Chapter Sixty-Two: Could it be that she wants to consummate the marriage?

That's a thought-provoking statement.

Hongye was furious and was about to speak.

Cuiming quickly pulled her away.

Hongye continued to glare at Zhao Niangzi with an unfriendly expression.

Seeing their mother crying like this, the two children rushed over, shoving Qin Yuan aside, and clung to Gu Jinghui's legs, crying out, "Father, do you really not want us anymore?"

Normally, Gu Jinghui would have already picked up the two children and comforted them.

But he had just heard such a terrible story at the Qin family and was still shaken. He was determined to distance himself from Zhao Niangzi and her son. Upon hearing this, he hurriedly said to Zhao Niangzi, "Sister-in-law, what are Cheng Ge'er and Yu Jie'er saying? I chased away a maid, and they said I didn't want them anymore. Do they think I'm not even as good as a maid?"

Zhao Niangzi was stunned.

This was completely different from what she had expected.

Zhao Niangzi was deeply shocked and too saddened to speak, only choking back sobs.

Qin Yuan was accidentally bumped and stumbled. Hongye and Cuiming rushed forward to support her. Her ankle was twisted and hurt a little, so she couldn't help but gasp.

Gu Jinghui looked at her anxiously and asked, "Yuan'er, is something wrong?"

"It's alright."

Gu Jinghui, with a stern face, lowered his head to the two children clinging to his legs and said solemnly, "Brother Cheng, Sister Yu, she is my lawfully wedded wife, I am your godfather, and she is your godmother. I had planned to find a good day for you to pay your respects to your godmother, but you were always sick, so we missed it. You bumped into her, so apologize quickly. From now on, she and I will love you both."

Upon hearing this, the two children looked at Qin Yuan with resentment and anger.

Yu Jie'er screamed, "Father, I only want Father and Mother, I don't want her. I don't like her, you don't want her."

Although Cheng Ge'er didn't say anything, he clearly thought the same thing as her.

Gu Jinghui angrily retorted, "How dare you speak like that?"

Yu Jie'er had never been scolded by Gu Jinghui before, so she immediately screamed in grievance and burst into tears.

Cheng Ge'er then started crying as well.

Zhao Niangzi didn't try to comfort or console her; she just stood aside and silently shed tears.

Qin Yuan: "..."

She thought for a moment and said, "I still have some ointment I can use, so I'll go in first. Husband, please take good care of them."

After saying that, without waiting for Gu Jinghui's reply, she helped Cuiming and Hongye away.

Left behind, Gu Jinghui stared blankly as Qin Yuan's back entered the gate of Wutong Garden.

This, this, this...

Hongye, supporting Qin Yuan, was trembling with anger. After walking a short distance, she said angrily, "This family is simply unreasonable. The young ones are ignorant, and the old ones are shameless."

Cui Ming was also quite angry, saying, "That Zhao lady spoke as if the Marquis had wronged her. Anyone who didn't know better would think they were a family of four. No one else could even get in the way."

This was the first time Cuiming had said something like that.

It's clear he was quite angry.

Qin Yuan said dismissively, "Judging from this display, the Marquis will have a lot of trouble with them in the future."

But the more this is the case, the more we need to send them away.

Otherwise, there will be endless troubles.

Hongye said, "Miss shouldn't have left. She should have let the Marquis carry her back, leaving that Zhao lady helpless."

He held back for a while, but couldn't help it any longer, and spat out, "You shameless woman. Even your child is behaving recklessly. What kind of five or six-year-old child talks and acts like that? He has no manners at all, he's no different from a barbarian, and he goes around saying that he's the Marquis's child. He's a disgrace to the Marquis."

Qin Yuan quickly reassured them, saying, "Alright, alright. They are the sons of the Marquis's benefactor and grew up in the northern military camp, so it's understandable that they are a bit rough around the edges."

Before he could finish speaking, he felt a lightness in his body and heard several exclamations in his ears.

Once she calmed down, Gu Jinghui had already pulled her into his arms, her head resting on his shoulder. A faint smell of alcohol wafted into her nostrils, and then she heard Gu Jinghui say, "Why didn't you wait for me? How are you going to walk with a sprained ankle?"

Qin Yuan looked behind him in surprise and saw that Zhao Niangzi, looking dazed, was standing under the lantern outside the Wutong Garden with two crying children, staring intently at them.

"Are you just going to abandon them?"

"What do I care?" Gu Jinghui wondered to himself.

If she were to interfere, wouldn't that girl Hongye go around saying a whole bunch of bad things about her?

You know what, that girl was right, he should have taken her back.

Qin Yuan gently nudged him and asked, "What exactly are they here for?"

Lord Gu stiffened. "For the sake of that girl named Bai Que, I spoke out today that Bai Que should leave the manor. Madam Zhao said that the two children like Bai Que and can't bear to part with her, so she begged me not to blame Bai Que."

Hongye scoffed at it.

This doesn't seem like she's here for Bai Que at all; it seems more like she's here to steal her husband. But with Gu Jinghui here, she can't say anything, no matter how fast she tries, and can only keep it to herself.

Qin Yuan said, "I'm afraid Bai Que's family also went to beg Mother. When I went to the main room, Mother was worried about it."

Seeing that Qin Yuan was no longer pressing him about his relationship with Zhao Niangzi, he felt much more at ease and said, "Bai Que's parents are very capable; they manage the family's treasury. Two smart people, yet they raised such a stupid girl. This Bai Que must not be allowed to live; not only is she clueless, but she also stirs up trouble."

Standing outside Wutongyuan in this sweltering heat to ambush him—who are they trying to annoy?

“Brother Cheng and Sister Yu are usually very well-behaved. Perhaps Bai Que spoke ill of you to them, which is why they acted this way. I will teach them a lesson when I get back and make them apologize to you.”

Seeing that he was still trying his best to repair her relationship with them, Qin Yuan had a headache, but as Gu Jinghui's wife, she could only accept it.

She couldn't possibly hold a grudge against her two children; that would make her seem petty.

Qin Yuan said, "Let's talk about it later. I don't think you can persuade them."

The one who speaks ill of them is probably their own mother.

Her relationship with them is doomed.

Gu Jinghui had drunk some wine, holding the delicate beauty in his arms, her fragrance lingering around his nose, his heart pounding faster and faster, and he whispered in a hoarse voice, "If I persuade them, what will you do?"

Qin Yuan glanced at Gu Jinghui and said, "What else can we do? Just be a good godmother."

Gu Jinghui hummed in agreement, and after a long pause, said, "Don't worry, I won't do anything stupid."

Qin Yuan chuckled softly, "Okay."

Gu Jinghui was fast on his feet. Carrying Qin Yuan, he left Cui Ming and Hong Ye far behind. As they crossed the covered bridge, he couldn't help but mischievously blow a breath into Qin Yuan's ear.

Qin Yuan turned her head and met Lord Gu's eyes. Under the light of the ram's horn lanterns hanging from the eaves, they were so dark and bright that they seemed to be sucking her in. Her heart couldn't help but tremble slightly.

Could it be that the Marquis is planning to consummate the marriage?

She hurriedly said, "Madam Zhao is waiting for you with her two children. You should at least explain things clearly, lest she block the way with her children and cause a scene, which would be unsightly."

Although the words were spoken cryptically, both of them understood that even if they were to be asked to leave the mansion, they couldn't afford to break off all ties.
