Yuxianwan

Yuxianwan

The errand boy Xiaohua left with a whoosh again, which made Zhou Qianling feel better.

After putting on his clothes, scarf and hat, Zhou Qianling stood up and walked out of the living room. When he arrived at the swallow's nest (the area between the two facing doors of a tiled house, in front of the main hall, with the same width as the main hall), the sounds of coughing and bragging in the other room became louder.

Zhou Qianling looked at the sky. It was only a little before six o'clock, and it was already dark, but she could still see clearly. She wanted to go to her aunt's house to talk to her mother, but for some reason she chose the other side at the fork in the road.

Standing at the door of the noodle shop, Zhou Qianling sighed. As expected, the shop was closed, but maybe it was not open at all today.

Sometimes, I have to sigh at Wu Meilai’s willfulness.

Because the Chinese New Year is approaching, lights are turned on in front of every house, and those who don’t have lights outside their doors will hang lanterns, so even if it is completely dark, the streets are still bright.

Zhou Qianling was not in a hurry to go back. He walked slowly along the road to relax. Before he knew it, he had left the village and arrived at the lotus pond in Yuxianwan.

From a distance, with the dim light from her cell phone, she saw a person sitting by the pool, with his legs bent and chin resting on his knees, and his hands covering his legs and belly.

Zhou Qianling was surprised, but found that she was in a bad mood, so he slowly walked behind her.

Wu Meilai heard the noise, but ignored it and looked at the lake, wondering what she was thinking.

The footsteps stopped, but the passerby didn't leave. Instead, he stood for a while and walked closer to her. Before Wu Meilai turned around, she smelled a pleasant smell.

A little surprised.

"Why are you here in Yuxianwan?" She looked around, but her mother and aunts were not around.

Zhou Qianling sat down next to her, felt very cold, and stood up again.

"I was bored and came out for a walk. I didn't expect you to be here too." She said jokingly, "We are really destined to be together."

Wu Mei moved her butt to make half the space for her, then turned around and pointed at a light on the hillside behind her and said, "It's not a coincidence, my home is right there."

Zhou Qianling glanced at it, secretly wrote down the address, then looked at the mat she had given up and said with a smile, "Do you often come down to see the lotus flowers?" After that, he sat on it without any hesitation, and sat closely with Wu Meilai.

"Yeah." Wu Meilai felt a little awkward and moved to the side. Then a hand grabbed her waist from behind and hugged her back.

Wu Meilai's heart beat slightly faster, but she did not withdraw her hand from her waist. Instead, she relaxed and slid it down along her waistline and rested on her ilium.

Is this normal?

Wu Meilai thought to herself, thinking about Zhou Qianling's actions while also examining her own accelerated heartbeat.

It's normal for girls to be intimate with each other...right?

As for her heartbeat, she knew it was just because she hadn't been close to anyone for a long time and was too nervous.

The hand on her waist didn't seem to want to leave. Wu Meilai sat up straight and forced herself to ignore the slight weight.

Zhou Qianling seemed unaware. He turned sideways, bent his right leg, supported his right hand on it, and looked at her with his chin supported.

The increased distance made the fingers at her waist bend and fingered Wu Meilai's clothes, which was very itchy, causing the nerves under her skin to shrink and even her spine to stiffen.

"Why are you staring at me again?" Wu Meilai was a little annoyed, but when she spoke, her tone was strange, like anger and blame, in short, it didn't sound like a scolding.

"There seems to be something on your face." Zhou Qianling smiled and tapped his cheek with his index finger.

Wu Meilai wiped her cheekbones according to her instructions, but there was nothing. Seeing that the other party seemed to want to do it herself, she wiped her face randomly and did rub off some unwashed mud.

After rubbing it in the snow, Wu Meilai hunched her back in frustration, and the unknown emotions in her heart dissipated a lot.

"Bad mood?"

Wu Meilai raised her lips and looked at the water. The dark brown lotus stems were swaying in the night wind.

"Do you know the origin of Yuxianwan?"

Zhou Qianling suppressed his smile, looked at her quietly, and listened attentively.

"I heard from the elders that this place was originally called the Foot of the Mountain Bend because there were many fairies here. Some couples who were having problems with sex would bring a fairy home from here. Over time, it became the Encountering Fairy Bend."

A cold wind blew, and Zhou Qianling shivered as he looked at the lotus pond.

"I asked the old man why the fairy liked this place."

"The old man said that this is where fairies return to heaven. Fairies come to the human world to experience hardships, and people can't bear to see them suffer, so they send them home."

"I was still young back then, and I would always play here when I had nothing to do, hoping to meet a fairy, but I never did."

"Until one morning I saw a dead baby under the lotus leaves. I never dared to go near this place again."

"Later, when I grew up and became more sensible, I realized that there were no fairies at all. They were just some innocent and pitiful baby girls."

Wu Meilai frowned, "But, the girl probably really came to the human world to suffer. Wouldn't it be better if she was drowned from the beginning..."

Fall into a warm embrace.

Zhou Qianling hugged her tightly and said, "No." He had heard from diners before that she was forced to drop out of junior high school, and her parents seemed to be relying on her to run a restaurant for support. In addition, she had a younger brother, so Zhou Qianling could guess that maybe her life was not going well.

"No one has the right to prevent a girl from being born. Life is the right given to humans by nature. Girls are not born to suffer. The fault lies with those who make you suffer. If anyone deserves to disappear, it should be the heartless person who disappears."

Zhou Qianling was afraid that she might have some negative thoughts, so he continued, "Only by living can you do what you want. You have hands and legs, and you can get rid of everything or everyone you don't like. As long as you're alive, that's all."

She said anxiously: "I will take you away. I can take you away now."

The nights are quiet, especially the winter nights.

Zhou Qianling tightened his arms again.

After a while, a soft laugh came to my ears.

Wu Meilai stroked her back with her hand, slowly sliding it to her shoulder blades, and hugged her back.

"Thank you, I'm fine, just a little depressed today."

Her family killed a chicken at noon. When they were having dinner in the evening, her brother threw the cleaned chicken bones into her bowl. Wu Mei came to pick them up and threw them back. Her brother dodged and bumped into the wall with a bang. Then her father immediately took off his shoes and hit her in the face.

Her mother glanced at her, probably thinking it was nothing serious, and scolded her, then touched the back of her brother's head to comfort him.

Wu Meilai was used to such days and had long been accustomed to it, but sometimes she still felt bored. Whenever this happened, she would come and sit by the lotus pond.

She never thought that such a life was abnormal. After all, most women in the village were like this.

She never thought of escaping.

Just like Zhou Qianling said, she clearly has hands and legs...what exactly stopped her?

"Will you really take me away?" she asked softly.

"Yes, I can. We can leave now." Zhou Qianling immediately took out his cell phone to call a taxi, but Wu Mei came to hold him down.

When Wu Meilai saw how sincere she was, she smiled even more happily.

In fact, she resisted when she heard her say "take you away." This phrase is often used in film and television plots where men invite women to elope. She and Zhou Qianling are both women, and for a moment, she had the illusion that Zhou Qianling wanted to elope with her.

However, after putting aside this incredible idea, Wu Meilai felt relieved and shocked. It was the feeling of having someone supporting her and having a way out.

She thought that Zhou Qianling might be a good friend.

"If necessary, I will leave on my own."
