Chapter 5, 005

Perhaps she was too exhausted in the morning and had no strength left. When Wen's mother woke up in the afternoon, she was quite quiet. After asking if Wen He was there, she ate dinner quietly without saying a word, and then went to bed again.

The nurse had never seen Mother Wen so quiet. After all, she had been hysterical more often since she was hospitalized. As soon as Wen He returned to the hospital, the nurse couldn't help but tell her about Mother Wen's condition, which made Wen He worried for a while. But by then, Mother Wen had already fallen asleep. Wen He couldn't bear to disturb her, so she could only tiptoe over to pull the quilt over her and carefully wipe the sweat off her forehead.

Mother Wen seemed to be really tired and slept soundly that night. Wen He stayed by her bedside all night, but Mother Wen did not wake up. Until the morning, she was still sleeping soundly with her eyes closed.

But Wen He couldn't stay in the hospital for too long. She had to rush to the market to buy some seeds to cultivate the field in front of the old house and get a source of income first.

After cutting the two cantaloupes into pieces of easy-to-eat size, Wen He placed them in front of his mother's bed. Seeing his mother still looking tired, Wen He couldn't help but gently kiss her on the face before quietly walking out of the ward.

However, what Wen He didn't know was that the moment she turned around, her mother's eyes couldn't help but become moist. She stared blankly at the carefully cut cantaloupe placed beside the bed for a long time, and then, with moist eyes, she ate all the cantaloupe, one bite after another, without leaving any.

It was ten o'clock in the morning. To be honest, Wen He arrived a little late, and the market was about to close. Fortunately, because of her previous work on her orchard, Wen He had come to this market many times, and she bought the seeds she wanted easily. This time, Wen He bought a lot of seeds, more than ten kinds.

Wen He was an old customer, and the proprietress was particularly enthusiastic. Seeing that Wen He bought a lot this time, she readily gave him a 95% discount. When he was about to leave, the proprietress suddenly thought of something and stopped Wen He to ask her to wait. After a while, she asked the worker to drag over a dozen saplings.

"These are longan and lychee saplings. Look, haven't we recently started supplying fruit saplings in our store? There are always some defective products that have to be picked out in a batch of goods. These saplings are still alive and well, but they are a little wilted, or have a lot of broken branches. Customers don't like them, and it would be a pity to throw them away. Since you are messing around with the orchard, you might want to take some home and plant them. The boss lady won't charge you. Just patronize us more in the future. They can be sent over with this batch of goods."

What the proprietress said was the truth. Those saplings did look a bit shabby. It seemed that they had been handled too roughly during transportation. Many branches were broken, and some were even left with only a bare trunk. They were particularly ugly. Moreover, due to the lack of water and nutrients for a long time, the tips of the saplings were indeed a bit wilted. They did not look in very good condition, but they were not completely uncultivable.

Wen He had never tried planting saplings before, but the proprietress's kindness was hard to refuse, so Wen He agreed. He was about to write down the address and contact information of the old house, but suddenly remembered that the old house was shrouded in white fog and he might not be able to get in. Wen He changed it to the address of the small village and would transport the trees there himself when the time came.

After buying the seeds, Wen He also bought some daily necessities and planned to go back and buy some more. She estimated that she would live in the old house for a long time. When passing by the fruit shop and seeing the round, big, fresh and expensive tomatoes, Wen He paused. She couldn't help but think of the big rooster in the old house. She touched her wallet and gritted her teeth and bought a pound of tomatoes with great pain.

When Wen He turned back, the seeds and saplings had just been delivered. After a quick count and finding no problem with the number, the deliveryman delivered the goods and left. Fortunately, apart from the saplings, the other seeds and other items were not heavy, so Wen He could still carry them back to the old house by himself. However, it would take some effort to find the way back to the old house, and Wen He couldn't help but feel a headache thinking about it.

However, what she didn't expect was that just as she approached the white fog, Wen He saw a very familiar shadow squatting in the middle of the road, looking at Wen He with its head tilted, making an dissatisfied "grunt", as if saying that Wen He was too slow and it had been squatting here for a long time.

This shadow was none other than the majestic rooster. Suddenly, Wen He was filled with indescribable surprise.

But before Wen He had time to think about it, she felt warmth under her feet. When she lowered her head, she found that the little yellow chickens had gathered around her feet without her knowing when.

It was obvious that this big rooster was not a chicken. These little yellow chickens seemed to have just huddled in the fluffy feathers of the big rooster. When they heard the noise, they swarmed over with their little black eyes blinking, chirping and surrounding Wen He's feet. It seemed that since they knew yesterday that Wen He had no ill will towards them, they had developed a strong curiosity about Wen He, and they tried their best to circle around Wen He with their fluffy little bodies like little meatballs.

Who could bear such a scene? At least Wen He couldn't bear it at all. He endured it for a while, but finally couldn't bear it anymore. He stretched out his hand and hugged the bunch of plush little yellow chickens in his arms. He remembered the small tomatoes he had bought before, so he took out a few and planned to feed them. However, he never expected that the group of little yellow chickens turned their heads away with disgust and refused to touch them at all.

It was impossible for her to dislike cherry tomatoes. She had just seen them huddled together yesterday, vying for a bite. Could it be that they weren't delicious? But these were the most expensive cherry tomatoes in the fruit shop. When she bought them, there were quite a few other people buying them, all praising their deliciousness. So she gritted her teeth and bought a pound.

Wen He was thinking about this and subconsciously wiped a small tomato and put it in his mouth.

Sure enough, this cherry tomato is not delicious. No, or to put it another way, this cherry tomato is not actually bad. At least it is one of the better cherry tomatoes on the market. But after eating the cherry tomatoes grown by Wen He himself, in comparison, you will feel that this cherry tomato is not delicious at all. It does not have the unique sweet and sour taste of cherry tomatoes.

Wen He had not noticed this before, and he just subconsciously thought that the tomatoes grown at home were always more fragrant than those grown outside. But now it seems that this is not the case. This discovery made Wen He a little excited. After rushing back to the old house, he ignored everything and took a bag of cherry tomato seeds and went to the field where the weeds had been removed.
