Chapter Forty-Eight: The Strange Fish Has Disappeared

No wonder the manager delayed the meal until 10 o'clock, even though it was supposed to start at 8 o'clock. The big fish had escaped!

"Meow." Little White meowed at the big monster fish, and the monster fish immediately stood up and assumed a defensive posture.

Li Zhiyi found this strange fish very strange. Could it be that it had become a spirit? It could escape after leaving the water source and even knew how to hide. This was definitely not an ordinary big fish!

In the shark tank in the back garden, a huge, strange fish was faintly visible. Perhaps the fish was too big, because its entire body could not be submerged in the tank, and only half of its head was exposed.

The giant fish glanced at Li Zhiyi and Xiaobai, maintaining its attack posture.

Li Zhi threw talismans into the pool, and the strange fish, having nowhere to hide, leaped onto the ground. Only then did Li Zhi see clearly that this large, strange fish was seven or eight feet long and entirely red. Li Zhi recalled a book she had once read, a book called the "Strange Tales," which described this kind of fish as the Henggong Fish.

The Henggong fish originates from a strange fish in Chinese mythology, specifically from the *Shenyi Jing* (Classic of Strange Things) {Northern Wilderness Classic}. Legend has it that in the northern wilderness lies a stone lake, a thousand li in circumference, with a depth of over five zhang (approximately 10 meters). The fish dwells in the lake during the day and transforms into human form at night, impervious to swords and spears, and cannot be killed by boiling. However, it is cooked by boiling it with two dried plums, and eating it can cure evil diseases.

Li Zhiyi walked up to the giant fish and said, "I know you can understand me. How were you captured by humans?" This was Li Zhiyi's biggest question. Logically speaking, fish that can transform into human form should have magical powers and should be difficult for humans to capture!

The giant fish looked at Li Zhiyi and slowly said, "Daoist, please save Yu Feier."

Li Zhiyi had only guessed at first, but he never expected that it could actually talk, and that it was actually a mermaid with such a soft voice.

"Your name is Yu Feier, right? Do you have any companions?"

"Well, the day before yesterday, our family held a coming-of-age banquet at the bottom of the sea. The banquet was to test our courage and bravery. I had just come of age and was happily dancing on the surface of the sea with my girlfriends. But suddenly a whirlwind came up, and the wind was so strong that I couldn't stand up. My girlfriends all ran away in panic. I was hit on the head by a huge rock blown up by the wind and I passed out. When the morning light came out, I turned back into a big fish and was stranded on the shore. Then I was caught by the fishermen."

Thinking of this, Yu Feier shuddered. The fishermen who captured her were all more vicious than the last. They not only beat her violently, but also used a lot of anesthetic on her. She needed to return to the sea to heal her wounds because she had been out of the water for too long. She couldn't use her magic power at all and couldn't transform back into human form!

"Master, please save me, I will repay you."

She dreamed that her brothers would find her, but she also knew how cruel humans were! If her brothers were captured by humans, they would surely be turned into food and eaten, so she never sent out a distress signal.

"If you trust me, I can get you out of here."

Yu Feier happily swayed her fish tail, causing ripples to spread across the pool: "I believe you, Daoist Master, I know you are a good person."

Li Zhi originally didn't want to meddle, but these humans were willing to harm living beings for a bite of food, and besides, this fish Fei'er was no ordinary fish.

Instead, she is a member of a large family. If she dies, the fishermen will inevitably face retaliation from Yu Fei'er's family when they go fishing, and even more people will likely die.

Hearing footsteps behind him, Li Zhiyi quickly hid in the bushes nearby, while Yu Feier cleverly submerged herself in the pool.

I don't know if this person just didn't notice or if it was because it was dark. After all, the back garden wasn't as bright as the front hall, and there were only a few dim streetlights, which created this kind of atmosphere.

This crocodile pool is usually deserted; people only come when someone specifically requests to eat crocodiles. This morning, three crocodiles were already caught.

As soon as everyone left, Li Zhi hurriedly took out a small glass bottle from her bosom, poured some water into the pool, and then threw a talisman into the glass bottle.

"Come in."

"I'm so big, and this bottle is so small, how am I supposed to get in, Taoist priest?"

"You'll see once you try it."

Although Yu Feier was somewhat worried that Li Zhiyi was lying to her, she still chose to believe him. After all, she didn't see any malice in him. If he wanted to harm her, he could have arrested her now.

Yu Feier did a somersault and actually got into the glass bottle. Unexpectedly, she actually got into such a small bottle.

Moreover, she didn't feel crowded at all inside the bottle; on the contrary, the air was refreshing. She swam happily in the water, becoming even more convinced that the Taoist priest in front of her was a good person and that his magic was very powerful.

Just as they finished all that, someone spotted Li Zhiyi. Several Chinese people had arrived, looking as if they were searching for something. They were all shining bright flashlights at Li Zhiyi's face: "Who are you? What are you doing at the crocodile pool?"

“I’ve come to find my cat.” Li Zhiyi stroked the white cat in his arms.

The group glanced at her and saw that she was indeed holding a small white kitten. Moreover, this young lady was so beautiful that she couldn't be lying. Without any suspicion, they immediately urged her to leave, saying, "Miss, please leave here quickly. There are crocodiles here, it's very dangerous!"

"Okay, thank you."

Li Zhiyi returned to the lobby on the 25th floor. When Gu Nianzhi saw her sister-in-law return, she hurriedly pushed a plate of uneaten small cakes towards her: "Sister-in-law, I got you some strawberry-flavored small cakes. Where were you just now? Why were you gone for so long?"

"Okay, I'm going to the restroom."

Looking at the small cake in front of him, Li Zhiyi took a few bites, then remembered that Xiaobai had never eaten a small cake before, so he immediately woke up the sleeping Xiaobai: "Xiaobai, try this, it's delicious."

Little White had just smelled a cloyingly sweet aroma, and since its owner said it was delicious, it reluctantly decided to give it a try.

After just one bite, Xiaobai's eyes widened, clearly pleased.

She quickly finished the small plate of cake and meowed at Li Zhiyi.

"You still want to eat?"

"Xiaobai, I'll go get it for you. Sister-in-law, you can rest here." Gu Nianzhi liked Xiaobai very much, so this was a golden opportunity to please Xiaobai, and she naturally wouldn't let it pass.

"Miss Li, don't wander around here, it's dangerous," Chen Zhihe kindly reminded her.
