Qin Yuan and her two maids exchanged glances, wondering what Gu Shiliu had said to anger Lord Gu.
She thought for a moment, then stood up and said, "Now that the Marquis is awake, I'll go over and see him, and ask him if he'd like to have a meal together."
Hongye chuckled.
Cuiming asked, "What are you laughing at?"
"I wonder how the Marquis and Miss will dine together."
Qin Yuan couldn't help but curl her lips into a smile. Although the excuse was a bit perfunctory, she still had to go.
Since her husband had been in a coma for so long, she, as his wife, had to go and inquire about him to show her concern.
Let me mention a few other things as well.
In her previous life, she was not entirely unaware of the affair between Zhao Niangzi and Gu Jinghui.
Qin Wan couldn't keep a secret; being spoiled and pampered, she made a scene that became known throughout the city.
Every time her stepmother came to visit, she would complain again.
She thought that Zhao Niangzi and Gu Jinghui were already in love, but after Qin Wan exposed their relationship, it became known throughout the city. Gu Jinghui then decided to take Zhao Niangzi as his concubine.
Now it seems that's not entirely true.
However, no matter what, she didn't care if Gu Jinghui wanted to take a concubine, but it absolutely couldn't be Zhao Niangzi.
She and Madam Gu shared the same view on this point.
Qin Yuan reached the outside of the side room and asked, "Is my husband awake?"
"He's awake." Gu Jinghui's voice carried an unmistakable panic.
"Husband, may I come in and have a look?" Qin Yuan's voice was gentle, making it impossible for anyone to refuse.
Through the door, Gu Jinghui's helpless reply came: "...Okay, fine."
Qin Yuan pushed open the door and walked in.
Gu Jinghui was lying shirtless on the bamboo couch, covered with a thin gauze blanket. Broken porcelain shards and tea stems were scattered all over the blue brick floor, making it impossible to walk.
Seeing her stunned expression, Gu Jinghui hurriedly explained, "This isn't me, cough cough, Sixteen just poured me water and accidentally bumped into it. He's just clumsy, he's been like this since he was little, there's nothing we can do about it."
The clumsy Gu Shiliu silently took on all the burdens.
Qin Yuan covered her mouth with a handkerchief and laughed, "Of course I know it's not the Marquis. Isn't the Marquis still recovering from his injuries?"
Gu Shiliu: "..."
Gu Jinghui said, "Yes, yes, I...I...my injury is just a minor one, don't worry about me."
Qin Yuan said, "I'm not worried. Physician Li said that the Marquis is in good health and will be fine after three to five days of rest."
Gu Jinghui's eyes were full of disbelief, but he said, "Yes, just do what you're supposed to do. I'll go back to the main house in a few days."
Qin Yuan: "..."
Hongye had already called someone in to clean up. The little maid quickly gathered up the broken porcelain pieces and tea leaves on the ground, wiped the floor again, and only then could you barely walk on it.
Qin Yuan walked in and saw that Gu Shiliu's trouser legs were wet, so she said, "Why don't you let Shiliu go and change his clothes? I heard from Hongye that he hasn't eaten yet, so he's probably hungry."
Gu Jinghui quickly said, "Go, go quickly."
Gu Shiliu quickly retreated.
Gu Jinghui then added loudly, "I'll come back later."
Qin Yuan understood that the matter had not been finished and she had been interrupted by her.
"Would the Marquis like to dine with me?"
Gu Jinghui shook his head and said, "It's not convenient. Madam, please go back and have your meal first. Once I'm better, I'll dine with you every day."
Seeing that he was in a hurry for her to leave, Qin Yuan smiled and said, "Alright, Yuan'er will go back first. If my husband needs someone to feed him, just let me know."
Gu Jinghui quickly explained, "I grew up in the military camp, so I'm not this delicate. My injuries were much more serious before, and I had to ride a horse and chase the enemy for hundreds of miles a day. I'm recuperating like this just so my mother won't worry. My mother was angry with me, but the longer I lay in bed, the less angry she became, and she started to feel sorry for me instead."
Qin Yuan nodded with a forced smile, and said, "These past two days, I suppose my husband's two adopted sons are feeling better. I haven't seen Zhao Niangzi send anyone to look for them. Today, my mother asked me to help my sixth sister-in-law manage the household. If Fengxuan Pavilion needs anything, just say so, and I can act accordingly."
After saying that, she glanced at Gu Jinghui's expression and saw that he looked embarrassed and seemed to not want to mention it at all. Qin Yuan felt that she was pretty sure she had guessed it.
Gu Jinghui said with displeasure, "No need. She is a guest at Fengxuan Pavilion with her child. Her husband is my benefactor. My mother will take it to heart and will never let them go."
During their conversation, they never mentioned again the idea of getting close to Qin Yuan and the two children.
Qin Yuan said, "Then my husband should rest first. I'm going back to the main room. After lunch, I still need to talk to my sixth sister-in-law."
Gu Jinghui breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said, "Then you go ahead and do your work, don't worry about me."
After Qin Yuan left the room, she instructed the maid outside, "Quickly send the Marquis a pot of his favorite tea."
Inside the room, Gu Jinghui chuckled softly and whispered smugly, "Yuan'er is so considerate, she even said she wasn't worried about me."
A short while later, Gu Shiliu, who had already changed his clothes and eaten, came in carrying a food box and said, "Master, it's time to get up and have your meal."
Gu Jinghui then got up, put on his undergarments, and stood in front of the table, moving his chopsticks rapidly, clearly also very hungry.
Gu Shiliu said, "Hongye, who serves Madam, keeps asking me those same questions. Would you like to find an opportunity to explain them to Madam?"
Gu Jinghui put down his chopsticks and said, puzzled, "What's there to explain? I've done nothing wrong, and this is completely baseless. If I explain, won't she start asking about everything from now on?"
Several of his lieutenant generals had told him that after getting married, he couldn't let his wife control him, otherwise he would lose his authority and be on his knees.
