Chapter Twenty: The First Crime Scene

Although this grown man has a lot on his plate these days, a living person can't be killed by needing to pee.

Jiang Yu took out his phone, snapped a picture of the man, and said, "I remember there's a public restroom downstairs, you can go there."

When the man saw the police taking his picture, he panicked. Would the police misunderstand and think he was trying to run away? He explained, "Officer, I'll be back soon."

Jiang Yu watched the man rush downstairs, then walked to the window and watched him run down the stairs. She took out her phone and texted Li Zhiyi: "Are you bored in the car?"

After waiting for a while without a reply, he thought for a moment and called her, but no one answered. What was she doing? Why wasn't she replying to his texts or answering his calls? As a police officer, his intuition told him that something was definitely wrong.

When Jiang Yu got to the car, he saw that Li Zhiyi was nowhere to be seen.

Where could she go? Didn't we tell her not to wander around? The people living here are too mixed, and the safety level isn't high.

The unease grew stronger, and just then the middle-aged man came out of the restroom and saw Jiang Yu. "Hey, officer, I'm here. I didn't run away, hehe."

"Okay, let's take a walk around this neighborhood." Actually, Jiang Yu wanted to look for Li Zhiyi in the neighborhood, but after searching all over, she couldn't find her. Where could she have gone?

Just then, his phone rang. His colleague arrived, and he took the man back to the sixth floor where the murder case was being investigated. They began taking notes, and the forensic doctor who performed the autopsy also arrived. Everyone got busy.

When Jiang Yu saw that Officer Li had also arrived, he, being a meticulous person, instructed him, "Xiao Li, I'm leaving this to you. I have some errands to run."

"Yes, Captain, I guarantee I'll complete the mission." Xiao Li was very happy, which meant that his captain trusted him and had entrusted him with this task.

On the other side, Li Zhiyi followed the man to an abandoned building. The man led her to a room on the fifth floor. Seeing that she had actually followed him, a wicked look of triumph appeared in his eyes.

As soon as Li Zhi entered the fifth floor, which had no address, he was hit by a strong smell of blood, which assaulted his senses. The curtains here, though dirty and worn, were dark-colored and drawn tightly, making the room feel very oppressive! If nothing unexpected happened, this was the primary crime scene.

The man turned and went into the kitchen of the house, carrying an iron chain in one hand and a large machete in the other, a machete that could easily chop human bones, far more effective than a dagger.

He thought the beautiful woman would be terrified and beg for mercy upon seeing this, but Li Zhiyi didn't react at all!

The man laughed loudly, "Little beauty, today is your death day. It's all your fault for being too foolish and easily believing strangers. You'd better be smarter in your next life!"

"You want to kill me?"

"What do you think? I'm not just going to kill you, I'm going to torture you first, hehehe, look at your delicate skin, it must be so much fun to play with you!" The man couldn't wait to tie Li Zhi up.

The talisman in Li Zhiyi's hand flew out, and the man froze in place, unable to move. The man's eyes revealed terror.

He stammered, "Who...who exactly are you?"

"This is the place where you killed people, isn't it?"

The man was surprised by the woman's intelligence and immediately begged for mercy, saying, "Beautiful lady, let's talk this out. I was just joking with you. How could I possibly want to kill you? I'm a good person."

Li Zhi ignored him and wandered around. The resentment here was too strong, and there was more than one wronged soul. It seemed that this man did not know that people had died here before.

Li Zhi threw out three Soul-Chasing Talismans. "Come out."

"Ah! Ah! Ah!" Three sharp screams rang out, making everyone's ears ring.

Three grotesque faces suddenly appeared in front of Li Zhiyi. The oldest one was the most disgusting, with one eye empty and the other eyeball drooping on its face as if about to fall out. Its mouth was covered in blood, and its face had many burns and knife marks, clearly indicating that it had suffered inhuman torture in its previous life.

"Please, Master, spare my life! I have been trapped here for thirty years after being framed. Please, Master, help me!" The woman cried as blood and tears streamed down her face.

The other two ghosts were a child ghost and a seven or eight-year-old boy who looked very timid. He had been dead for fifteen years and must have been enslaved by this female ghost, which is why he was so timid and kept his head down without saying a word.

There was also a young girl, who appeared to be a newly deceased soul, not yet having passed the seventh day after her death.

"You're the woman who just died. This gold necklace is yours, isn't it?"

"It's mine. It was my birthday present from my boyfriend. Waaah, my boyfriend still doesn't know I'm dead. He must think I don't love him anymore. I'm so heartbroken! Master, I died such a terrible death! Please, Master, help me."

The poor woman who had just died was Zhang Dandan. Zhang Dandan kept crying and still couldn't accept the fact that she was dead.

"I will perform a ritual to help you pass on to the afterlife. As for whether you can be reincarnated and what you will be in your next life, that depends on your own destiny. As for the person who harmed you, he will be punished by the laws of the mortal world while he is alive, and he will also be punished by the judges of the underworld after he dies. Go in peace."

"Master Duoxiang," the group said in unison.

Li Zhi recited the Rebirth Mantra for the several wronged spirits, and soon felt their resentment dissipate. It seemed that these ghosts were not beyond redemption; they just hadn't found a chance to leave, which was why they harbored resentment.

Only then did Li Zhizhi remember to call Jiang Yu. He took out his phone and saw that there were several missed calls and several text messages.

Li Zhi immediately called back, and the call was answered instantly.

"Zhiyi, where are you? Why aren't you answering the phone?"

“I found a murderer; we’re on the fifth floor of that abandoned building.”

"Hide quickly, whatever you do, don't let him find you, I'm coming right now." In that instant, Jiang Yu considered many bad possibilities. If she were discovered by bad guys, she would be in great danger.

"I'm fine, but he can't move right now. Please come quickly."

Li Zhiyi's casual words left Jiang Yu confused. What did she mean by "he can't move"? Was he injured? Could she subdue a thug? Did she have martial arts training, or was she a black belt in Muay Thai?

Jiang Yu rushed to the abandoned building. The stairs had no handrails and were shaky to walk on. Judging from the scene before him, it was indeed the perfect crime scene.
