. Even though my mother is careful to eat less at night, she will share with others and not waste food."

Cui Ming was relieved and said, "I'll go instead. I've already finished eating."

Qin Yuan said, "Okay, I'll feel more at ease if you go."

Although Cuiming is not as talkative as Hongye, she is always cautious in her words and actions, so she should not make any mistakes.

Qin Yuan thought for a moment and then said, "Send more over, and the lemon drink you made last time was also very delicious. It's so appetizing, the two kids might eat more."

Gu Jinghui was even more satisfied, and couldn't help but think to himself, "Yuan'er's heart is indeed full of me. Although those two children are ignorant, she doesn't mind because of me, and even brings them food and drinks."

Could General Jin really have such a wonderful wife?

If things go well tonight, we might be able to have a child in October.

A child like him and Qin Yuan.

Gu Jinghui's eyes sparkled with anticipation.

After Qin Yuan finished giving her instructions, she turned around and saw Lord Gu staring at the soup bowl in front of him with a smile on his face. His eyes were as bright as jewels, and she wondered what he was thinking about.

Qin Yuan ignored him and focused on eating quietly.

Of all things under heaven, eating is the most important.

After enjoying a delicious meal, Qin Yuan leisurely sipped her fragrant tea by the window, listening to the chirping of insects outside. Hongye came in to serve her and saw Lord Gu looking at his young mistress, who was gazing out the window, seemingly lost in thought.

Hongye: "..."

When Qin Yuan saw her come in, she smiled and said, "The chirping of these insects is so pleasant."

The Marquis's mansion has a large courtyard, so there are more insects there.

Gu Jinghui pricked up his ears to listen.

Hongye said, "Could it be that Madam has recalled a line of poetry?"

Qin Yuan nodded: "Yang Wanli's line, 'Where bamboo grows deep and trees are dense, insects chirp, and a slight coolness comes from the wind,' is very fitting. I was thinking that the chirping of insects in the bamboo grove in the mansion must be even more pleasant than here."

If the couple hadn't spoken openly before, Gu Jinghui would have felt inferior and dared not speak up. But today was different, and he couldn't help but interject, "Sixth Brother also raises a lot of crickets to listen to. He has loved playing with crickets since he was a child and often challenges people to cricket fights, but he always loses. If Father finds out, he gets a good beating."

Qin Yuan: "..."

She thought for a moment and said, "Sixth Master and my younger brothers have similar interests. Heng-ge'er loves to fight crickets behind the adults' backs. Once, he was caught gambling by his father and was punished according to family rules. He was bedridden for several days before he finally stopped."

Gu Jinghui was delighted and racked his brains to think of some interesting things.

Qin Yuan changed the subject and asked him, "When will the Marquis go to the camp to report for duty tomorrow?"

Lord Gu couldn't help but sigh, "We have to go very early in the morning."

His narrow eyes glanced at Qin Yuan seemingly unintentionally, as if he wanted to see her but couldn't bear to leave her.

Qin Yuan said, "Husband, is there anything you want to say to Mother and Granny Rong? You probably need to say a few words to comfort those two children. I heard from Granny Rong that Mother has put the two children in the main room so that Zhao Niangzi can focus on her recovery."

Lord Gu glanced at Qin Yuan and said, "Would you like to come with me? We can go to the bamboo forest and listen to the insects chirping."

Upon hearing this, Qin Yuan was taken aback.

Her poetic inspiration had been interrupted by Lord Gu, so she wanted to send him to the old lady's place to explain everything that needed to be explained. This would take about ten days, and she didn't know when Gu Shiliu would return. If Zhao Niangzi and her son caused any more trouble, she wouldn't care.

Unexpectedly, Lord Gu still remembered the insect chirping in the bamboo forest she mentioned.

This is someone who will take her words to heart.

A gentle smile appeared on Qin Yuan's lips as she said, "Husband, the shopkeepers of several stores only delivered the account books this afternoon—several thick volumes. You also need to give those two children a proper talking-to. I think it's better if I don't go."

Lord Gu felt it was a pity.

He couldn't explain what he regretted, but he was unwilling to go alone, leaving his young wife here to do the accounts.

"Would you like me to take over the household accounts?"

Qin Yuan's smile widened, and she said, "No need, husband, please go quickly. I have something to discuss with you when you return."

Lord Gu couldn't help but reach out and gently stroke Qin Yuan's cheek, his expression softening further as he said, "Alright, you wait for me."

After he left, Hongye just smiled as she looked at Qin Yuan.

Qin Yuan said, "Do you have anything important to do? If not, bring me today's account books. You need to learn how to read account books too. The tea room's account books are even more detailed than the sewing room's."

Hongye let out a wail, slumped her shoulders, and went to the outer room to find Cuiming to get the account book.

Cui Ming returned with a smile after delivering the cold noodles.

Seeing this, Hongye asked, "Did you receive any reward?"

Cuiming nodded, stretched out her hand, and showed the bracelet on her wrist to Hongye. It was a jade bracelet with an ordinary pattern, but it was still worth several dozen taels of silver.
